James Arnold Matthews
Mr. James Arnold Matthews, 79, born Jan. 5, 1927, in Port Neches to Emily Griffith and Floyd Matthews, passed away Oct. 14, 2006, in Huntsville. Arnold loved the outdoors, he loved his family dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris Maples Matthews.
Arnold is survived by daughters, Frieda Holland and husband, Chad, and Dianne King and husband, Larry; sons, James R. Matthews and wife, Trish, and John Maples and wife, Diane, and Arch Maples and wife, Winkie; grandchildren, Mandie LeAnn Matthews, Ashly Holland, Larry King Jr. and wife, Kay, David Lance King, Lori Maples, Staci Prelli and husband, Joey, Jodi Maples, Jay Maples and wife, Leslie, and Jarod Maples; great-grandchildren, Kaci Taylor King, Kori Nicole King, Jacey Gail Maples, Jorey Rose Maples, Zoey Melody Prelli and Rori Madison Prelli.
Arnold is also survived by sisters, Cecile Edwards, Nola Mae Reneau and husband, J.W., and Ellen Lightfoot and husband, Leo; brother, Floyd C. Matthews and wife, Sue; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Matthews was Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Huntsville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 18, 2006, at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Reagan Cooksey officiating. Interment will follow at Latexo Cemetery in Latexo at 3 p.m.

Bessie Holleman Craig
Funeral Services for Bess Holleman Craig, 97, are set for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the Huntsville Funeral Home.

Harvey John Stimmler, 95 of New Waverly, Texas passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Hill Cemetery in New Waverly. Visitation will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Huntsville Funeral Home.

Ray Dillon Campbell
Ray Dillon Campbell, 74, born in Thornton, Texas, March 8, 1932, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, Oct. 1, 2006. A 1951 graduate of Huntsville Senior High School, he played football, basketball, track and was a senior cheerleader. He joined the US Army in 1953, serving in the 25th Infantry Division in Korea, earning Korean Service, United Nations Service and National Defense Service medals. Honorably discharged in 1961 as a Sergeant, in 2002, he was honored by the Veterans of Foreign War. He worked as an insulator along the Houston Ship Channel, retiring in 1997 after 41 years. A longtime resident of Houston, he was active at Sagemont Baptist Church and the Retirees Old Timers club. He is preceded in death by wife of 34 years Margaret Hardwick Campbell; parents John Milton and Lena Wood Campbell; and siblings Sadie Brown, Alyne Cole and Wiley L. Campbell. He is survived by son Dwayne D. Campbell, Houston; daughters Dawn Renee Campbell of California, Debe Campbell-Alvidrez of Arizona and sister-in-law Martha Hardwick McCarthy of Texas City. Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, Forest Park East Chapel. Glen Henry ‘Red’ Morton
Glen “Red” Morton, of Richards, passed away on Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, in Navasota. He was 62 years old. Glen was born to Gene and Mary Morton on Sept. 12, 1944, in San Antonio at Kelly AFB.
Active throughout his life, Glen loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Whether it was fishing, hunting, camping or traveling he enjoyed life and if you had time to listen he always had a story to share, usually something historical. He loved history, especially Civil War History.
Glen enjoyed his work. He retired from TDCJ as a Maintenance Supervisor with over 27 and a half years service. He spent six years as General Manager of the Riverside Water Supply and six more years as Maintenance Supervisor with Geo Group in Cleveland. Besides work Glen was a member of the NWTF Sam Houston Chapter and also was a Charter Member of the Westway Baptist Church.
Glen leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Carol (Kay) Morton; son William Albritton and wife Diane of Indian Trail, North Carolina; son, Robert Morton and wife Conni of Huntsville, Texas; sister, Mary Gustive and husband Jim of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren Missy Albritton, Cody Albritton, Cady Morton, Riley Morton and Cassie Macko. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins
Glen was met in Heaven by these special people that touched these families’ lives. Baby daughter, Kelly Jean Morton; parents, Gene and Mary Morton; sister, Ernestine Knaff; brother, David Q. Morton and father-in-law and friend, J.M. Harris.
Services for Glen will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at 3 p.m. at the Younger Cemetery in Silver City. Visitation will be throughout the day Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, with the family to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening at the Huntsville Funeral Home. At Glen’s request casual dress only, please no coats and ties. Pastor Tommy Haley will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Jordan, Don Costilow, Lester Beaird, Robert Earl Autery, Gerald Hightower and Bud Idom. Honorary Pallbearers are to be J.T. McBride and the Westway Baptist Church Mens Sunday School Class.

Charlie A. Neal
Charlie Arthur Neal, 84 of Huntsville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, in Memorial Hermann Hospital, The Woodlands. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Brooke Cemetery, 672 FM 980, Huntsville. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home.
Mr. Neal was born on Sept. 6, 1933 in Kirtley, Texas to Charlie Columbus and Alma Mahaley Neal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Neal on June 27, 2003.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Smith of Huntsville; 3 sons, David Neal of College Station, Charlie Neal of Houston, Gene Neal of Kingwood; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The pallbearers will be Charlie (Buddy) Neal, Gene Neal, David Neal, Jake Neal, Richard Smith and Rick Smith.
Antonia Ortiz
Antonia Ortiz was born on June 18, 1922 and passed away on November 18, 2006.
She will be remembered throughout the lives of her families. She was a very special person for everyone and will be in their hearts all of their lives. All who knew her knows she is in a better place with God. God called her. God bless Antonia Ortiz.
Antonia was preceded in death by her husband, Prospero Ortiz and son, Jorge Ortiz.
She is survived by her sons, Miguel Ortiz, Enrique Ortiz, Ricardo Ortiz, and Efren Ortiz. She is survived by her daughters, Alejandra Huerta, Maria de Jesus Jalifi, Martha Dominguez, Elodia Cisneros and Guadalupe Ortiz-Rodriguez. Children raised by Antonia Garcia are Maria Luisa Reyes, Presciliano Acosta, Gloria de Orta, Rodolfo Ortiz and Evalinda Cruz-Hernandez. She is loved by five generations and has over 50 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ricardo Ortiz, Enrique Ortiz, Jr., Ernesto Rodriguez, Jaime Rodriguez, Ismael Huerta, Jr. and David Ramirez, Antonio Garcia and Edward Ortiz.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, November 20 with the Rosary beginning at 6:00pm at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Mass will be held Tuesday, November 21 at 3:00pm at Saint Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church.

Mrs. Clara Etta Leveston Rigsby
Mrs. Clara Etta Leveston Rigsby passed away Nov. 28, 2006, in Walker County. She was born May 9, 1925, in Walker County.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rigbsy will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at 11a.m. at Unity of Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas DeBose officiating, under the direction of Williams & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pat Henry Cemetery in Dodge. Pallbearers will be Barry Tubbs, Sr., Brandon Williams, Larry Houston, Oma Johnson, III, Stevie Jenkins, Jr. and Carl Houston, Jr.
Mrs. Rigsby is survived by one son, Carl Houston, Sr. (Sandra) of Huntsville; four daughter, Ethel Massey, Joyce Martin, Hattie Johnson (Oma Jr.) and Judy Goodwell (Grover) all of Huntsville; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jeremy Brazzel
Jeremy Brazzel died tragically in an auto accident Saturday night after traveling to the Huntsville Hornet Basketball Play-Off game. He was a 2006 graduate of Huntsville and he played freshman and sophomore football on the Huntsville Hornet team. He was fun loving and known as a writer of poetry. He was also active in the Youth Childrens Church of Family Faith Church and previously worked at TDCJ and Wal-Mart.
He is survived by his mother, Sondra Hightower and step-father, Antonio Hightower; father, Standley Brazzel; sister, Alicia Vann; step-brother, Aaron Keith Hightower; maternal grandmother, Helen Ray; paternal grandmother, Wilma Lewis; and step-grandmother, Esther Mary Hightower. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Brazzel, grandfather Jimmy Turner and uncle Vick Carter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Family Faith Church with the Rev. Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery in Madisonville under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Douglas Gene Wiley
Mr. Douglas Gene Wiley, 46, of Spring passed away Feb. 21, 2007, in Harris County and was born Sept. 18, 1960, in Walker County.
A wake service will be held tonight from 7 until 9 p.m. at Truevine M.B. Church, 27307 Oak, Spring. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1 p.m. from Truevine M.B. Church, with the Rev. Bobby Rigsby, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Peaceful Rest Cemetery.
Billy Wiley Jr., Reginald Wile, Jr., Blake Wiley, Will Wiley, Jason Wiley, Montrick Wiley, Kevin Wiley and Tony Dorsey Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Douglas was a member of True Holiness C.O.G.I.C. and was known for his great smile.
Douglas is survived by his grandmother, Ella Mae Rodgers; mother, Connie L. Wiley both of Spring; five brothers, Billy Wiley, Wilbert Wiley, Tony Wiley and Reginald Wiley, all of Spring, and Bobby Wiley of Tomball; three sisters, Mae Helen Matson and Bridgette J. Wiley, both of Houston; LaJuana F. Wiley of Spring; two uncles, Fritz Jones of Spring; and James Wiley of Houston; three aunts, Joyce Thomas and Margaret Hill, both of Huntsville, Freddie Mae Brown of Houston; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends.
Dorothy Burgess
Dorothy Burgess, a beautiful lady who truly loved the Lord, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Longview, Texas at the Good Shepherd Medical Center. Her character and personality can be found in Proverbs 31:10-12: “Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She will not hinder him but help him all her life.”
Mrs. Burgess was a longtime member of University Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sojourners Sunday School Department.
Survivors, whom Mrs. Burgess taught through Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths,” include her daughter Connie Robinson and husband Duane, grandson and wife, Staff Sgt. Matthew Robinson and Staff Sgt. Jenny Robinson, granddaughter, Blakely Elyse Robinson, granddaughter, Laura Leigh Read, granddaughter and husband, Lesley and Brett Swartz and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alton Burgess, her daughter, Barbara Sue McGee, and a grandson, Stephen Read.
Funeral services, under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, will be held graveside at Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery at 3 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2007, with Dr. David Becker and Dr. Richard Rogers officiating. Pallbearers will be Duane Robinson, Matthew Robinson, Brett Swartz, Andy Graves, Tim Hooks and Larry Don Graves. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Bernard Eugene Crane
Bernard Eugene Crane was born Oct. 22, 1932, in Pembroke, N.H., and joined his Lord April 3, 2007. He is survived by a brother, Arthur Crane of Raymond, N.H. and a sister, Dorothy Severance of St. Petersburg, Fla.
“Gene” moved to Riverside in 1982 and lived at Cove Marina where he had many special friends. He was a talented carpenter and a jack of all trades, but his real loves were fishing and friends.
When he became ill, many helped, but Pauline King and Barbara Farrar were Gene’s special angels when he needed them most. He will be missed by all, but not forgotten.
A private memorial service will be conducted in the community at a later date.
