Alvin Louis Aulenbacher
Beloved brother, uncle and friend Alvin Louis Aulenbacher passed away Aug. 21, 2006 at a hospice in Plano, Texas. Alvin, affectionately nicknamed “Sunshine” was born July 20, 1918 to Walter and Alma Aulenbacher in Pittsburgh, Penn. He attended public schools in Pittsburgh, maintaining a grade average that resulted in an appointment to Annapolis, however, an eye condition kept him from the academy. Alvin then enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1938 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He then drove to Houston and joined Gulf Oil Corporation, starting in the fields at Segno, Texas and ending in the corporate production office after a long and rewarding career with Gulf. His Career with Gulf was interrupted during World War II when he enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He saw action in the Mediterranean during the invasion of Italy. He was then recommended for Officer Candidate School and returned to the States. He ended his naval career as a Lieutenant, Junior Grade working as a radar installation officer on the west coast.
Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel, in 2002. In 2003 he moved to an assisted living facility in Plano where he received the loving care of his niece, Donna Barman. The family will always appreciate the love and devotion shown by Donna during his last years.
Alvin is survived by his older brother, Walter and his wife Rosolva, his younger brother Merle and wife, Carolyn and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Huntsville Funeral Home, 1215 15th Street, Huntsville, Texas between the hours of 10 and 11a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006. Funeral services will then take place immediately after at St. Thomas Catholic Church on 16th Street in Huntsville. Interment will be at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Plano Special Olympics, 2306 Lawndale, Plano, Texas 75023.

Betty L. Thrasher
Betty Lee Thrasher, 81 of Trinity, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, in Conroe. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel, 672 FM 980, Huntsville. Burial will follow at Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home.
Betty was born on May 17, 1925, in McAlester, Okla. to Clarence Perteet and Mary Littleton Perteet. She attended school in the Little White School House on the hill in Bugtussel, Okla. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Thrasher in February of 2001.
She is survived by 3 sons, George Perteet and wife Mary, Bobby Thrasher and wife Marilyn all of McAlester, Okla., Raymond Thrasher and wife Peggy of Huntsville; daughter, Christine Jones of Trinity; 3 sisters, Alene Welch, Ruby Fulkerson, Janie Arndt, all of McAlester, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Timmy R. Hicks
Timmy R. Hicks, 39 of Riverside, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at his residence. Graveside services will be held Friday, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Pioneer Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Newton of Riverside First Baptist Church officiating.
Timmy was born on Sept. 20, 1967, in Frankfurt, Germany to Samuel Lee Hicks and Marilyn Gilbert Hicks. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School and was a rancher. He worked for his brother’s company, Top Notch Home Repair for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by 5 brothers, Jeff Hicks and wife Terry of Spring, Tom Hicks and wife Debbie of Longview, Steve Hicks and wife Beverly of Riverside, Tracy Hicks and wife Kathy of Tulsa, Okla., Stacy Hicks of Copperas Cove; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Brooke Funeral Home, 672 FM 980, Huntsville is in charge of arrangements.
Patrick T. Murphy
Was Gibbs crossing guard for years
Patrick T. Murphy was born in Drumright, Okla. on March 17, 1935. Under the care of Lighthouse Hospice, he passed away peacefully Sept. 28, 2006, in Huntsville in the home he shared with his wife of 46 years, Kay.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 5019 Sam Houston Ave., Huntsville, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006. Interment of ashes will take place with full military honors at the National Cemetery in Casper, Wyo. in May, 2007.
Pat, as he was known to those close to him, was an Army veteran and patriotic through and through. He was a Gibbs Elementary crossing guard for many years who was beloved by students and parents alike. Many Huntsville Item readers will remember him for his letters to the editor on every subject imaginable.
Survivors include his wife Kay Murphy of Huntsville; daughter, Jacquie Ruth Murphy; two granddaughters and two great-grandsons all of Bozeman, Mont.; brother and sister in Casper, Wyo. and numerous other family and friends.
A moving expense fund has been established fot Kay Murphy at First State Bank in Huntsville. At Mr. Murphy’s request, donations may be made to this fund in lieu of flowers.
Betty Adams Webber
A memorial service for Betty Adams Webber, 76, of Montgomery will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. David Owens officiating. Mrs. Webber was born on Jan. 30, 1930 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away on Sept. 29, 2006 in Conroe, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody Rightmire of Conroe; sisters, Beatrice Foreman of Victoria, Frances Pinson of Victoria, and Mollie DeVries of Round Rock; brothers, Grady Ward Adams and wife Patricia of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Quannah Adams and wife Fran of Lovelady; grandchildren, Robert Rightmire III and Charles Aaron Rightmire; great grandchildren, Cole Allen Rightmire, A.J. Rightmire, Robert Allen Rightmire IV, Corly Adam Rightmire, and Savanna Rightmire. Numerous other relatives and friend also survive.

Violet 'Vi' Henson
Retired from the Dental Profession
Violet “Vi” Henson, 85, passed away on Sept. 27, 2006, in Trinity. Mrs. Henson was born Aug. 28, 1921, to Anton and Frances Bosak in Jefferson County.
Working in the dental profession, Mrs. Henson retired after serving in Dr. R. Maxwell’s office for many years. Vi was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Mrs. Henson was preceded in death by her husband, WG “Gar” Henson, and her sister, Helen Heinatz.
Loving family remaining to cherish her memory include, a daughter and her husband, Donna and Warren Tyner, and a granddaughter and her husband, Tracie and Alan Craigen. Four great-grandchildren also survive, Casey, Cheyenne, Laramie and Shawnee Craigen.
Graveside services for Mrs. Henson were held Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Cypress, Texas.

Lloyd Eugene ‘Gene’ Horner Jr.
Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Horner, Jr. was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on July 9, 1955, and departed this life on Sept. 30, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd E. Horner Sr. and Rosemary Powell Horner and brothers, Billie Jay Horner and Bobbie Joe Horner. Gene is survived by his children, Marisa Horner and Shea Horner of Huntsville and Angela Wysopek of Ohio. He is also survived by his sisters Lorraine Cool of Ohio, Patricia Brewster of Ohio, Norma Jean Beasley of Porter, Texas, Debbie Kandel of Ohio, Beverly Ashaka of Katy and brothers Lee Horner of Ohio, Chuck Horner of California, David Horner of Humble, Texas, and numerous other friends and relatives.
Gene’s love of life and people was evident in the number of friendships he maintained. His 19 year career with Silver Eagle Distributors allowed him the opportunity to meet people throughout the Greater Houston community, forming friendships which lasted a lifetime. Gene was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed may pastimes including softball, golf, hunting and coaching. One of his greatest joys was watching NASCAR races. A highlight of his life was having the experience of driving a NASCAR racecar at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5019 Sam Houston Ave., Huntsville.

Ray Dillon Campbell
Ray Dillon Campbell, 74, born in Thornton, Texas, March 8, 1932, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, Oct. 1, 2006. A 1951 graduate of Huntsville Senior High School, he played football, basketball, track and was a senior cheerleader. He joined the US Army in 1953, serving in the 25th Infantry Division in Korea, earning Korean Service, United Nations Service and National Defense Service medals. Honorably discharged in 1961 as a Sergeant, in 2002, he was honored by the Veterans of Foreign War. He worked as an insulator along the Houston Ship Channel, retiring in 1997 after 41 years. A longtime resident of Houston, he was active at Sagemont Baptist Church and the Retirees Old Timers club. He is preceded in death by wife of 34 years Margaret Hardwick Campbell; parents John Milton and Lena Wood Campbell; and siblings Sadie Brown, Alyne Cole and Wiley L. Campbell. He is survived by son Dwayne D. Campbell, Houston; daughters Dawn Renee Campbell of California, Debe Campbell-Alvidrez of Arizona and sister-in-law Martha Hardwick McCarthy of Texas City. Family visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006 at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, Forest Park East Chapel. Funeral Services for Bess Holleman Craig, 97, are set for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. Mae Delle Wilson
Mae Delle Wilson passed away Oct. 3, 2006 in Houston. She was born on April 2, 1915 in Possum Walk, Texas to James Andrew and Celia Pool Jackson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Weldon D. Wilson and grandson, Jeffrey Johnstone. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wilson. The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home with services at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Bath Cemetery, FM 1374, Huntsville.
Ruise Vern McCowan
Ruise Vern McCowan, 78 of New Waverly, was born June 26, 1928, and passed away Oct. 6, 2006. Funeral services will be held at Jasper Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. under the direction of Williams and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Jasper Memorial Garden. Rev. Major James will officiate. Mrs. McCowan was a retired nurse and member of Jasper Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. McCowan is survived by sons John McCowan, Jackie McCowan, both of New Waverly, son J.D. McCowan and daughter Annie Hargrove, both of Colorado Springs, Co. and sister Ethel Ned of New Waverly.
Mrs. Florene Strange
Mrs. Florene Stange, age 83, of Kennard, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006, at her residence in Kennard. Mrs. Strange was born June 22, 1923, in Trinity County and she had lived in Kennard for the past 12 years. She was retired having owned and operated a day care and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Kennard.
Survivors include her four children, Sherry Stubblefield and husband, Jeff, of Kennard; Kenneth Strange and wife, Melinda, of Huntsville; Michael Strange and wife, Jeanne, of Katy; Richard Strange and wife, Melody, of Caldwell. Mrs. Strange has 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by husband, Elig Strange in 1995.
Funeral services for Mrs. Florene Strange will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Fellowship Church with Rev. Ottis Byers, Rev. Randy Shipman and Rev. Carroll Bryant officiating. Graveside funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Brook Cemetery in Huntsville.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

William Boyle Maguire
William Boyle Maguire was born on Feb. 25, 1929, and passed away on Oct. 13, 2006, in Huntsville. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Kevin, Kathy, Patty, Jeffrey and Beverly’s three children; brothers, Thomas and Glennon; sister, Ellen; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret; brother, Edward; and sisters, Alice and Margaret.
Bill served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He moved from California to Texas in 1970 to start Refractory Metals in Houston. In 1975 he re-organized the company to form Refractory Welding and Fabrication, Inc., which he later sold to the English in 1979.
Special Metals in Conroe was his last business venture before fulfilling a dream to be a gentleman farmer. To fulfill that dream, Bill and Beverly moved to Windy Acres in Donie, Texas, in October 1998. Bill came out of retirement to take the Postmaster Relief position in Donie for a couple of years. In March 2006 they moved to Huntsville.
