Phyllis D. Maples, 63, of Huntsville, Texas passed away at her residence, Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel, 672 FM 980 in Huntsville. Burial will take place in Oak Hills Cemetery in Orland, Maine.
Mrs. Maples was born on June 16, 1942 in Bar Harbor, Maine to Philip Dorr and Arlene (Martin) Dorr. She attended schools in Bar Harbor, Maine and graduated from Bar Harbor High School. She married Charles Maples on Aug. 19, 1984 in Huntsville. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Louis Conley.
She is survived by her husband Charles Maples; 2 daughters, Melanie Luttman and husband Ronald, Kirsten Little and husband Michael, all of Atoka, Tenn.; son, Benjamin Wade of Henderson, Texas; sister, Diane Gray and husband Arnold of East Orland, Maine; grandchildren, Tania, Matthew and Caitlyn Luttman, Greg and Gabriela Little; stepdaughters, Karen Ahart and husband Mark, Linda Smith and husband John; stepgrandchildren, Greg and Jennifer Lyons, Samuel (AJ) Smith and James Smith.

Charley Wyse White
Loving father and Papaw
Charley Wyse White, 97, passed away March 7, 2006, in Huntsville, Texas. Mr. White was born Jan. 3, 1909, to Isabell Bittick White and George Wyse White in Glendale, Texas. Mr. White was a farmer in Glendale until 1950 when he moved his family to Channelview, Texas. He worked in the construction industry until his retirement. He was a charter member of Second Baptist Church in Channelview.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maude Johnson White; his sister, Peg Repp; and brothers, Dick White and Cecil White. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George and Delphia White of Channelview; daughter and son-in-law Patsy and John Fortner of Huntsville; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Al Goodwin of Huntsville; granddaughters and husbands, Tammy and Kyle Enloe, Patty Ann and Keith Gilmore, Elyse and Reagan Williams, Faylinn and C.M. Habermehl, Gayla and Scott Cook; grandsons and wives, Charles and Kathy Goodwin; Douglas and Leslie Goodwin, John Daniel and Andrea Fortner. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kelsie Enloe, Casey Enloe, Amber Gilmore, Jene Gilmore, Andrea Gilmore, Jessie Goodwin, Marshall Goodwin, Marie Goodwin, Cameron Goodwin, Chandler Goodwin, Alexander Williams, Max Williams, Mitchell Habermehl, Addison Habermehl, Parker Habermehl, Tyler Habermehl, Shayne Cook, Levi Cook, Kenley Cook, Amara Cook, Luke Fortner and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Glendale Baptist Church with Wade Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons and grandsons-in-law. The family will receive visitors Friday, March 10th, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
Louis N. Crippen
Louis N. Crippen, 89, of Elkins Lake, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10th at Elkins Lake Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Hugghins officiating.

Gene Warzecha
Deacon Eugene “Gene” Dennis Warzecha died Friday, March 10, 2006, in Houston. He was born March 24, 1948, in Yorktown, Texas, to Edward and Lillian Tam Warzecha. He grew up in Yorktown, moved to San Antonio for several years before returning to Yorktown to raise his children.
Gene was employed as a contract administrator for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville. He was ordained to the order of permanent deacon by Bishop Fellhauer of Victoria in July 2001. Besides his dedication to his wife, family and his parish, he also served as a prison chaplain at the Estelle Unit, the Huntsville Unit, and the Polunsky Unit. Gene recently professed to the Secular Order of the Society of Saint Francis and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Gene was survived by his wife, Eloise Boldt Warzecha of Huntsville; daughter, Nancy Warzecha of Rickville, Md.; son, Joseph Warzecha and Vanessa of San Antonio; stepson, John Janacek and Jessica of Schulenberg; and stepdaughters, Julie Crane of Huntsville and Jennifer Penders and Tommy of Angleton. Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Irene Kace and Carol Harbeson and Drew; and two brothers, Edmond Warzecha and Kathy and Alvin Warzecha and Rosemarie, all of San Antonio. Survivors also include eight grandchildren: Madeleine and Connor Warzecha; Arik, Andrew and Anne Crane; Eric, Emily and Evan Janacek. He was looking forward to the birth of another grandchild in April.
Gene was preceded in death by his father.
Deacon Richard Lopez will lead a rosary at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2006. Father Stephen Payne and Father Ron Cloutier will concelebrate mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, after which time Gene will be returned to his hometown.
Deacon Tony Warzecha will lead the rosary in Yorktown at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2006. Mass of the resurrection will be concelebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. March 14, 2006, with Father Frank Lenz, Father Gabriel Mason and Father Donald Hayden officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Office of Correctional Ministries at 215 East 10th St. in Houston, Texas 77008 or the Holy Cross Catholic Church Building Fund in Yorktown, Texas 78164.

David Eugene Jones
David Eugene Jones, 47, of Trinity, passed away on March 11, 2006, in Trinity. Mr. Jones was born April 15, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Trinity Funeral Home with Rev. Guy Hargrave officiating.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Lisa Varley Jones, of Trinity; daughter April Pierce, and husband Jason; daughter Laura Parker, and husband Chris; daughter Jennifer Steelman; son Billy Steelman; grandchildren Andrew Pierce and Alana Parker; mother Wanda Patterson, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Ruth K. Chandler was born July 10, 1920 and passed away June 29, 2006. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 2, 2006 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Adell Miller will be on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Little Bethel Holiness Church at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state beginning at 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Liberty Primitive Cemetery, in Point Blank, Texas. Rev. Charles McGowen will officiate the services.

Levi David Thompson was born Feb. 29, 1924 and passed away April 26, 2006. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Carriarean Parker-Ard leaves to cherish her memory, 3 sons, Mr. Michael Arps, Mr. Mario Arps, both of Los Angeles, Calif, and Mr. James Curtis Arps of Pearland; one daughter, Ms. Cherrel Arps also of Pearland; 2 brothers, Mr. Elmer Hall of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mr. Curtis Montgomery of Augusta, Texas; 2 sisters, Mrs. Florarean Overshown, and Mrs. Vivian Hall-Redd both of Crockett; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

Mrs. Jessie Ada Kelley Porter
Mrs. Jessie Ada Kelley Porter, 89, of Walker County passed away April 24, 2006 in Harris County. She was born March 17, 1917 in Walker County. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, under the direction of Williams and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Horace Kelley Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roland Blossom, Yumari Jackson, Imari Jackson, Shawn Ashlee, RaShaad Larry, Irelant Jackson Jr., Zale Jenkins, Randall Fisher, Joseph Wharton and Mark Williams.
Mrs. Porter retired from Sam Houston State University after many years of dedicated service. She was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Lonnie Porter III and wife Paula of Corpus Christi; two daughters, Alice Porter-Taplin and husband Eddie and Mary Porter, both of Houston; one sister, Willie Lee Fuller of Los Angeles, Calif.; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Charles Gray Outlaw
Charles Gray Outlaw was born Nov. 28, 1949 to Ernest B. and Estelle (Taylor) Outlaw in Dothan, Ala. and passed away June 27, 2006 after a lengthy battle with diabetes. He was a fun person to be around. He joined the US Army in 1967 after getting his mother to sign for him to join. He loved his dog “Spook” and he was a “tinker” that especially enjoyed working on what ever he had in his shop at the time.
He is survived by his mother Estelle Blair, sister Olene and husband Curtis Loving, all of Huntsville, wife Connie Outlaw of Aurora, Colo., daughters Jamie Outlaw and Charlene Outlaw of Georgia and special friend Linda Novark.
Services will be held Friday June 30, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Outlaw will lie in state throughout the day Thursday at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Ruth King Chandler
Retired Elementary School Teacher
Ruth King Chandler, 85, completed her earthly journey June 29, 2006 and has gone to the Lord. Ruth was born July 10, 1920, in Lott, Texas to James and Artie King and passed away June 29, 2006. She graduated from Rosebud High School (Falls County, Texas).
Ruth gained her desire to pursue a career in Home Economics during her high school experiences. She began her college education at South West State Teachers College and transferred to Sam Houston State Teachers College where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics (1950) and later a Masters of Arts Degree in Elementary Education (1959).
She began her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher at Buffalo High School. Ruth especially loved teaching young children and treasured their daily hugs and kisses. She had fond memories of teaching children to read and spell their first words. Ruth cherished the stories her students had shared with her, and always hoped to plant seeds of inspiration in the hearts and minds of her students. Ruth retired from teaching in 1980 after teaching for 33 years (22 of which were with Huntsville Independent School District).
Ruth loved her Lord and was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school, helped with Vacation Bible School, and most recently served with the Hospital Ministry making and providing pillow corsages for women in the hospital. She was active in the University Women of Sam Houston State University, and in 1995 was selected as Outstanding Alumnus of the Home Economics Program. She was also a member of the local chapter of AARP, Walker County Retired Teachers, and several other organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Marion King and Artie King and brother, Cleve King. Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years (married December 13, 1941), J.A. Chandler; daughter Judy Chandler Cole and husband King Kennon Cole of Madisonville; son James King Chandler and wife Joey Brand Chandler of Huntsville; grandchildren Jeffrey Fleming and wife Jane-Ann of Spring, Jacob Chandler and wife Lucrecia of Huntsville, Cody Chandler and wife Andrea of Hinesville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Chandler Elizabeth Fleming and Sarah Catherine Fleming of Spring; sister Naomi King Donalson; and brother Bobby Goble and wife Betty.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2006 at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Roland Archer, 52, will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, in New Waverly, Texas, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery, in Evergreen, Texas. The Rev. J.B. Houston will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in the Cox Funeral Home Chapel.
Archer was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Archer; one son, Lawrence Archer; grandmother, Sylvia B. McGowan; and grandfather, Sidney F. Reece.
Archer is survived by his mother, Essie (Maud) Frazier; two sons, Raru A. Alexander of Houston and Maud Archer of Stockton, Calif.; four daughters, Alexandria Alcorn, Nico Jones and Audrey Hedspetch, all of Houston and Robbyn Archer of Stockton, Calif., two brothers, Robert A. Archer and Reginald A. Archer, both of Huntsville; one sister, Lawan Archer of Houston; grandmother, Rosie Reece of New Waverly; great aunt, Celevia Reece of New Waverly; a special friend, Robinette Regulus of Trinity; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Benjamin L. Shorter
Benjamin Leon Shorter, 26 of Huntsville, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006 in Houston. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Benjamin was born on Jan. 14, 1980 in Huntsville to Benjamin Lee Shorter and Ruby Joyce Harrison. He graduated from Huntsville High School and Texas State Technical College in Waco. He worked for the Texas Department of Corrections for 5 years.
He is survived by his wife, Matrina Shorter; son, Benjamin L. Shorter, Jr.; brother, Eddie Ray Harrison; grandmother, Nana; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
