James Earnest Leonard

James Earnest Leonard, 70, of Huntsville, passed away Oct. 5, 2004 in Huntsville. He was born Feb. 18, 1934 in Richards.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodger Garbs officiating. Burial will be at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

Mr. Leonard will lie in state throughout the day today, Oct. 8, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

He is survived by sons, Michael Leonard of Alvin, James Dean Leonard of Pearland, Darrell Leonard of Huntsville, Ernest Lee Leonard of Huntsville and Pat Leonard of Huntsville; daughters, Carol Ann Shanks of Pearland and Lisa Kaye Oldham of Huntsville; sister, Annie Mae Johnson of Huntsville; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Leonard.

Memorial donations may be sent to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund at 700 Highway 30 East, Huntsville, Texas 77320.

Glenna Marie Anderson Harrell

Glenna Marie Anderson Harrell, born July 12, 1940, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at the age of 64. She is survived by her husband, William R. "Billy" Harrell; daughters, Mona Peck and Ginger Harrell; granddaughters, Katie and Brianna Smith; son-in-law, Michael Peck; sisters, Lela Bullington, Helen Northam, Adalene Rich, Geneva Phillips and Cora Jo Tirado; brother, Roger Anderson; brother in-law, Bobby Harrell; sisters-in-law, Nelda Harrell and Francis Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenna was born and raised in Lamar County, Texas, attended East Lamar Schools for eleven and one-half years, and graduated from Paris High School. She and her husband, Billy, have been married for 47 years. She worked to help him as he continued his education, and then she attained a BA degree in Home Economics from Sam Houston State University.

Glenna was a devoted wife and mother. Her life centered around her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Huntsville. She was active in the Miss Texas Scholarship Organization and enjoyed square dancing until arthritis prevented her from participating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Anderson; sister, Lucille Nash and brothers, Elmer Anderson, Pat Anderson and Jesse Anderson.

Friends are invited to attend visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Oct. 7, 2004, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel and will be officiated by Carrol Williams of First Baptist Church. Interment is to follow at Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances in honor of Glenna be donated to the Arthritis Foundation.

Emilia 'Millie' R. Vetuski Bass

Emilia "Millie" R. Vetuski Bass, born July 27, 1929, passed away Dec. 15, 2004.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 16, at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at St. Thomas Catholic Church under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Midway Cemetery in Midway, Texas.

Myrtle Louise Clements Herolz

Retired with husband Robert in Willis

Myrtle Louise Clements Herolz, 84, passed away Nov. 5, 2004, in Huntsville. She is preceded in death by her brother A.D. Clements; her husband, Robert A. Herolz Sr.; and her son, Louis Anthony George.

She leaves to mourn, her sister, Marjorie Clements Favela of Houston; her brother Jack R. Clements and sister-in-law, Carol M. Clements of Huntsville; nieces, Danna Leigh Smith and family of Pueblo, Colo., Charlotte Marie Miller and family of Huntsville; and a nephew, Richard Alan Clements and family of Houston.

Myrtle Louise Clements Herolz was born in West Columbia, Texas, on June 18, 1920, and reared in East Texas near Weldon. In her early adult life, she married Louis G. George of Beaumont and they had a son, Louis Anthony.

She began her career in retail shortly thereafter and became a buyer for Joskies and fulfilled her lifelong dream in retailing. She met and married Robert A. Herolz in 1971 and moved to Willis on Lake Conroe, where they enjoyed their retirement in fishing and gardening.

Services of remembrance will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in the family chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Huntsville. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Weldon Cemetery.

Carl Gaylord Farris

Former city employee

Carl Gaylord Farris went to be with the Lord November 9, 2004. Known as Gay by family and friends, he was a life long resident of Walker County, and was born on July 4, 1932 in the West Sandy Community of Walker County. He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Marie; father, Emmett and mother, Edna Farris all of West Sandy Community. Gay graduated from Huntsville High School in 1949, and Sam Houston State College, and served honorably in the National Guard. He was a member of the Farris Chapel United Methodist Church and retired from the City of Huntsville. He is survived by three sisters, Doris Jean Turner of Huntsville, Della Perle Robinson of Huntsville and Anna Merle Wells and husband, James of Huntsville. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold Farris and wife, Nancy of Victoria, Texas and William L. Farris and wife, Helyn of Eagle Lake, Texas. Nieces and nephews include Carlton Farris and wife, Dena; Karen Crim and husband, Craig of Victoria, Texas; Candace Dixon and husband, Dale of Huntsville, Texas; Melody and Michael Grigar of Eagle Lake, Texas; William R. Farris and wife, Carolina of Dallas, Texas; Gary Robinson and wife, Jean Ann of Huntsville; Donna Jean Barron and husband, Earnest of Huntsville; David Turner and wife, Jodia of Sugar Hill, Georgia; Emmett Turner of Huntsville; Michael Wells and wife, Debbie of Montgomery, Texas; Bobby Wells and wife, Sandra of Huntsville; Larry Wells and wife, Celeste of Huntsville and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Farris will lie in state throughout the day on Thursday at the Huntsville Funeral Home. Family will receive friends and guests from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Reagan to officiate. Burial will be at the Farris Cemetery under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home.

Emilia Rosa Caletka

Emilia Rosa Caletka was born July 27, 1929 in Schulenburg, Texas to Frank and Mary (Jelinek) Caletka and passed away Dec. 15, 2004 in Huntsville, Texas. She graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Texas. After graduation, she moved to Houston and began working at Sears where she started as a PBX operator, moving and retiring with the Personnel Department. Later she began a 10-year career with Wal-Mart in Houston. She was a life long member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Galena Park, Texas and was also a member of OES Rosewyn Chapter 927.

Survivors include son, Walter Vetuski of Houston; daughter and husband, Adonna and Albert Goodwin of Huntsville; son, Paul Vetuski of LaPorte; daughter and husband, Denise and Mark Reeves of Houston; four grandchildren, Jason Goodwin and wife, Michelle, Holley Rendon and husband, Victor, Amy Reeves and Lisa Reeves; five great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Caletka of Houston; brother and wife, Charlie and Gertie Caletka of Alexandria, La.; brother, Laddie Caletka of Houston and sister, Lillian Nesmith of Houston along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, Felix Woodrow Vetuski and Lee Bass.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The Mass is being held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 17, 2004, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with interment to follow at Midway Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Micah Sims

Micah Sims was born in Huntsville, Texas on Nov. 20, 1984. He was the beloved son of Kelly and Debra (Botard) Sims and passed away Dec. 29, 2004.

He was a student at Texas A&M University with an English major. His hobby was music, and he was a singer songwriter. Micah was a longtime member of Elkins Lake Baptist Church.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Elkins Lake Baptist Church with Dr. Kenneth Hugghins officiating. Interment will follow at Black Jack Cemetery under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday night, Dec. 31, 2004, at the funeral home.

Micah was preceded in death by his grandfather Roy A. Botard in February 2002.

He is survived by his parents Kelly and Debra Sims; brothers Geren Seth Sims and Luke Carson Sims; grandmothers, Mary Jo Botard and Minta Sue Carter; grandfather, James Henry Sims; uncle and aunt, Roy and Kelly Botard Jr.; aunt and uncle, Vanita and Darrell Smith; aunt and uncle, Jamie and Trey Howse and uncle Kent Sims; along with cousins, Jennifer Wilkerson, Jessica Kirkland, William Howse, Holly Botard, Whitney Botard, Trey Botard, Darrell Johns and Debra Johns and many friends.

Memories of Micah will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him. His joy of living was evident through his big smile and sense of humor. Micah truly loved his family, friends and music.

John Rayborn Davis

John Rayborn Davis, 82, went to be with his Lord on Jan. 5, 2005.

Born the youngest of nine children in Snyder, Okla., he moved to Houston where he worked for Tommie Vaughn Ford for 38 years before retiring and moving to Huntsville.

A devoted Christian who deeply loved his children and grandchildren, he was a "true Texas cowboy" who loved horses and rodeo. He was a longtime member of the Texas Range Riders, performing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Huntsville Prison Rodeo and many others throughout Texas. One of his favorite memories was riding on the Old Spanish Trail for 28 consecutive years with his friend, the late J.K. Caldwell.

Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Elmyra Davis, he is survived by his son, David Davis and wife, Sharon; his daughter, Darla Wilkerson and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Coy Davis and wife, Kim, Heather Haude, Trenton Rayborn Spaulding, Charisse Spaulding and fiance, Chris Conover, Kay Martin and husband, Matt and Kelly Wilkerson; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Fern Scott and husband, J.R.; numerous nieces and nephews and fellow cowboy and longtime friend, Johnnie Fisher.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 7, 2005, at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Lone Star Cowboy Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 714, Montgomery, Texas 77356.

Marjorie H. Golden

Mrs. Marjorie H. Golden, 81, formerly of Huntsville, died on Jan. 12, 2005 in Sugar Land, Texas.

She was born June 26, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., to Lee and Ahtie McVey.

Mrs. Golden is survived by her son, Bruce Golden and wife, Alma; son, Michael Golden; daughter-in-law, Christine Golden; son, Barry Golden and wife, Mary Lynn; grandchildren and their families, Mike Golden, Matt Davis, Barbara Sparks, David Davis and Daniel Davis.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earnest A. Golden; her parents and her step-father, Myrle R. Hammond.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel. She will lie in state throughout the day today, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening.

Johnny Jordan

Johnny Jordan, 53, passed away suddenly on Jan. 10, 2005, in Louisiana.

Mr. Jordan is preceded in death by his father, W.H. Buck Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jordan; sons, Douglas Jordan, Jason Jordan, Tommy Jordan and Paul Legler; daughter, Paula Keane and Audra Legler; granddaughters, Amber Jordan, Brently Jordan, Stephanie Wilson, Tori Keane, Shelby Sandel, Katherine Pena and Brittney Hamby; grandsons, Colton Brooks, Gerry Coker, Chris Coker, Steven Montgomery, Clay Lunsford, Dustin Lunsford and Matthew Keane; brother, Michael Jordan; sister, Jeanette Benge; mother, Margaret Jordan and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at Dodge Baptist Church under the direction of Huntsville Funeral Home. Burial followed at Dodge Cemetery.

Clifford W. Aston

Member of the Texas State Rife Association

Clifford Weldon Aston, 77, of St. Charles, Ill., formerly of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7,2006 at his daughter’s home in St. Charles. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home, 672 FM 980, Huntsville.

Mr. Aston was born July 18, 1928 in Wichita Falls to Fred Gerald and Nina (Houston) Aston. He was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), NRA and the (TSA) Texas State Rifle Association.

He is survived by his daughter, Diana (Scott) Moore of St. Charles, step-daughter, Jackie (Joe Breaux) DiNanno of Cypress, Texas, a sister, Freida (Wallace) Ryle and a brother William (Cathy) Aston, both of Wichita Falls.

William Calvin Russell

Loved fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking

William Calvin Russell, 81, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006. He was born in Cathay, Okla. to Howard and Edna Russell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Alice Russell, and their son David and wife Pat Russell, daughter, Daris and husband Norman Horn, grandchildren Stephen and wife Crissy Heering, Charles Heering and Jason and wife Jennifer Russell and great-grandchildren Travis, Tyler and Skyler, brother Cecil and wife Doris Russell, sisters Wanda and husband Dick James, Wanell Albaugh, Wilma Shaw, Willene Douglas and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family Andy, Karen, Heather and Sara Pustejovsky and many wonderful friends.

After graduating from Quinton High School in Quinton, Okla., he moved to Tulsa, Okla. where he attended Spartan Business College before joining Carter Oil Company as a mail clerk in September 1941. During World War II he served honorably in the Army Air Corps (later known as the Air Force) from 1943 until he was honorably discharged as a T3 Sergeant on Feb. 13, 1946. He rejoined Carter Oil Company and attended night school at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. and was transferred to Houston, Texas with Humble Oil & Refining Company on Sept. 1, 1961. He continued his studies by attending night classes at the University of Houston. He retired after 40 years of service as Senior Accountant of the Headquarters Division of Exxon, U.S.A. in 1982. He and his wife then moved to their home on Lake Livingston outside Trinity, Texas.

During his life he devoted many hours to the Boy Scouts of America, Rotary Club of Trinity, served as Treasurer of 1st United Methodist Church of Trinity, served on the Trinity Hospital Board and held numerous positions in a local square dance club (Lake Livingston Levi’s and Lace), district (Sam Houston Square and Round Dance Association) and state level of the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers. Besides his love of fishing with his wife and grandchildren, hunting, golfing, woodworking and his church, his favorite enjoyment was his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at the 1st United Methodist Church in Trinity, Texas. The Rev. James White and Associate Everett McCollum will officiate. Pallbearers will be Fred Bouse, Joe Hollis, Bob Mead, Floyd Simpson, J.W, Thomas and Curtis Young. Graveside services will be held immediately following the church service at Brooke Cemetery, 672 FM 980. Friends are invited to join the family for lunch at the 1st United Methodist Church following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the charity of one’s choice.
