Minnie Hunter
Services for Minnie Loyette Hunter, 85, Malakoff, were held Jan. 29, 2005, at the First Assembly of God Church under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Homes in Malakoff.
Hunter was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Payne Springs to the late Franklin D. Griffith and Lillie Hull, and died Jan. 26, 2005, in the West Place Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dugan Hunter in 2001; her parents; and granddaughter, Darinda Rogers.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Shannon Bagwell, Payne Springs; Valdean Davis, Fort Worth; Jo Hennesse, Malakoff; and Haven Cox, Trinidad; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Christopher Cox, Chip Souza, Jarod Souza, Jay Hansard, Tim Sabo and David Richard.
Kendall Elwood Gordon
Services were held for Kendall Elwood Gordon, 70, Mabank, Dec. 28, 2004, at Eubank Cedar Creek, with the Rev. Kenneth Hensley and the Rev. Bobby Sapp officiating.
Interment followed in Prairieville Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
Gordon was born Sep. 21, 1934, in Whitehall. He passed away Dec. 24, 2004, in Mabank.
He was a graduate of Mabank High School and from North Texas State University in Denton. He was a computer programmer/system analyst and completed extensive computer seminars while in the U.S. Air Force.
After retirement he worked for the San Antonio City Water Board and Region 10 Education Service Center, TI, EDS and in the metroplex.
Gordon was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in which he served 20 years. He earned the National Defense Medal and Missile Badge.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wesley Gordon, and by his mother, Mabel Cleo (Jones) Gordon.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Gordon of Prairieville; three sons, David Alan Gordon and wife Lisa of Arlington, Leland Charles Gordon and Chad Ostrom of Austin, and Glenn Evan Gordon and wife Emily of Arlington; two daughters, Laura Lee Kelson and husband Ron of Prairieville, and Ann Marie Davis and husband Mike of Greenville; six grandchildren, Eric, Sara, Evan and Adam Gordon, and Timothy and Christopher Keele; brother, Ronald Gordon and wife Lucy of Columbia, S.C.; niece and nephew, Ronald Gordon and Margaret Gordon.
Pallbearers were Timothy Keele, Christopher Keele, Homer Thomas, Howard Jones, Clifford Jones Jr. and Eric Gordon.
Misti Hill
Services of remembrance were held for Misti Diane Hill, 21, of Kemp, Jan. 2, 2005, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Rev. Dub Henry officiating. Interment followed at Pyle Prairie cemetery in Kaufman County.
She was born in Dallas April 27, 1983, and died at her home Dec. 30, 2004.
Survivors include her parents, Roger and Michele Bynum of Kemp; brothers Jason Hill and William Bynum, both of Kemp; sisters Jessica Hill and Margie Bridges, both of Kemp; grandparents Doug and Ellen Hines of Dallas, and Pat Bynum of Carrollton; great-grandmother Juanita Reese of Denton; uncles Michael and Chris Hines, both of Dallas; great uncle Lyden Reese of Dallas; aunt Jane Tune of Carrollton; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Patty Smoucha
Services for Patty Jo Smoucha, 55, of Mabank were held Dec. 31, 2004, at Cathedral of Life Church in Seagoville under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 26, 1949, in Akron, Ohio, and died Dec. 21, 2004, in Athens.
She was a property manager with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a pet lover. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Rowe, and mother, Doris Winchester.
She is survived by her husband, James; daughters Tiffany Fisher and Summerly Aguirre, both of Dallas; grandchildren Justin and Ryan Haynes, Corsicana Fisher, Dana, Diego, Javier and Alejandro Aguirre of Dallas; mother and father-in-law Florence and Joseph Smoucha and extended family of Chicago.
Avis Thomas
Services of remembrance were held for Avis Wisdom Thomas, 84, of Kemp, at Elm Grove Church in Van Zandt County, north of Mabank, Dec. 30, 2004, with Pastor Jim Leach officiating. Interment followed in the Elm Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
She was born in the Elm Grove Community, Oct 8, 1920, the daughter of Edward James and Carrie (Killin) Wisdom, and died Dec. 27, 2004, in Kaufman.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Mabank. Mrs. Thomas attended Elm Grove Church as a child, until marrying Ophir Lee Thomas Sr., of Kemp, Feb. 20, 1938.
In 1955, they moved to Dallas when Ophir became ill, and he preceded her in death in March, 1958. She was a homemaker, active with the community and at school, with her children and grandchildren.
In 1983, she was featured in the Kemp High School yearbook as "Most School Spirited," and she had a float in the parade. She was widowed at 37 years old, with five children. In addition to her husband, Ophir Lee Thomas Sr., a granddaughter, Donna Lynn, and an infant grandson, John Michael Shivers, preceded her in death.
Survivors include children Ophir Lee Thomas Jr. and wife Carole of Rowlett, James Quincy Thomas and wife Joanne of Dallas, Margaret Ann Shivers of Heath, Edna Louise Hoskins and husband David of Kemp, and John Charles Thomas of Flower Mound; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, James Brice Wisdom and wife Helen of the Elm Grove Community; and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were James Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Donald Thomas, David Thomas, Johnny Thomas and Chris Thomas.
Stella Rowell
Memorial services for Stella H. Rowell, 94, of Mabank were held Jan. 5, 2005, at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bob Bramblitt officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Mabank under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Lockesburg, Ark., and lived most of her life in Mabank, where she died Jan. 1, 2005.
She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Sherman A. "Bill" Sanderford, and her parents, Joseph Marion Hall and Elizabeth (Blassingame) Hall.
She is survived by her husband, John Rowell of Mabank; two daughters, Bobbie Bramblitt and husband Bob of Gun Barrel City, and Judy Rowell of Seven Points; two grandchildren, Kyle Bramblitt of Ratton, Okla., and Rhonda Mastorakis and husband Andy of Chico, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Christan and Annie Mastorakis of Chico, Calif.; a brother, Oliver Hall and family of Albuquerque, N.M.; four sisters, Calla Allison of Houston, Sue Bird and family of Spencer, Okla., Omega Rutherford and family of Gainsville, and Marian Lou White and family of Humble; nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Victor Snow
Services were held for Victor Hugh Snow, 76, Gun Barrel City, Jan. 5, 2005, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home, Wills Point, with Brother Don Simon officiating.
Burial was in Morris Chapel Cemetery in Canton.
Snow was born March 24, 1928, in Canton to Samuel Houston and Rita Mae Bishop Snow. He passed away Jan. 2, 2005, at his residence.
He grew up in Van Zandt County and attended Wills Point public schools.
He was employed by the city of Grand Prairie parks department for 22 years. He moved to Gun Barrel City four years ago. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ozie Lee Crawford, Jan. 24, 2000; two infant daughters and an infant son.
Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Anderson of Scurry, and Dorothy Wilson of Gun Barrel City; brothers, Samuel Snow and Hollis Snow, both of Tyler, and Jimmy Snow of Spokane, Wash.; sister, Edna McBride of Mesquite; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Pallbearers were Scott Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Barry Anderson, Mark Selman, Randy Gilbert and Ronnie Simon.
Kathleen Wall
Services for Kathleen Wall, 81, Kemp, were held Jan. 7, 2005, at First Baptist Church, Mabank, with the Revs. Brent Tucker and Don Teague officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Wall was born April 5, 1923, in Hattiesburg, Miss. to James T. and Ella (Tullis) Ashley, and died Jan. 2, 2005, in Athens. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Wall in 2002, and her parents.
She was a resident of Kemp for 30 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Mabank. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Country Club and the Cedar Creek Women's Club.
Survivors included her son, John R. Wall Jr. and wife Jill, Whittier, Calif.; daughter Kathy Kroening and her husband Michael, Farmers Branch; grandchildren, Anjelica, Stephen, Ashton, Melissa, Sean, Sarah and Scott; great-grandchildren, Emma, Madison and Grace; brother, Estes Ashley, Tenn.; nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Robert Kirksey
Services were held for Robert Howard Kirksey, 79, Gun Barrel City, Jan. 6, 2005, at Harbor Baptist Church with Brother John Howard officiating.
Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven Points.
Kirksey was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Crockett, and passed away Jan. 3, 2005, in Gun Barrel City.
He was an avid sportsman, and a role model to all who knew him by the Christian life that he led. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Doris; son, Robert Lynn Kirksey and wife Darlene; three sisters, Joyce Dunlap, Pat Velez and Wessie Bickerstaff; and two brothers, Glenn Trigger Kirksey and Bill Kirksey.
Edith Fern Hickman
Memorial services for Edith Fern Hickman, 79, were held Jan. 7, 2005, at Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Seven Points.
Hickman was born June 13, 1925, in Greensburg, Mo., and died Jan. 4, 2005, in Tool.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Hickman.
Survivors include her son, Robert Kaser Hickman; daughter, Susan Hickman Elmore; and five grandchildren.
Virginia Tate
Services for Virginia Lucille (Pierce) Tate, 92, Kaufman, were held Jan. 6, 2005, at Eubank Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
Tate was born April 19, 1912, in Austin and died Jan. 3, 2005, in Kaufman. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Benjamin Pierce and mother, Dora (Parks) Pierce.
She was a homemaker and lived in Kaufman for 60 years. She was a member of the Dallas Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Freda Ann (Tate) Sanders, Terrell; grandchildren, Jennifer Sanders, Lindale; and Ashley Sanders, College Station; sister, Minnie Lou Hoglin, Mabank; nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Jerry Sanders, Jimmy Gordon, Joe Allen Cantrell, Harold Cantrell, Andrew Davis and Fredrick Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Payne, Alan Hoglin and Cary Davis.
Willie E. Tuomi
Services for Willie E. Tuomi, 86, Gun Barrel City, were held Dec. 15, 2004, at Four Mile Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wm. Clayton McCord officiating. Burial was in Four Mile Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Tuomi was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Red Oak and died Dec. 13, 2004, in Mabank.
He was preceded in death by her husband, Anton Tuomi and her son, Herman Sims.
She was a homemaker and lived in Gun Barrel City for more than 35 years.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Hyta Sims, Gun Barrel City; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Burette Robinson, Greenville; other relatives and a host of friends.
