Born in Sealy, TX on July 22, 1919 he was raised in Bellville, TX where his father was the Austin County Auditor. After his father’s death, Arnold dropped out of school to join the Merchant Marine. He traveled to the Far East and Mexico; his chief passion was investing in the stock market where he teamed up with Walter Sorenson and over the years they had great success. After his brother (who had gotten to be the Austin County attorney) died, Arnold became a dedicated uncle to brother Moylan’s children. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents A.J. Laas, Sr. father, and Elsie Laas, mother; and brother Moylan.
