Ruby Moody
Services for Ruby Moody, 91, Athens formerly of Pittsburg, were held Nov. 4, 2003, at Erman Smith Funeral Home chapel in Pittsburg, with the Rev. Tim Parker officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Camp County.
Moody was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Camp County to the late Thomas Preston and Sallie May Hanson Young, and died Nov. 1, 2003, in an Athens nursing home. She preceded in death by her husband, Roy S. "Jack" Moody Sr; son, Steve Moody; brothers, Mitchell Young, Bert Young, Raymond "Pee Wee" Young and Alton Young; sisters, Florence Marshall, Myrtle Martin and Ina Pease.
She was a homemaker and member of Ebenezer Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Moody and his wife, Edith, Pittsburg; James Moody and his wife, Ida, Manvel; daughters, Mary Jordan and her husband, Buddy, Mabank; Sarah Moody, Mabank; and Shelia Powell and her husband, Glen, West Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends at the Southplace Nursing Home in Athens.
Pallbearers were Ted Young, Darryl Young, Tim Moody, Keith Moody, Jeff White, Brian Powell, David Moody, Johnny Dyer and Clay McCardell.
Ray Phillips
Services for Ray Phillips, 63, Mabank, were held Oct. 31, 2003, at First Assembly of God with the Rev. David Nottingham officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Phillips was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Dallas and died Oct. 29, 2003, in Mabank.
He was a textile wholesaler and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved motor sports and hunting. Grandchildren knew him as Pa-Paw.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Phillips, Mabank; sons, David Phillips, Rowlett; Kenneth Riggs, Garland; daughter, Brenda Ward, Plano; sister, Juanella Pearson, Kemp; five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were David Jennings, Tex Jennings, Kenny Riggs, Cameron Schacht, Jody Ward and Rodney Ward.
Virginia Wooley
Services for Virginia Wooley, Eustace, were held Nov. 3, 2003, at Roselawn Chapel. Interment followed in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
Wooley was born June 8, 1922, and died Oct. 31, 2003.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Wooley, Eustace; children, Jean Mofford and her husband, Stephen, Eustace; Carl Cordell and his wife, Dee, Barksdale; Marsha Wooley, Kerrville; Deborah Morris, Kerrville; and Lorraine Bradford, Kansas; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Cantwell, Gun Barrel City; sister-in-law, Molly Lemley.
Audrey Rogers
Services for Audrey "Lucille" Eidson Rogers, 76, Malakoff, were held Nov. 9, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Malakoff, with Bro. Robert Webb officiating. Burial was in Malakoff Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Rogers was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Jacksonville and died Nov. 6, 2003, in Malakoff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Rogers in 1997.
She was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malakoff. She worked as a stocker at Curtis Mathis Manufacturing.
Survivors include her children, Lynn Rogers, Malakoff; Tommy Rogers, Caney City; and Gayle Rogers, Payne Springs; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Steven Rogers, Justin Rogers, Charlie Rogers, Jay Rogers, Christopher Rogers, James Rogers and Johnny Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Tonja Rogers and Tamara Rogers.
Dee Morgan
Graveside services for Dee Morgan, 85, Trinidad, were held Nov. 10, 2003, in the Fox Cemetery in Kaufman County with Mike Morgan officiating. Interment was under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kemp.
Morgan was born March 31, 1918, in Kaufman County to the late William Dewey and Minnie Pearl (Marshall) Morgan and died Nov. 8, 2003, in Kerens.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Morgan, Trinidad; children, Joyce Gay, Houston; Eva Laverne, Arkansas; Waymon Dee, Houston; and Sharon, Abernathy; brothers and sisters, Hershel Morgan, Tacoma, Wash.; Ozelma Collum, Dallas; Perry Morgan, Houston; Marie Pounds, Tyler; Odis Morgan, Kemp; and Glena Jordan, Trinidad;; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Jeanetta Jones
Services Jeanetta Marie Kendall Jones, Malakoff, known as Jean to her friends and family were held Nov. 10, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Malakoff with Charles Kimble officiating. Burial was in Midlothian Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.
Jones was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Waldon, Jackson County, Ark.; and died Nov. 8, 2003, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Jones; her parents; one sister and three brothers.
She remained active with her hobbies of gardening, sewing and garage sale shopping until her illness made her too weak. She loved being with people and making new friends.
Survivor include her children and their spouses, William James Little III and wife, Donna, Texarkana, Ark.; Barbara Sue Brooks and her husband, Rex, Marion, Ark.; and Judy Diane Anderson and her husband, Bob, Malakoff; sisters, Jane Spisito, Midlothian; Betty Sharoff, Pennsylvania; and Helen Cortemeglia, Spring; brothers, Milton Kendall and his wife, Claudette, Pearland; Robert Kendall and his wife, Lavern, Truman, Ark.; eight granddaughters and one grandson; six great-grandsons; and 12 great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
Verny Bailey
Services for Verny Henrietta Putnum Bailey, 88, Mabank, were held at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Moody officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Bailey was born March 7, 1915, in New Orleans, La., and died Nov. 6, 2003, in Mabank.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann Blanks, Seagoville; Donna Tompson, Forney; grandchildren, Tegi Bailey, Cheryl Blockehoar, Kim King, Misty Kriedler and Tammy Lang, Mabank; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were George Barragan, Justin Combs, Jonathan King, Jason Morgan, Dusty Reneau and Bubba Yates. Honorary pallbearer was Ricky Lang.
George Bass
Services for First Sgt. George "Junior" Bass, 69, U.S. Army retired, were held Oct. 31, 2003, at Lucas and Thompson Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment followed at Parker Cemetery in Grapevine.
Bass was a graduate of Grapevine High School in 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Erelene Bass, Gun Barrel City; children, Bobby John and Charlene; grandchildren, Roxanne and Scooter; four great-grandchildren; sister, Lawanda Oprenchak and her husband, Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Oleta Alphin
Services for Oleta Alphin, 90, Arlington, were held Oct. 8, 2003, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Sapp officiating. Interment followed in Crandall Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Alphin was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Payne Springs to the late Arthur D. and Jessie (Smith) Pelham and died Oct. 6, 2003, in Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Alphin in 1987, brothers and sisters, Beth Moseley, Faye Carter, Bonnie Alphin, Merle Bane and Arthur Lee Pelham.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crandall.
Survivors include her sons, Bobby Alphin and his wife, Brenda, McKinney; and Tommy Alphin, Crandall; daughter, Kaye Fry, Arlington; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Dee Pelham, Sulphur Springs; and Billy Pelham, Balch Springs; sisters, Evelyn Pendley, Keller; Ruth Bryan, Garland; Anita Pelham, Wylie; and Mildred Killian, Mabank; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Betty Buckland
Services for Betty Ruth Buckland, 67, Malakoff, were held Nov. 12, 2003, at First Assembly of God in Athens with the Rev. Duncan Harrison officiating. Burial was in Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.
Buckland was born Jan. 28, 1936, in Baton Rouge, La., to Nailor Jack and Tillie Harrison and died Nov. 8, 2003, in a Houston hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Buckland and brother, Valley Harrison.
She had resided in Malakoff since 1996.
Survivors include her sons, Henry Buckland and Mark Buckland, both of Malakoff; daughter, Mary Buckland, Malakoff; brother, Albert Harrison, Pine Bluff, Ark.; sister, Lucille Grannit, Spiro, Okla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers were Mark Buckland Jr., Henry Buckland Jr., Henry Cooper, Tony Grannit, Johnny Cooper, Jack Grannit, Albert Grannit, Valley Harrison Jr., and John Grannit.
Verla Wilbanks
Services for Verla "Cookie" Cook Wilbanks, 47, Grand Prairie, were held Nov. 11, 2003, at Evangel Temple, Grand Prairie. Graveside service followed at Malakoff City Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel, Fort Worth.
Wilbanks was born April 13, 1956, in Tyler to Rev. O.B. and Sybil L. Cook, and died Nov. 8, 2003, in Grand Prairie. She was preceded in death by her father, O.B. Cook.
She graduated from Malakoff High School in 1974, and earned a bachelor of science degree at Sam Houston State University and also a graduate degree from Horizon University, the in-house-training institute of Vought Heritage Community Credit Union.
She was an assistant manager of member services and had served the VHCCU for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the Evangel Temple Assembly of God in Grand Prairie and a member of Marriage Encounter, and a charter member of the MHS Tiger-Exes Association.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Wilbanks, Grand Prairie; son Bill Wilbanks; mother, Sybil Cook; sisters, Vanna Nokes, Vonita White and Velda Fritz; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Genevieve Tucker
Mass for Genevieve Ann "Ginny" Tucker, 86, Edgewood, formerly of Mesquite, was celebrated Nov. 11, 2003, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Wills Point, with the Rev. Joseph Thekkumthala officiating.
Burial was in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home, Wills Point.
Tucker was born Dec. 6, 1916, in Altus, Ark., to Frank and Mary Magdelena Ashour Raible, and died Nov. 9, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Melvin W. Tucker, May 9, 1993.
She earned her RN degree from St. Edwards Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., and worked at Talihina Indian Hospital in Oklahoma.
She served in the Army during World War II and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church for 45 years.
Survivors include her son, Jim Tucker, Seven Points; daughters, Suzanne Morris, Edgewood; Sharon Henry and Mary Arce, both of Mesquite; Terry Raible, Lubbock; sister, Mary Dahlem, Louisberg, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Robert Moore, Garrett Raible, John Gill, Philip Pena, Mike Howell and Brent Digby.
Evelyn Kimball
Services for Evelyn Kimball, 89, Mabank, were held Nov. 12, 2003, in Eubank Memorial Chapel with Ken Maddox officiating.
Burial was in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery in Dallas.
Kimball was born April 11, 1914, in DeKalb and died Nov. 9, 2003, in Athens.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Jim Kimball, Mabank; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dick McCowen; daughter-in-law, Paula Kimball.
