Services for Linda Ruth Creel, 55, Wills Point, were held Oct. 24, 2003, at the Eubank Chapel, Canton, with the Rev. Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Canton.
Creel was born Feb. 4, 1948, in Athens to Glenn Thomas Gartman and Anna Ruth Easley Gartman Thompson, and died Oct. 21, 2003, in Tyler after a long illness.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She grew up in Dallas and lived in Van Zandt County most of her adult life. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Loryn Elizabeth Uretsky.
She was a LVN for 12 years and worked at Country View Manor in Terrell in the Alzhiemers unit for many years.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Anna and Olen Thompson, Canton; father and stepmother, Glenn and Barbara Gartman, Scurry; son, Daniel Joseph Creel, Beeville; daughters, Tammy Renee and her husband, Gordon Uretsky, Winona; Patricia Dianne and her husband, Philip Vaughan, Wills Point; grandchildren, Heather LaTessa Uretsky, Ashley Nicole Uretsky, Jonathan Paul Uretsky, Jessica Lee Ann Vaughan and Rachael Gayle Vaughan; brothers, Michael, David and Thomas Gartman; and sister, Debbie Hunter.
Lillian Cantrell Perry
Services for Lillian Cantrell Perry, 89, Chandler, were held Oct. 23, 2003, at the Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with the Revs. Glen Willis and Bill Hamilton officiating. Interment was in Elm Grove Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Perry was born July 3, 1914, in Jiba and died Oct. 20, 2003, in Tyler.
She was an electrical assembler and spent most of her life in Grand Prairie. She was with LTV for 25 years. After retirement she was activity director at Leonard Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Dorse Randolph Perry, Chandler; sons, Harold Wayne Cantrell, Royce City; Joe Allen Cantrell, Chandler; daughter, Anita Joyce White, Grand Prairie; stepdaughters, Linda Ford, Irving; Shirley Perry, Irving; stepson, Charles Perry, Allen; sisters, Minnie Lou Hoglin, Mabank; Virginia Lucile Tate, Kaufman; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Densil Ashley Roberts
Services for Densil Ashley Roberts, 91, Mabank, were held Oct. 22, 2003, at Faith Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Norris officiating. Interment was Oct. 23, 2003, in Sterling White Cemetery, Highlands, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Roberts was born May 29, 1917, in Apache, Okla. and died Oct. 20, 2003, in Athens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelee Jewel Roberts; son, Ronald Roberts; grandson, Densil Roberts; and granddaughter, Pamela Roberts Craig.
He was a district superintendent in Oil/Petroleum and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his daughter Carol and her husband, Earl McCain, Payne Springs; son, Denny and his wife, Sharon Roberts, Highlands; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Caleb Cryer, Chris Roberts, David Roberts, Mike Roberts, Ronnie Roberts and Chris Treese.
Betty Louise Miller
Services for Betty Louise Miller, Gun Barrel City, were held Oct. 24, 2003, at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas.
Miller was born June 21, 1927 in Dallas and died Oct. 20, 2003, in Gun Barrel City.
She was a graduate of Lewisville High School. She worked as an accountant for Southwestern for 16 years and retired from Ticor Realty Tax in 1992.
She was an avid gardener and was loved dearly by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Ken Miller; children, Betty Jean Bryant and her husband, Danny; Cheryl Diane Bacon; Kathryn Louise Welton and her husband, Tony; Edward Eugene Bacon Jr., and wife, Marlou; Brian Edwin Bacon and his wife, Jamie; Bruce Erwin Bacon and his wife, Michelle; stepson, Kenneth Miller and his wife, Mary Lynn; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Byrum and her husband, Tom; Doris Sypert and her husband, Dub; and brother, Edwin Wilson.
Thelma Kennedy Henry
Services for Thelma Kennedy Henry, 77, of Eustace and Emory, were held Oct. 23, 2003, at Roselawn Chapel in Seagoville. Interment followed at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Henry was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Royston, to the late Wesson and Effie Heath Kennedy, and died Oct. 20, 2003, at her home in Emory. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her twin brother, Elmer Kennedy who died in infancy.
She moved to the Weatherford area with eight brothers and sisters in 1937. She married A.T. Henry of Athens, June 7, 1950.
Survivors include her husband, A.T. Henry; son, Thomas Henry and his wife, Michelle, Combine; daughter, Brenda Henry Applegate and her husband, Wayne, Coppell; grandson, Landon Applegate; five granddaughters, Allison Henry Andrews and her husband, Christopher; Lisa Henry Perez and her husband, Joel; Jill Henry, Kelly Henry and Natalie Applegate; great-grandchild, Alexandra Grace Andrews; sisters, Juanita West and Dorothy Ferdig, Weatherford; brother, Weldon Kennedy, Weatherford; Dalton Kennedy, Abilene; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bennie Miller
Services for Bennie Miller, 65, Trinidad, will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 31, 2003, at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Eaton officiating.
Interment will be in Tool Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Miller was born May 16, 1938, in Tool and died Oct. 26, 2003, in Malakoff.
He was a millwright in chemicals and a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was married 16 years and was a member of the Trinidad VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Miller, Trinidad; and daughter, Angie Elaine Miller, Phoenix, Ariz.
Rhonda Lowery
Services for Rhonda Lowery, 37, Gun Barrel City, were held Oct. 18, 2003, at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard with Bro. Don Brooks officiating.
Burial was in Leonard Cemetery under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard.
Lowery was born Dec. 10, 1965, in Dallas to Floyd Edwards and Nancy Gene Sawyer Edwards, and died Oct. 15, 2003, in Athens. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Daisy Berry and step-grandfather, Troy Berry.
She was a housewife and married Chris Lowery in Kaufman Nov. 21, 1990.
Survivors include her husband, Chris Lowery, Gun Barrel City; sons, Eric Blankenship and Michael Wayne Brooks, both of Gun Barrel City; mother and her husband, Nancy and Paul Smith, Seagoville; father and his wife, Floyd and Pat Edwards, McKinney; sisters and husbands, Veta and John Newton, Decatur; and Janet and Dale Brewer, Leonard; and brother, Kenneth Edwards, Irving.
John Howard Payne
Services for John Howard Payne, 80, Seven Points, were held Oct. 29, 2003, in the Cedar Creek lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. John B. Cullen officiating.
Interment was in Mabank Cemetery, under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points.
Payne was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Lone Oak, and died Oct. 26, 2003, in South Place Nursing Home, Athens.
He was a Methodist and veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was a district sales manager in dairy manufacturing.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Payne, Seven Points; daughter, Kema Stokes, Richardson, stepdaughter, Sharon Ellis, Athens; sisters, Dorothy Young, Midland; and Jimmie Kinard, Lubbock; brothers, L.D. Payne, Fort Worth; and Bobby Payne, Wichita Falls; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Lovie L. Miles
Graveside services for Lovie L. Miles, Gun Barrel City, were held Oct. 29, 2003, in Woodland Cemetery, Kirvin. Arrangements were under the direction of Couch Funeral Home, Fairfield.
Miles was born April 27, 1915, in Freestone County and died Oct. 26, 2003 in an Athens hospital.
She had lived in Gun Barrel City for 23 years.
Survivors include her son, Joe N. and his wife, Wanda Ann Miles, Gun Barrel City; grandchildren, Joe D. Miles, Gary Don Miles and Dianne Record; great-grandchildren are Brandi Record and Dustin Record.
Ervilline Shaffer
Services for Ervilline Norris Shaffer were held Oct. 27, 2003, at Faith Tabernacle Assembly, Blue Mound Road, Fort Worth. Interment was in Laurel Land, Dallas.
Shaffer was born Sept. 1, 1922, in Logan County, Ark., and died Oct. 22, 2003, at North Hills Hospital, Fort Worth.
She married Ervin E. Shaffer Dec. 23, 1945. She and her husband entered the pastoral ministry in 1947 and the foreign mission service in 1952.
They served as pastor of seven Assembly of God Churches in the U.S., South Africa, Korea and Thailand. Also they were the director-pastor of two Christian servicemen's centers in Seoul, Korea and Bangkok, Thailand.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. E.E. Shaffer; daughters, Paula Crow, Kemp; and Patricia Stewart, Chicago, Ill.; son, Daniel W. Shaffer, Austin; 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Vera Wilkinson
Services for Vera Wilkinson, 82, Mabank, were held Oct. 26, 2003, in the Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Wilkinson was born March 8, 1921, and died Oct. 22, 2003, in Athens. She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jay) Wilkinson and her son, Thomas Wilkinson.
Survivors include her daughter, Glennes Langford, Mabank; grandsons, Adam Langford, U.S. Navy; Jason Langford, Athens; Jeremy Wilkinson, Mass.; Kevin and his wife, Summer Langford, Mabank; great-grandchildren Gavyn Langford, Mabank; Trinity Langford, Mabank; and Tuesday Langford, Carrollton.
Neil Wallis Adams
Services for Neal Wallis "Paw Paw" Adams, 89, Mabank, were held Oct. 25, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Rev. James Hughes officiating. Interment followed at Four Mile Cemetery in Prairieville.
Adams was born June 13, 1914, in Martinsville to Homer and Clyda Brewer Adams, and died Oct. 23, 2003.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Adams.
He sang with several Southern Gospel groups, including the Stamps-Baxter Mixed Quartet in the 1950s. He worked for the Alamo Laundry on Jefferson Street in Oak Cliff for 25 years and was a dedicated member of the Tolosa Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Adams; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kim Adams; Neil and Jan Adams; and Rick and Diane Adams; daughter-in-law, Yvette Adams; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Kaufman or the Tolosa Baptist Missionary Fund.
Delores Denning
Services for Delores "D" Denning, 68, Gun Barrel City, were held Nov. 2, 2003, at the Eubank Funeral Home.
She was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Norphlat, Ark., and died Oct. 23, 2003, in Plano, after a long battle with cancer.
Survivors include daughter, Teressa Peterson, sisters, Mary Kovacic; Diana and her husband, Tommy Reynolds; grandsons, Aaron, Christopher and Jordan Covey; nephew, Mike Hurst; and a host of close friends that loved her dearly.
Brit Aston
Services for Brit Aston, 81, Mabank, were held Nov. 11, 2003, at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with Dr. Ron Holloman officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Mabank, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Aston was born July 25, 1922, in Texas and died Nov. 8, 2003, in Mabank. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Aston.
He owned Aston's Service Station and Grocery in Mabank. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and won two Bronze Stars. He was in the Mabank High School Class of 1940.
He rode in the 2003 Homecoming Parade for Mabank High School. He was married 57 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lea Aston, Mabank; nephews, Bruce Aston and Tom Aston; nieces, Susan Leffler and Margie Sinky; sisters-in-law, Marialyce Aston; and Ramona Teel; friends, Don and Terry Owen.
Pallbearers were Johnny Adams, Richard Craft, Royce Davis, Mike Jackson, Dan Johnson and Midge Odom.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Clark, J.J. Hunter and Don Owen.
