Graveside services for Eddie Norman Smitherman, 68, Tyler, were held July 19, 2003, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tyler, with the Rev. David Sheppard officiating under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, Tyler.
Smitherman was born June 10, 1935, in Gladewater and died July 16, 2003, in Tyler. He was preceded in death by son, Robert Burton Smitherman.
He served in the Air Force, was a hospital administrator and a Baptist.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Skierski, Kemp; and Susan Smitherman, Tyler; and two grandsons.
Wendell Dean Beals
Graveside services for Wendell Dean Beals, 87, Irving and formerly of the Cedar Creek Lake area and Athens, were held July 21, 2003, at Newport Cemetery in Newport with the Rev. Terry Haralson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Beals was born July 1, 1916, in Stewardson, Ill. to Bertie A. and Katie E. Coons Beals, and died July 19, 2003, in Irving.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mima Beals, Feb. 12, 2002; his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Russell Beals.
He lived on Cedar Creek Lake from 1972 to 2001, and in Athens one year. He was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life for 18 years and worked as an engineer for the Texas State Highway Department for 15 years before retiring in 1978. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II. He was a mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Enell Beals, Colleyville; daughter, Ellen K. Temple, Dallas; sister-in-law, Shirley Beals, New Bern, N.C.; and grandson, Jason Beals, Houston.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald E. Beals, Kenneth Beals, Jason Beals, Edward Ratcliffe, Paul Sano and Bob Woodward.
Shirley Grant
Services for Shirley Grant, 57, Mabank, were held July 20, 2003, at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with the Revs. Steve Ballard, Paul McKinney, Charles Davis and Steve Glosup officiating.
Grant was born June 1, 1946, in Brownsboro and died July 18, 2003, in Athens.
She was a homemaker and the best mother and wife in the world and loved her grandchildren and loved to fish. She was married 42 years.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Grant, Payne Springs; parents, Billy and Margie Davis, Mabank; children, Tammy and Robby Bracey, Gun Barrel City; Brandon and Angie Grant, Eustace; Paul and Ericka Grant, Mabank; Poncho and Anita Grant, Eustace; brothers, Charles and Lisa Davis, Mabank; Don and Rosie Davis, Flower Mound; sisters, Judy and Eddie Hein, Mabank; Delores and Lester Patton, Mabank; 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Robby Bracey, Tommy Bracey, Charles Davis, Don Davis, Brandon Grant, Dwane (Poncho) Grant, Paul Grant and Paul Scott Grant.
Amy Gentry
Graveside services for Amy Diane Maxey Gentry, 46, Gun Barrel City, were held July 23, 2003, at the Meridith Campground under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Gentry was born Sept. 19, 1956, in Evansville, Ind., and died July 13, 2003. She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Browning Maxey.
She had lived in the Gun Barrel City area for five years. She worked at West Place Nursing Home.
Survivors include her sons, Darrell Utley and James Gentry, both of Providence, Ky.; and Howard Utley, Calhoun, Ky.; and daughter, Amy Gentry, Gun Barrel City; brother, James Maxey Clay, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
Harold Lloyd Littleton Jr.
A wake for Harold "Bubba" Lloyd Littleton Jr., Gun Barrel City, was held July 26, 2003, at the family residence in Gun Barrel City. Arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Littleton was born Dec. 29, 1948, in Tyler, and died July 19, 2003, in Dallas.
He was the owner of Bubba's Home Repair and president of the Sherwood Shores P.O.A. He also entertained as Santa Claus at Christmas and during the Christmas parade.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Littleton, Gun Barrel City; son, Brandon Littleton, Galveston; parents, Harold and Virginia Littleton Sr., Tyler; other family members and many friends.
Nolan Baker Sr.
Nolan D. Baker Sr., 79, Eustace, died July 19, 2003, in Eustace. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements will be handled by the Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Baker was born September 5, 1923, in Kaufman County.
He was a brick mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Baker, Eustace; daughters, Kathy Rachelle Amason, Tyler; Susan Kay Bates, Mabank; Debra Lynn Wilson, Caddo Mills; sons, James Lee Baker, Mesquite; Roger Dale Baker, Mabank; and Nolan Baker Jr., Eustace.
Terry Jones
Graveside services for Terry Echols Jones, 53, Malakoff, were held July 21, 2003, at Wortham Bend Cemetery, Waco with Bro. Woods officiating. Services were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
Jones was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Dallas and died July 18, 2003, in Athens.
He lived in this area for 13 years and was an auto mechanic. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Jones, Malakoff; mother, Kay Jones, Malakoff; children, Tiffany Stayart, Waco; and Terry J. Jones, Malakoff; sister, Lou Ann Harmon, Denton; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Lenny Eason
Services of remembrance for Lenny Shane "Bear" Eason, 22, Kemp, were held July 21, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with Pastor David Lewis officiating. Interment followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman County, near Kemp.
Eason was born Sept. 7, 1980, in Waxahachie, to Rev. Leonard Eason and Mrs. Charlotte "Shawn" Eason, and died July 17, 2003, at his home near Kemp.
He graduated from Mabank High School in 1998. He was a member of the Styx Baptist Church, being baptized in 1995.
He participated in the Special Olympics and was a loving and caring son. He enjoyed going on ;visitation visits with his father, Rev. Leonard Eason.
Survivors include his parents, Leonard and "Shawn" Eason, Kemp; sisters, Toby Lee Hall, Ruby Lewis and Michelle Webb, all of Kemp; grandmother, Johnnie Davis, Kemp; great grandparents, Eunice Jenkins and Henry Lee DeWitt, both of Kemp; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Paul Herson Sr.
Funeral arrangements for Paul Kenneth Herson Sr., formerly of Dallas, were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points.
Herson was born March 13, 1911, in Ithaca, N.Y., and died July 17, 2003, in Athens. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Willis.
He was a photo finisher and developer and was past president of Master Photo Finishers and Dev. Assoc. (MPDFA).
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Florence Herson, Trinidad; sons, Paul Herson and wife, Cecilia, Trinidad; John Herson and wife, Kathy, Denton; sister, Marion Vorrhees, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Brenda Beth Hattersley
Services for Brenda Beth Hattersley, 50, Gun Barrel City, were held July 23, 2003, at Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Seven Points, with Ken Maddox officiating.
Hattersley was born Sept. 25, 1952, in Ferris, and died July 20, 2003, at her residence in Gun Barrel City.
She was Presbyterian by faith and a homemaker. She resided in DeSoto prior to moving to the lake area.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Conn.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Hattersley of Gun Barrel City; daughters, Amy Beth Farrald of Red Oak and Cindy Beth Hattersley of Colorado Springs, Colo; step-son, Robert Wayne Hattersley of Tool; brothers, Billy Conn of Tyler, Benny Conn of Bardwell and Michael Conn of Tampa, Fla; sisters, Barbara Campbell of Redford and Betty Campbell of San Angelo; aunt Margie and five grandchildren.
Sandra Brooks
Memorial services for Sandra Brooks, 61, Trinidad, were held July 26, 2003, at Trinity Baptist Church in Trinidad, with Ron Huckabee officiating.
Brooks was born November 29, 1941, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and died July 19, 2003, at her residence in Trinidad.
She was previously a resident of Arlington, and had lived in Trinidad for 10 years, where she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Brooks of Trinidad; sons, Joseph D. Brooks of Palestine, Scott Brooks of Mayfield, New York and Steve Brooks of Trinidad; brother, Eugene D. Byrd, Jr. of Indialantic, Fla; six grandchildren, Samantha Brooks, Danielle Brooks, Jodi Brooks and Timmy Brooks, all of Palestine; Brittany Brooks and Brian Brooks, both of Mayfield, New York.
Emma Eloise Farley Rosser
Services were held for Emma Eloise Farley Rosser, July 22, 2003, at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Rev. Dub Henry officiating.
Interment followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman County.
Rosser was born August 31, 1930, in Terrell, the daughter of Calvin Farley and Etta Bruner Farley, and died July 19, 2003, in Mesquite.
She was employed at Harris, Upham Stock Exchange, then managed the Pig Stand on Northwest Highway in Dallas for 17 years. Later she worked as an electronic assembler at Polly Speed in Dallas.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob Jolly Rosser; sons, Roy Douglas and wife Melba, and William Randol and wife, Barbara; brother, Johnny Farley; sisters, Irene Carter and Juanita Ivey; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
James Ray Shelton
Services of remembrance for James Ray Shelton, 68, Kemp, were held July 22, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Rev. Bobby Sapp officiating.
Interment followed at King Cemetery in Henderson County.
Ray was born Feb.17, 1935, in Dallas County, the son of J.B. Shelton and Pearl Massey Shelton, and died July 19, 2003, in Kaufman County.
He married Jaunell Johnson on March 2, 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Jaunell Shelton; daughters, Donna Rightenour and husband Donald of Mabank and Deborah Ramoz and husband Arthur of Kemp; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Brandi and Donald Rightenour Jr., James and Heather Shelton and Christina and Shelby Marino; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Kylee and Gavin Rightenour, Jonathan Wainiopa and Macayla Ramoz; brother, William Shelton of Kemp; sister, Dorothy Brentlinger of DeSoto, and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Pearl Shelton; son, Dennis Shelton and brother, Herman Shelton.
