Memorial services for Clara Beth Young, 64, of Mabank, were held March 15 at Eubank Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul McKinney officiating, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
She was born July 22, 1938, in Payne Springs, and died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Athens.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Joyner and her brother, Ambers "Pete" Andreu Hamilton.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Young of Mabank; her daughters, Brenda Carter of Athens, Donna Pollock of Grand Prairie, Vickie Roberts of Bohland, Terrie Rogers of Kilgore and Debbie Wisniwski of Antioch, Tennessee; sister, Joyce Champion of Marshall; brothers, Bill Hamilton of Kansas City, Missouri, Ray Hamilton of Ector, and Lee Hamilton of Stanaway, Washington; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Hazel Williams
Services for Hazel Williams, 64, Tyler, were held March 15 at Ernest S. Sterling Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Ollie McDade officiating, under the direction of Brooks-Sterling & Garret Funeral Directors of Tyler. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
She was born June 22, 1938, in Winona, and died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Tyler.
She was a lifelong resident of Smith County, and attended Emmett Schott High School and was a home health care aide.
She was preceded in death by three children.
Pallbearers were Jim Sirles, Gary Sirles, Eric Sirles, Monroe Jett, Douglas Oliver and Henry Jett.
Survivors include sons, Donnie Williams of Tyler and James Williams of Amarillo; daughters, Shelia Williams and LaTosha Williams, both of Tyler; siters, Ruby Hood of Dallas, and Dorothy Harrell of Gun Barrel City; and 13 grandchildren.
Annie L. Johnston
Services for Annie L. Johnston, 77, of Mabank, will be held March 22, 2003, in the Eubank Memorial Chapel at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Don Teague officiating, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Johnston was born November 10, 1925 in Forney and died March 15, 2003, in Bedford.
Survivors include her husband Robert A. Johnston of Mabank; daughter Patricia Jean Johnston of Charlotte, North Carolina; sons, Robert Michael Johnston of Mabank and William Kyle Johnston of Mabank; brother Bud McCllough of Comanche Oklahoma; sister Bessie Osborne of Dallas and two grandchildren.
Joshua Walton Davis
Services of remembrance for Joshua Walton Davis, 17, of Kemp, were held March 15, 2003, at the Christian Life Center Church in Gun Barrel City with the Reverends Barry Boatright and Kenny White officiating.
Interment followed in the Cedar Creek Memorial Park in Mabank under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kemp.
He was born February 10, 1986 in Dallas, the son of Darrell and Nanette Wall Davis, and passed away March 11, 2003, in Dallas.
He was a student at Kemp High School where he lettered in the athletic program this past year.
He was a member of the BETA Club, as well as the Christian Life Center Church.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Nannette Davis of Kemp; sisters, Ashley Davis, Brittany Davis and Christa Davis, all of Kemp; grandparents, Ralph and Irene Davis of Mesquite and Linda and Larry Morris of Kemp; great-grandparents, Dorothy Rawlins and Bill and Helen Morris and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Chase McTaggart, Nick Emfinger, James Davis, Randy Roe, Mark Guzman, Jeremy Guzman, Matt Cram and Bobby Zimmerman. Matt Beitzel was an honorary pallbearer.
Lois Arambula
Memorial services for Lois Arambula, 42, of Enchanted Oaks, were held March 18, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Mabank with the Rev. Scott Schaller officiating.
She was born September 6, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida, and died March 15, 2003, in Dallas.
She was a home room mother in Eustace, a vacation Bible school teacher and active in church.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Arambula of Enchanted Oaks; children, Evan, Zane Zachery and Amalie of Enchanted Oaks; sisters Maureen Forsberg of Plano and Rhonda Reynolds of Los Angeles, California; and parents, Gerald and Janet Quiram.
Mildred Suckla
Services for Mildred Suckla, 89, of Gun Barrel City were held Sunday at the Chatfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Porter officiating, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank. Interment followed at the Chatfield Cemetery, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
She was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Alvon, W.V., and died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Gun Barrel City.
She was a mother, wife, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and an active member of her church and community.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Suckla of Eustace; daughter, Deana Thomas of Gun Barrel City; brother, Porter Dean of Arizona; sisters, Mary Eleanor of Pennsylvania, and Chlora Lucas of White Sulpher Spring, West Virginia; grandchildren, Tim Thomas, Holly Jones, Daniel Thomas; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Mark Jones, Kelly Suckla, Dan Thomas, and Tim Thomas.
Charles Richard Scholfield
Graveside services for Charles Richard Scholfield, 59, of Tool, were held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Winnsboro, with the Rev. Ken Hinkley officiating, under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points.
He was born Oct. 6, 1943, in Dallas, and died March 12, 2003, in Athens.
He was a food salesman and served in the United States Navy from March 1964, until March 1966.
Survivors include his mother, Hesta Mae LaRue, of Winnsboro; wife, Billie VanBlaricum of Tool; sons, Darren Scholfield of Rowlett and Scott Scholfield of Mesquite; and two grandchildren.
James Vinson Woodruff
Graveside services were held for James Vinson Woodruff, 51, of Eustace, March 20, 2003, at Cedar Creek Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Glosup officiating, under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
He was born Sept. 15, 1951, in Dallas, and died March 16, 2003, in Dallas.
He was a computer technician and served in the Army.
Survivors include his mother, Jo Ann Woodruff of Eustace; step-sons, Donnie Davis and Gary Davis of Malakoff; daughter, Samantha Nicole Davis of Oklahoma City, Ok.; step-daughter, Toni Featherston of Malakoff; step-son, David Jones of Kentucky; and nine grandchildren.
Wendell "Couch" Davenport
Memorial services for Wendell "Couch" Davenport, 73, of Gun Barrel City were held Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 43976 in Seven Points.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Davenport was born in Cheshire, Ohio March 1, 1930, and passed away March 9, 2003, in Kaufman.
He served in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer.
Survivors included sons, David Davenport of Spring, and Robert Howard Stone of Georgia; brothers, Lester Davenport of Columbus, Ohio and Winfred Davenport of Delaware, Ohio; sisters, Ester Nelligan of Marietta, Georgia, Opal Taylor of Thurston, Ohio, Elisabeth Wanamaker of Columbus, Ohio and Catherine Wyatt of Newark, Ohio.
William Riley
Services for William "Whit" Riley, 70, Tyler, were held May 15, 2003, at Lloyd James Funeral Home chapel, Tyler, with the Rev. Dr. Royce Riley officiating. Burial was in Cathedral in the Pines.
Riley was born May 28, 1932, in Tyler, to the late Eugene B. and Cathlene Burks Riley, and died May 13, in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Riley.
He graduated from Tyler High School in 1949 and East Texas State University in 1970. He did graduate studies at Texas A&M University, University of Oklahoma, and Columbia University.
He spent 40 years in the trucking industry, including 17 years with Tyler Pipe Industries, and retired from American Buildings Corp. in Eufaula, Ala., in 1999. He was a member of State of Texas Trucking Association, president and chairman of the board of Alabama Trucking Association, and president of ABC Transportation Inc.
In 1993 he was awarded the H. Chester Webb Distinguished Service Award, and was also listed in Who's Who in America. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.
Survivors include sons, Bill Riley, Corsicana; and Kevin Riley, Eufaula, Ala.; daughters, Laura Myrick, Tyler; and Melissa Scoggins, Balrico, Fla.; brother, the Rev. Dr. Royce Riley; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chuch Chamness, Chip Riley, Chuck Riley, Charlie Hines, Steve Hodges and Doug Malone.
Honorary pallbearers were Ben Riley, James Myrick, Tyler Caldwell and Lawton Riley.
Thomas Ray Sr.
Services for Thomas William "Popa" Ray Sr., 80, Eustace, were held May 16, 2003, at the Eubank Funeral Home chapel, Canton, with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial was in Payne Springs Cemetery, Henderson County.
Ray was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Eustace, to the late James Arlander and Eugenia Elizabeth Mason Ray, and died May 13 at this residence. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre, and retired in 1982 from Local Union 81 in Dallas. He was a member of Eustace United Methodist Church, Van Zandt County Sheriff's Posse Association, a 32nd Degree Mason, Easter Star, South Van Zandt County Volunteer Fire Department, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Local Union 481 in Dallas, and Cottonwood and Big Rock County Crime Watch.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen Ray, Eustace; daughter, Joyce Sturdivant, Forney; son, Thomas William Ray Jr., Eustace; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Patty Hess
Services for Patty Hess, 70, Mesquite, were held May 16, 2003, at the Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Kemp with Rev. Dub Henry officiating. Interment followed in the Kemp Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kemp.
Hess was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Kemp and died May 12, 2003, at her residence in Mesquite. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
She had lived in Mesquite for the past 35 years and was married to Charles Hess, Sept. 10, 1955, in Rockwall. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Hess, Mesquite; daughters, Sandra Busby, Princeton; and Jill Tucker, Richardson; son, Marc Hess, Balch Springs; and four grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as numerous other friends and relatives.
Wanda Jean Courson

She was an accountant.
