He is survived by his wife, Vanessa V. (Vargas) Rodriguez; his parents, Joe and Alma Rodriguez; brother, Phillip Michael Rodriguez and sister, Alicia Inez Rodriguez all of Lockhart, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M., to 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 26, 2010 at McCurdy Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7:30 P.M., Friday, November 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by interment at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Michael Lee McConnell

Michael Lee McConnell, age 69, passed away Nov. 18, 2010 in Austin, TX. Michael was a special son, brother, uncle to his family and he will be missed. Born in Fort Worth, TX August 27, 1941 to Lee Roy C. McConnell and Nelle McConnell Seekatz. Michael spent most of his life in Austin, TX except for a few short years of his youth in Ft. Worth and Los Angeles, CA. Michael worked at James Motorcycle Shop on Guadalupe Street for a number of years as well as some other motorcycle shops in Austin. He developed a great love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and rode them for years. He also worked at the City of Austin power plants and the airport for 20 years until his retirement. His other great interest was wrestling, where he developed friendships with a number of the original wrestlers that appeared in Austin through the years. Michael was preceeded in death by his father, mother, brother James McConnell, and niece Laurel McConnell. Survivors include sister Stephanie Hampton, brother Timothy McConnell and wife Jean; step-sisters Floy Dawson and husband, George. Flo Elaine Finch; daughter-in-law Janice Pargman McConnell, cousin Jeanne Sellers.

Roscoe Jay Chambliss

Roscoe Jay Chambliss, 95, passed away peacefully November 15, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was born August 26, 1915 in Dale, Texas to Alvis and Lenora (Walker) Chambliss. Roscoe grew up on a farm outside of Lockhart and married his childhood sweetheart, Bernice Witter, 73 years ago. He served in General Patton’s Third Army during World War II. In 1949 he began his career with Wuest, Inc. in San Marcos and retired in 1990 at Wuest corporate office in Seguin. He served on the San Marcos School Board, was a member of the San Marcos Volunteer Fire Department, the Kiwanis club and was a 70 year member of the Lytton Springs Masonic Lodge. There was always a quiet dignity about Roscoe. There was a sense of humor and a ready smile. He was a kind and understanding person. Roscoe was a good listener and many sought his advice and counsel. He was preceded in death by his mother Lenora and his father Alvis, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, son Terry and wife Peggy, daughter Sharon Williams and husband Bill, granddaughter Penny Deal.

Amaya of Utopia, Texas; daughter, Lois Rodriguez of Lockhart, Texas; Son in law, Robert Rodriguez; grand daughter, Vicky Rodriguez; 3 brothers, Gregorio Lopez of Hondo, Texas, Felipe Lopez of Lockhart, Juan Lopez of Hondo; 3 sisters, Paublita Lopez of Lockhart, Texas, Anita Torres of Lockhart, Texas and Luisa Urrutia of Lockhart. She is survived by brother, Isabel Lopez, six sons; Isidro Amaya Jr. and Lydia of Lockhart, Luis Amaya and Connie of Lockhart, Francisco Amaya and Myrna of Elgin, Armando Amaya and Yolanda of Lockhart, Jesse Amaya and Yolanda of Lockhart, Carlos Amaya of Lockhart, one daughter; Terri Amaya of Lockhart, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-children. Family received friends November 16, 2010 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Services were held November 17, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment followed to Lockhart City Cemetery. SHE WAS A LONG TIME MEMBER OF THE BAPTIST CHURCH AND BELONGED TO THE TOMBALL EASTERN STAR. SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER DURING WW11, AFTER THE WAR SHE MOVED TO HOUSTON TEXAS WITH HER HUSBAND CHARLES AND WORKED FOR SEARS FOR 20 YEARS. GLADYS WAS AN EXCELLENT SEAMSTRESS AND SHE LOVED TO PAINT AND DID A GREAT JOB WITH LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS. SHE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Maria Arredondo Eureste

Maria Arredondo Eureste passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Monday, April 4, 2011. Maria was born in Lockhart, Texas, on June 26, 1917, the seventh of ten children born to to Melecio Arredondo and Teresa Torres. She was married to Octaviano Eureste, Sr., on Oct. 27, 1946 in Uhland Texas. Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Octaviano Eureste Sr.; her daughter, Ramona; son-in-law, Robert Tamayo; sisters, Petra Herrera, Sixta Rodriguez, Rosita Carrizales, Margarita Arredondo and Isabel Rodriguez; and brothers, Blas, Santos, Flugencio and Delfino Arredondo. Maria was known for her green thumb, wonderful cooking, loving her family, and being strong in her faith. Maria faithfully prayed her rosary, walked as a Christian daily, and touched every person's life she came in contact with. Maria is survived by her son, Octaviano Eureste, Jr. (Guadalupe), and daughters: Mary Martha Tamayo, Janie Villarreal (Waldo), and Theresa Villapando (Albert). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five-great grandchildren, all of whom she loved spending time with. Maria’s family would like to express special thanks to Chisholm Trail Living and Rehabilitation Center. Your compassion and care will always be appreciated.

Thomas Burton Bunnell

Thomas Burton Bunnell passed from this life to be with his Lord on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the age of 96. Tom was born in Paradise, Texas February 28, 1915 to Edmund and Josie Bunnell. Tom enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the south Pacific during WWII, as well as serving in the Army Reserves until 1975, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Tom met and married Josephine Steger in 1946 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949. He worked as the County Agent for Bee and Karnes Counties, and then worked for many years as an Agricultural Economist with the Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior, in Austin until his retirement. His work centered on long range planning of water use resources and conservation projects for Texas. Tom and Josephine had two children, Josephine (Jodie) and Thomas, Jr., both of Lockhart. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of sixty years, Josephine Steger Bunnell, as well as his grand daughter Alison Friedrich Berry. He is also preceded in death by his brothers.

Cora Emma Clark

Cora Emma Clark passed from this life on March 26, 2011 at the age of 97. She was born at Sagerton, Haskell County, Texas, on Oct. 8, 1913, to Terrell Ross and Corrie Robertson Clark. After graduating from Lockhart High School in 1932, Cora earned her Bachelor of Science degree from San Marcos Teacher's College. Her dedication to educating children was evidenced by a 38-year teaching career in Texas public schools. She was a 56-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a Lifetime Member of Texas Retired Teachers. On June 2, 1946, she married Hugh David Clark in Luling, Texas. They were blessed with a daughter, Kathryn Ann. Cora was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a 25-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of Guadalupe Victoria Chapter DAR and Regent of Loyalty Chapter DAR in Alexandria, La. While in Alexandria, she was Organizing Regent of Daughters of American Colonists, a member of the Daughters of the War of 1812 and Colonial Dames of XVII along with other patriotic organizations. Among her many hobbies were reading, gardening and family research. She enjoyed a good game of dominoes.

Phyllis E. Kukla

Phyllis E. Kukla, of Lockhart, Texas, born November 28, 1936, went suddenly into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, She was the daughter of Robert and Vaunda Hortin of Albion, Illinois. Two daughters were born to her and Robert W. Kukla: Lisa Krushinski and Janet Price. Lisa and Carl live in Cream Ridge, NJ, and have three children: Hannah, Wesley, and Thomas. Janet and Chris live in Lockhart and have three children: Air Force SSgt Jay and his wife Ame live in Cheyenne, WY; Jill is an elementary school teacher in Copperas Cove; and Jennifer will be a Junior at Texas A&M in the Fall. Phyllis' brother Bruce Hortin and his wife Caroll live in Albion. Phyllis had been a member of First Lockhart Baptist and Martindale Baptist churches over the last 12 years. An avid student of the Bible, she ministered to hundreds of people through her generosity and notes and letters of encouragement. Her cats brought her great joy and comfort. She battled Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years and would suggest donations to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.

Carol Anne Beaver

Carol Anne Beaver went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2011. She passed away at her home near Lockhart following a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was the first of 4 daughters of James D. Brasher and Betty A. Hodges. Carol was born December 19, 1955 in Pasadena, Texas. In addition to her father and mother, Carol is survived by: her loving husband of 7 years, Jeff Beaver; 3 sons - Michael, Dustin and Layton Warmack; Layton’s wife, Holly; 2 granddaughters, Kelsie Anne Warmack and Maddy Ruiz; 1 grandson, Layton Leles Warmack; 3 sisters, Vicki Perdue, Barbara Payne and Terri Barton. She is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, step-father, 2 brothers-in-law, 2 step-daughters and her husband’s family. Carol began her business career in Houston, Texas as a bookkeeper for Brinadd Company, a multi-national workover and completion fluids company owned by her late step-father, J. M. Jackson. While with Brinadd Company Carol gained early knowledge of computerized accounting systems when she worked closely with the programmer to convert that hand-written system to a computerized one.

Gordon W. Lackey passed away, Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the age of 88. He was born September 30, 1922 to Dan and Ada Lackey in Dale, Texas. He was a rancher and farmer for 60 years along with serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan T. and Ada Lackey; wife, Virginia S. Lackey; one brother Valon Lackey; three sisters Yrie Collins, Orie Tausch and Ruth Lackey. He is survived by his wife, Dianna Lackey; two sons, Shane Hill and wife Samantha and Audie Hill; three grandchildren, Scarlett Hill, Trinity Baker and Shane Hill Jr., extended family and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers; Caven Woodward, Clinto Brown, Paul Resendez, Dennis Dodson, Zack Davis, Jim Mc Daniel. Visitation will be held Monday, March 28, 2011 from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Brackettville Cemetery in Brackettville, Texas. Luis Villarreal passed away, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the age of 60. He was born June 23, 1950 in Austin, Texas where he worked for the Hunter Industry for almost 20 years. He is preceded in death by his mother, Celia Barrientos, one sister and one brother. He is survived by four sons, Luis Robert and Catheline Villarreal of San Marcos, Carlos and Irma Urrutia of Lockhart, Valentin and Terri Urrutia of San Marcos and James and Sarah Urrutia of Buda; two daughters, Crystal and Fernando Flores of Maxwell and Rosalinda Urrutia and Mario Mendez of Lockhart; two sisters, Connie and Gabriel Gutierrez of Austin and Susie and Ray Ybarra of Bastrop along with 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 5:00 P.M with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 10:00 A.M at St. Marys Church in Lockhart, Texas. Interment will follow at the Phelan Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas. Frances Ann Johnson

Frances Ann Johnson passed away, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the age of 81. She was born on December 10, 1929 to Jack Ransom and Billie Lawson. She was born in Elgin, Texas and raised in Round Rock, Texas by her grandmother Ava Belle Shipp and her parents Billie and Henry Wilhelm. The first job she ever had was as an elevator operator for Scarboroughs in downtown Austin. She later worked for Levines and Zales Corporation as a bookkeeper. Her goal was to travel to every state capitol which she did by automobile on summer vacations. She also traveled to Hawaii and enjoyed a trip to Europe while her daughter was serving overseas. She will truly be missed by all of us but being able to be with her mom for St. Patrick’s Day is what she wanted. She is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Susan Michelle Johnson. She is survived by five sons, Angel Douglas Mason, Charles Mason Williams, David Joel Johnson, Darryl Eugene Johnson and Jacob Wayne Johnson; one daughter, Mary Kathrine Johnson, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Oliver N. Mueller

Oliver N. Mueller, 82, of Lockhart, Texas was born 11-08-1928 in Buckman, Minnesota and passed away on 02-28-2011 in Austin. Oliver is survived by Ingrid Mueller, his wife of 44 years and by his brother Paul Mueller and family of Kayesville, Utah, and nieces and nephews. Oliver attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart and spent many volunteer hours as an usher. He and Ingrid also served as godparents for numerous children and sponsors for persons newly professing the Catholic faith. Oliver served 22 years in the U.S. Airforce, stationed overseas and in Vietnam. He was a graduate of UT Austin in 1978. Later, while living in Lockhart, he volunteered as a member of the City Planning and Zoning Commission. Visitation will not be held, but a funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church on the corner of Pecan and Blanco Streets in Lockhart on March 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Robert Becker presiding. McCurdy Funeral Home will officiate. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements under the care and guidance of McCurdy Funeral Home.

June Ernestine Corbell Gabriel

June Ernestine Corbell Gabriel passed away on February 17 due to complications of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. Ernestine was born on June 20, 1931 in Bastrop, Texas. She was the only child of Ernest “Cap” and Stella Watterson Corbell. She was raised in the Watterson Community, where Cap farmed and ranched and Stella taught school in Bastrop. Ernestine graduated from Bastrop High School in 1948. She received a BS in chemistry from Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State) in 1951. On May 12, 1951 Ernestine married Jack Gabriel and began her adventure as a cattle trader’s wife – not knowing of the thousands of miles she would drive, countless steaks she would fry, drinks she would mix, gates she would open and the great friendships she would make along the way. Ernestine was known as “Red” – that was the name Jack gave her after her beautiful auburn hair. During their first year of marriage, Jack served in Korea and Ernestine taught chemistry in East Bernard. On Jack’s return, they settled in Lockhart and started Jack Gabriel Cattle Company. Ernestine handled many of the bookkeeping details.

Vernis V. Davis, 90, of Red Rock, Texas passed away Monday, February 14, 2011 in Lockhart, Texas. Mrs. Davis was born on October 23, 1920 to Howard P. and Gladys (Hendrix) Voigt. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe G. Davis Sr., one son, Joe G. “Joey” Davis Jr., one sister, Venver Briscoe and one brother, Roy C. “Bo” Voigt. She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Wallace and husband Jimmy Clyde, five grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Anna Ciara Lucienne Laurellyn Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Anna Ciara Lucienne Laurellyn, 72, of Caldwell County, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, February 5, 2012 with family at her side. Anna Ciara was born Cynthia Beatrice Brownlee on October 1, 1939 in Maghull, United Kingdom and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1958. After marrying Bobby Carroll Selby in Amarillo, TX in 1960, she moved with her husband to the Austin area in 1963. Together they moved to Caldwell County in 1998 to be near family. She enjoyed spending time with family, corresponding with friends, reading, listening to classical music, playing the piano, and caring for her pets. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Carroll Selby (2008); parents Leonard Arthur Brownlee and Elsie Whittall Brownlee; and step-father Richard Pinkley. She is survived by son, Kim Lawrence Selby and wife, Wanda Carlisle-Selby, of Caldwell County; son, Leonard Ian Selby and fiancé Becca Churton of Chandler, AZ; brother Geoff Brownlee and wife, Gayle Brownlee, of Acworth, GA; sister, Christine Baldock and husband, Tony Baldock, of Ireland.
