Hubby
We have lost one of the finest Superheroes to have graced our planet. Mr. William Orion Hubby has "retired" to another realm, reuniting with the one true love of his life, Mary Margaret Phillippi, aka "Bunny Phillips," his former wife and music making partner in the renowned vocal group, The Signatures (as recorded on Warner Brothers Records).
He was born in Fort Worth, raised in Corpus Christi and graduated as student commandant from military school.
Mr. Hubby spent a lifetime battling for those afflicted by the forces of ignorance, boredom, human /animal suffering and bad grammar. He drew upon his vast arsenal of knowledge in virtually every field. This included his mastery of jazz drumming (playing stints with legends Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Stan Kenton and Billy Tipton, among others), tap dancing, physics, astronomy, photography, river raft guiding, computers, humor, art, literature and profound gentlemanly comportment.
He fell in love with the Big Bend area and moved here in 1983 to bring his mother, Edith Roberts, to the healthier climate of this beautiful region. He is perhaps best known in Alpine as a vital member of the Museum of the Big Bend team with whom he served for 12 years and loved as family.
A memorial celebration of his life and good works will be held this Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4:30 p.m. at the Railroad Blues, 504 W. Holland Ave. in Alpine.
