Bowman
Newton Harrison Bowman III, "Harry," passed away suddenly on Aug. 16, 2004. He had been a resident of Alpine for the past four years. Mr. Bowman had been a long time resident of Truckee, Calif., where he worked as a building contractor.
He is survived by his mother, Gene Fox, of Alpine; and his sister, Sandy Doyal, of Waxahachie. He is also survived by two nieces.
Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
Demetri
Edward David Demetri, Jr., beloved husband, brother and uncle, died unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on Aug. 26, 2004. He was born Feb. 22, 1942, to the late Edward David and Lois Jean Miller Demetri.
He was a resident of Terlingua, where he served on the Board of Directors for Terlingua Ranch and as Judge Advocate of American Legion Post #653.
Mr. Demetri was a 1960 graduate of Garland High School and a 1967 graduate of North Texas State University. On July 3, 1964, he married Elizabeth Clayman, a loving marriage that lasted for 40 years. Ed and his wife had recently retired to Terlingua Ranch, where he designed and built his own home, and they were able to spend a very happy year and a half.
He is survived his wife, Elizabeth Clayman Demetri; brothers, Dr. Leslie Robert and wife, Cherie S. Demetri of Dallas, Kent Frederick and wife, Wanda, of Richardson; brother-in-law, the Rev. Jimmy and wife, Kay Clayman; sister-in-law, Julia and husband, Joseph Battino; uncles, Walter and wife, Jeanne Demtri of Garland, Raymond Demetri of Arizona and Allen Demetri of Virginia; nieces and nephews, Leslie, Jr. "Chip" Demetri and wife, Peggy, Jason Arthur Demetri and wife, Stacy, Ryan Edward Demetri, Adam Richard Demetri, Christopher Michael Clayman and wife, Nichole, Jeremy Ryan Clayman and wife, Sommer, Julianne and James Battino, and Greg, Eric, Gary, Sophie, Tonya, Tripp, Kristen and Nathan; great-nieces and nephews, Joshua, Zachary, Nathan and Camryn Demetri.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 1, in Williams Memorial Chapel in Garland with the Rev. "Jim" Clayman officiating. Interment followed in Garland Memorial Park.
Gorby
Richard Gorby, 83, died Wednesday Aug 25, 2004. He was born April 25, 1921, in Palmer Neb, to Clifford and Dorothy Wadsworth Gorby. Three weeks after Pearl Harbor, Richard joined the Marine Corps and served for four years mainly in the Pacific Theater. After the war, using the GI bill, he earned his bachelor's degree in history from the university of California at Berkeley and his master's in education from the University of Arizona. He spent the next 32 years in Tucson teaching history and English at Doolen Junior High School.
Among his many students were his son, Benjamin Parke Gorby, and Frederick, Sarah, and David Blucher, who introduced him to their mother, Jean Hamilton. She became his wife in 1970.
After his retirement in 1986, Richard and Jean moved to Prescott, Ariz, and Richard worked for 16 years in the Achives of the Sharlot Hall Museum. Many of his articles on Prescott history were published in the Prescott Courier's Sunday column, "Days Past".
In March of 2002 Richard and Jean moved to Alpine. He is survived by his wife, Jean; brother, Don Gorby of California; sons, Ben Gorby of Lasqueti, Canada, Rick Blucher of Alpine and his children, Bracken, Eowyn, Amber and her two daughters; David Blucher and his wife, Melanie, of Atlanta, and daughter, Sarah, her husband, Bob Meisner, and their sons, Steven and Ricky of Round Rock. Memorial services will be held at Live Oak Unitarian Church in Cedar Park, at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Alpine Public Library.
Killebrew
Irma Iola Killebrew, 89, entered into rest on Aug 30, 2004 in San Antonio. She was born April 10, 1915, to the late Maude Hazel (Maggart) and Clyde Beem in Burke County, N.D. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Milton Killebrew, and son, Milton G. Killebrew.
She is survived by her daughters, Darlene K. Peterson and husband Pete and Betty H. Anderson; grandchildren, Luther Killevrew, Justin Killebrew, David Sartain, Jeff Sartain, Carol Winter, Jenny Coffey, Tim Peterson, Duane Peterson, Wade Peterson and Kathy Haekenweider:, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was an active member of the Women's Society of the Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept 2, at 3 p.m at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in San Antonio. Burial will be private at Weslaco City Cemetery in Weslaco. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 722 Robinhood, San Antonio, TX 78209 or Wesley Community Center.
McIntyre
Patrick J. McIntyre went to rest with Our Lord Aug. 27, 2004.
He was the beloved husband of Helen Speekels McIntyre for 62 years, and the cherished father of five daughters, the late Pat Kester, Elizabeth Berglund, Dorothy Papgrass, Mary Jae and Carol Morrow.
McIntyre was born in Chicago on March 12, 1918, to Mary Murphy and Patrick James McIntyre. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of captain after 30 years of service.
He had been a resident of Alpine since 1993, and is survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. All are invited to attend a gathering following the service at the home of Carol and Mo Morrow.

Sotelo
Maria Granado Sotelo, 87, died Sunday, Aug 29, 2004, at an Abilene medical center.
Funeral mass was held Sept 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Santiago officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sotelo was born in Hot Springs, Texas, on March 20, 1917. She married Victor M. Sotelo, Jr. in 1942 in Terlingua. During their marriage, the couple lived in Marathon, Fort Stockton and Monahans, and in Abilene, for 27 years.
Mrs. Sotelo was preceded in death by her three sons, Roul Corrales, Oscar Corrales, and Ramon G. Sotelo; two daughters, Alicia Corrales and Ortencia Corrales; and her late husband, Victor M. Sotelo, Jr.
She is survived by three sons, Jesus G. Corrales of Midland, Alberto G. Sotelo of Monahans and Abelardo G Sotelo of Abilene; two daughters, Eulalia Lomas of Tye, and Guadalupe S Box of Abilene; one brother, Arturo Granado of Midland; four sisters, Francisca Sotelo of Bakersfield, Calf, Theodora Garcia of Marathon, and Ramona Ortiz and Luz Sanchez, both of Midland; 28 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ray Sanchez, Rene Box, Victor Sotelo, Eddie Sotelo, David Corrales and Enrique Miranda.
Gonzalez
Faviola "Fevi" Gonzalez passed peacefully Sept. 29, 2004 at her home. She was born and raised in Alpine to Maria Francisca "Paquita" Natera Gonzalez and Roman Gonzalez on May 30, 1926.
She traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. She lived in several states as a young woman and came back to live permanently in Alpine when her first granddaughter was born. When her last grandson was born in Arlington, she moved there briefly to care for him.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt, mother, grandmother and friend. She knew people of all walks of life, was a licensed cosmetologist, professional dance instructor, stenographer, business woman, entrepreneur and political activist. In her later years, she became the caretaker of her parents and uncle. She will be remembered most as a professional, loving grandmother, or "Wella."
Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Clark Rodriguez and her husband, Jose Rodriguez, of Alpine, and Nila Chris Martin and her husband, Ralph Ilaria of Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Dina Baeza and Sarah Baeza of Alpine, Willie Rodriguez of Lansford, Penn., Marco Rodriguez and Jacob Rodriguez of Alpine; Gray Ilaria and Gabrielle Ilaria of Olathe, Kan.; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Rodriguez, Kamille Baeza, Ellene Rodriguez, Shyla Baeza, Allanah Baeza and Matias Baeza; and one sister, Hortencia Cadena of El Paso.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Roman Gonzalez, Jr.; parents, "Paquita" and Roman Gonzalez; and sister, Elva Gallego.
Memorial services were held at Geeslin Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 1. Mass was held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Oct. 2.
Boyd
John Robinson Boyd, Jr., 83, of Alpine, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, in an Odessa hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 6, at First Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Zimmer officiating. Burial followed at Elm Grove Cemetery. Geeslin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Boyd was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Fort Stockton to Phylena Angeline and John Robinson Boyd. He was a World War II Army veteran. He had a bachelor's degree in business and was a retired USDA employee. He was a resident of Alpine for many years.
He is survived by his wife, June Patton Boyd of Alpine; four daughters, Becky Leaf of Lubbock, Roxy Sandidge of Tarpley, and Donna Yadon and Bobby Sledge, both of Alpine; two sisters, Mary Margaret Morris of Midland and Phylena Carlton of Alpine; two brothers, D.J. Boyd of Gonzales and Wesley Boyd of Monahans; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
