MAE HOLCOMB

Miss Mae HOLCOMB, 72, of Frankston, died Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. in a Jacksonville hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral service are scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Frankston, with the Rev Billie B. Bonner and the Rev, Louie Barron officiating.

Burial will be in the Frankston City Cemetery....

Miss Holcomb was born March 5, 1900 in Frankston to J.C. Holcomb and Mrs. Ella Morgan Holcomb.

A Resident of Frankston most of her life, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She attended Frankston schools and San Marcos College and taught school in Anderson County for many years.

Before retiring, she managed a variety store in Frankston.

Survivors include one sister, Miss Carrie Holcomb of Frankston, nieces & Nephews....

J. T. JONES

J.T. JONES of Kilgore, a former longtime resident of Palestine, died at 6:40 a.m. today in a local hospital following a lingering illness. He was 79.

Funeral service are to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Hassell & Foster Chapel here with the Rev Ernest Pankhurst officiating. Burial will follow in Land Of Memory Cemetery.....

A native and longtime resident of Anderson County, Mr. Jones was born Dec 31, 1892, a son of the late Silas Jones and Mrs. Rhumina Hill Jones. He was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a flagman prior to retiring about 20 years ago and was a member of the Baptist Church.

At the time of his death, he was making his home at 408 Sabone St. in Kilgore....

Mr. Jones is survived by his widow, Mrs. Daisy Jones of Kilgore; Four sons, Edward J. Jones and William Jones, both of Palestine, Charles E. Jones of Lake Providence, LA. and Herman Jones of Dallas; Eight daughters, Mrs. Frank (Earlene) Fletcher and Mrs. Bill (Darlene) Harrison, both of Palestine, Mrs. Jimmie (Frances) LaFitte of Conroe, Mrs. Carl (Sadie) Long of Lake Charles, LA., Mrs. Ray (Betty) Arnett of Arlington, Mrs. Fred R. (Mattie Maude) Carr of Lockport, Ill., Mrs. Cecil (Shirley) Baker of Longview, and Mrs. M.W. (Jimmie Pearl) Dicky of Thibodeaux, La; Three stepchildren, Mrs. J.R (Dorothy) Thompson of New London, Mrs. Doris Campbell of Kilgore and Mrs. Mrs. B. O. Griffin of Kilgore; 36 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren; A brother, Ora Jones of Conroe; Three sisters, Mrs. John (Fannie) Bassett of Palestine, Mrs. Sally Baty and Mrs. Hattie Minike of Houston....

BOWEN GAMBRELL

Bowen W. GAMBRELL, 77, of 1534 E. Palestine Ave., died early this morning in a local hospital following a sudden illness.

Funeral service are pending and will be announced later by Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Gambrell was born near Brushy creek and was a member of Memorial Christian Church. He had been a car salesman for 55 years, and at the time of his death, was employed by Moore Motor Company.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Draple Grambrell; Two sons, Melvin B. Grambell and Leo C. Grambrell, both of Palestine; One daughter, Mrs. R.A. Cross of Fort Worth; Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; Two brothers, Herman Gambrell And Broyles Gambrell, both of Palestine and three sisters, Mrs. Jesse Brown and Mrs. Pearl Morrow, both of Palestine and Mrs. Roy Bishop of Dallas

Albert H. RICH, 73, of 7203 Epps, Houston, formally of Route 1, Percilla, died suddenly early Monday afternoon while visiting with friends in Pasadena.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Muse Baptist Church.... Burial will be in The Muse Cemetery....

Mr. Rich was born September 25, 1898 to Jesse P. Rich and Mrs. Susie Lewis Rich. He was a farmer and a member of the Muse Baptist Church. For the past 20 years, he had made his home in Houston.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Melba Rich; A son, Albert H. Rich, Jr. of Houston; One daughter, Mrs. N.R. (Iiazel) Averitte, Of Palestine, three brothers, John Rich of Willis, Joe Rich of Grapeland, and Lewis Rich of Palestine....

Euel N. ALSOBROOK, 78, of Slocum, died this morning at 8:15 Am. in a local hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral service will be held sometime Friday in Hassell & Foster Chapel and burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, near Slocum....

Mr. Alsobrook was born in Cale, Ark on May 12, 1894, to Thomas Oscar Alsobrook and Mrs Carrie White McDaniel Alsobrook, and had resided in Slocum since a small child.

A member of the Sand Flat Missionary church, he was a merchant, carpenter and farmer prior to retiring. He was married to the former Clara Gilmore, 56 years ago.

Survivors include his widow. Mrs. Clara Gilmore Alsobrook of Slocum; Three brothers, Edwin Alsobrook and Tom Caro Alsobrook, both of Denson Springs, and Marvin Alsobrook of Slocum; Three sisters, Mrs. A.J. (Nuta) Johnson of Palestine, Mrs. Ernest (Zetta) Day and Mrs. Elsie Haltom, both of Slocum...

Mrs. Branch was born in Anderson County, the daughter of the late James M. and Lula Cromwell Delany. She was a retired teacher and a Baptist.

Mrs. Sally Hughes MORGAN, 83, of Marshall, formally of Palestine, died in a hospital there Saturday.

Funeral service were to be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Colonial Chapel of Sullivan Funeral home at Marshall with DR. Jester White officiating.

Burial will be in Algoma Cemetery in Marshall...

Mrs. Morgan was born in Palestine Jan 26 1889 to William McClanahan and Betty Stern McClanahan. She moved to Marshall in 1910 and was owner-operator of the Morgan Hotel there for 10 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac C. Morgan Sr., in 1942.

Survivors include : One son, Alvin Morgan, Jr. of Marshall; Three grandchildren; One great-granddaughter; Two sisters, Mrs. W.L. (Lucille) Blount and Mrs. A. B. (Lorrine) Beck both of Fort Worth....

Mrs, Jewel Berry, 81, of Palestine, died Thursday in a local hospital following a long illness.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev Lloyd L. Giles officiating. A Rebekah service will follow....

Lifelong resident of Palestine, Mrs. Berry was born 20 March 1891, the daughter of the late Jim White and Nancy Shaid White. Member of the First United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge. She was the widow of George Austin Berry, who died on Dec 1, 1954, Prior to retiring, she was a part time employee of the Anderson County Tax Office.

Survivors include: A sister, Mrs. W.C. (Mamie) Norris of Apple Valley, California, Nieces & Nephews.... She was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin White, SR. and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Jenkins and Mrs. Ruby Hale.....

Miss Holcomb was born October 11, 1897 in Anderson County, a daughter of the late J.C. Holcomb and Mrs. Ella Morgan Halcomb. She died Friday in a Tyler Hospital following a long illness.

Prior to retiring in 1962, Miss Holcomb had 45 years of service with Missouri Pacific railroad, having worked in Palestine, Houston and Dallas offices.....Since her retirement she has made her home in Frankston.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.....

MRS. W. R. DURNELL

Mrs. W. R. DURNELL, 86, of 211 Main, White deer, former longtime resident of Elkhart, died at 6:35 am today in her home following a long illness.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Elkhart, with the Rev. Horace Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in the Antrim Cemetery, near Elkhart. ....

Mrs. Durnell, the former Emily Jane Hopper, was born July 23, 1886 in Sherman to Millard Fillmore Hopper and Mrs. Caldonia Miller Hopper. She was the widow of the Rev. W.R. Durnell, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart, who preceded her in death in August 1949. Before moving to White Deer in 1970, she was an Elkhart resident for over 50 years and had lived in Waco for four years.

Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Joe Seitz of White Deer, Mrs. Ray Baker of Skellytown, Mrs. James L. Fisher, Mrs. Joe Anderson, Mrs. Quinn Lansford, all of Houston, Mrs. Frank Hennen of wylie, and Mrs. Alice Morris of Brownsville, TN; One brother, Watson Hopper of Chico, Calif. One sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hayden of Palestine; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Frank FREEMAN, 73, of Frankston, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday in a Jacksonville hospital after a short illness.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev J.A. Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Dabbs Cemetery in Frankston.

Mr. Freeman, a retired carpenter and farmer was born October 29 1898 to Abner Freeman and Mrs. Beulah Bostic Freeman. A lifelong resident of Anderson County, he was a member of the Baptist church of Frankston.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Annie Freeman of Frankston; Three sons, J.P. Freeman of Sequin, John H. Freeman of Eunice, La. and Louis Freeman of Jefferson; Three daughters, Mrs. Maxine Richards of Dry Prong, La. Mrs. Ruth Helen Boles of Frankston, and Mrs. Barbara McCafferty of Crowley, La.: One Sister, Mrs. Ethel Martin, Dallas. 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren...

Mrs. Bedre, the former Martha Selime Nessour, was born February 22, 1895 in Morgan City, LA. to Monsour Nessour and Mrs. Mary Farris Nessour. A resident of Palestine since 1914, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the widow of Ed Bedre, Sr. longtime Palestine shoe shop operator, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1965.

Survivors include three sons, Ed Bedre, JR. and Jack Bedre, both of Palestine and Raymond Bedre of Aransas Pass; Two daughters, Mrs. Winston (Helen) Bullard of Palestine and Mrs. C.B. )Inez) Goodwin of Wortham, One brother, Mitchell Nessour of Port Arthur; Two sisters, Mrs. Christine Mayad of Houston and Mrs. Eva Walton of Dallas; Seven grandchildren; Nine great-grandchildren....

Eugene Davis DOBBS, 71, of Dallas, a native of Palestine, died Tuesday night while visiting in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the graveside in New Addition Cemetery with the Rev. Lloyd Giles officiating.....

Mr. Dobbs was born 3 Nov 1899 in Palestine to Charles E. Dobbs and Mrs. Myrtle Davis Dobbs.

He was a veteran of World War I and retired three years ago as district manager for Gray Rock Asbestos Brake Lining Company of Evanston, Ill.

He was a graduate of Palestine High School and attended University Of Texas at Austin.

He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jessie Mae Dobbs of Dallas; One son, Dr. Charles Eugene Dobbs of Houston; Two Brothers, Marcus Dobbs of Salem, Ore., And Charles W. Dobbs of of Houston ; One sister, Mrs. John M. ( Natalie) Elrod of Palestine; Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren...

Funeral service for Mrs. Ara B. COLLINS, 83, who died Thursday in Tennessee Colony Union Church with the Rev. R.C. Terry and the Rev. W.R. Miller officiating, Burial will be in Tennessee Colony Cemetery.....

Mrs. Collins was a native of Tennessee Colony and had live most of her life in Anderson County. She was born 17 June 1889 to E. T. and Guida Hanks Shelton, and was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the T.E.L. Class. Mrs. Collins was a former school teacher and a former post mistress at Tennessee Colony. Her great grandfather, the Rev. Thomas Hanks, was one of the early settlers in Tennessee Colony... She was preceded in death by her husband on December 23. 1958

Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Paul Stewart, of Fort Worth, Mrs. C. L. Carrol of Tennessee Colony, Mrs E.C. Owen of Houston and Mrs. Bobby Wright of Dallas. Eleven grandchildren; Five great-grandchildren; Two brothers, Guy G. Shelton of Palestine and Clifton Shelton of Taft, California; And two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Marlow of Palestine and Mrs. Clovis (Marie) Neff of Porter, Okla.

VETERAN PAPER EMPLOYEES DIES (Picture)

John R. YARBROUGH, SR.; former longtime employee of the Palestine Herald Press, died at 3:15 Thursday in a local hospital...He was 74.

Mr. Yarbrough was born October 18, 1898, in Trinity, a son of the late DR. Sam Houston Yarbrough and Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Davis Yarbrough.

A resident of Palestine since 1921, he retired in 1967 after 44 years employment as a printer for the Herald Press....
He served in World War 1.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday...Burial in Roselawn Cemetery...

Mr. Yarbrough is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nannie Frazier Yarbrough of Palestine; One son, John Yarbrough, JR. of Palestine; Two daughters, Mrs. Fritz (Dorothy) Rothermel of Houston, and Mrs. Gerald (Johnnie) Hinson of Grapeland; Two brothers, J.D. Yarbrough of Fort Worth and Loyd Houston Yarbrough, Harlingen, Two sisters, mrs. P.W.
