MRS. J.W. LEWIS

Mrs. J.W. (Frankie) LEWIS, a resident of the Pert Community of Anderson County for more than half a century, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday in a Palestine hospital following a brief illness. She was 92.

Funeral service are to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Neches, with the Rev. Olen Cantrell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Neches Cemetery....

Mrs. Lewis, the former Miss Frances Dianne IVINS, was born December 5, 1877 in Caddo Parish, La., a daughter of the late Bill Ivins and Mrs. Henretta Russell Ivins.

She was a member of the Baptist Church of Neches.

She is survived by her husband, J.W. Lewis of Pert; Four sons, Vaden Lewis of Pert, Revis Lewis of Shreveport, Elton Lewis of Washington, D.C.; Two daughters, Mrs. Jake (Jessie) Lively of Pasadena, and Mrs. Cammie Hammack of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

J.L. HUDDLESON

J.L. (Lude) HUDDLESON, 85, of the Middle Crickett Road, Route 1, Palestine, died Thursday at 4 p.m. in a local nursing home following an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Rubel Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Ferguson Cemetery.

Native and life long resident of Anderson County, Mr. Huddleson was born in Palestine Jan 16, 1882 to the late Alex and Sarah Goodwin Huddleson.

He was retired farmer and a member of the Fields Chapel United Methodist Church.

His wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Bridges Huddleson, died on Aug 23 1961.

Survivors include four sons, Marcus A. Huddleson of Palestine, William and Rex Arnold of Houston, Stanford Huddleson of Alamagordo, N.M. Three daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Joy) Jolisant of Palestine, Mrs. A,D. (Elois) Matthews, of Channelview, and Mrs. Warfield (Flossie Mae) Gregory of Homestead, FL; Two brothers, R.S. Huddleson, and C.M. Huddleson, both of Palestine, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews...

Mrs. John F. (Coy) REEDER, 84, of 519 North Magnolia Street, Palestine, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in a local hospital, following a long illness.

Funeral service will be held at 2: p.m. Monday in the First Union Methodist Church, Buffalo, with the Rev Larry Grubbs and the Rev. Otis Felton officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo City Cemetery.....

Mrs. Reeder was born Sept. 28, 1886 in Leon county, daughter of the late John C. Nash and Tallulah Crabb Nash.......

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lucille O'Brien, Palestine, Mrs. Bess Kelly, Houston, Mrs. Nettie Mae Davis and Mrs. Ruth Moore, both of Freeport; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren....

S.F. (Sam) Scarborough, 85, of Tennessee Colony, died today at 6:15 a.m. in a local hospital following an illness of several months.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Tennessee Colony Union Church with the R.C. Terry officiating, Burial will be on the Tennessee Colony Cemetery with members of Tyre Masonic Lodge No. 198, Tennessee Colony, in charge at the graveside....

Mr. Scarbrough was born in Tennessee Colony on Aug 1, 1885 to the late Robert Perry Scarbrough and Lizzie Bell Faris Scarbrough. Resident of Tennessee Colony most of his life......

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Ova Hudson, Tennessee Colony, a number of nieces & nephews.

FLOYD FOSTER

Floyd Foster, 78 of Route 1, Elkhart, died Monday at 3:15 p.m. in a local hospital following a long illness.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Muse Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Fletcher and the Rev W.C. Littleton officiating.

Burial will be in the Muse Cemetery....

Lifelong resident of Anderson County, Mr. Foster was born November 30, 1892 to the late John Foster and Mrs. Merritt Foster.

A retired farmer, he spent most of his life in the Hickory Grove Community before moving to Elkhart seven years ago.

He was a Baptist and during WW 1, he served in the US Army.

Survivors include six sisters, Misses Johnnie and Ila Foster, both of Elkhart, Mrs. Ada Wallace and Mrs. Ida McGahey of Dallace, Mrs. Ava Turner of Kingsland, and Mrs. Coleman Woods of San Angelo, several nieces and nephews.

Frank SHATTEL, 78, 1315 Tennessee Ave, died this morning in his home.

Funeral service are scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev E.J, Brumleu officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park....

Mr. Schattel was born Sept. 12, 1892 in Belton, Texas to the late Joseph I. Schattel and Mrs. Louisa Stach Schettel. During WW 1, he served in the National Army of the United States. Resident of Palestine since 1941...Prior to retiring in 1963, he was a machine operator for Glass Containers Corporation, having begun his employment in 1941.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Alice Dolezal Schattel, Palestine; Two sons, Lee and Walter Schattel, both of Big Spring; A sister, Mrs. Julia Murphy of Freeport, Ill.; Two grandchildren, Mrs. Sharon Bailey and Martin Schattel both of Big Spring.

GREEN WYLIE

Green Lawrence WHYLIE, 70, of the Miller Community, Route 3, died at 1:30 a.m. today in a Texas City hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m. and burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, Brushy Creek....The body will be at the residence.

Mr. Wylie was born 26 Aug 1900, Anderson County to the late Oran L. Wylie and Mrs. Lenora Scarborough Wylie. Before retiring, he was a boilermaker. He spent most of his lefe in Anderson County and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Annie Lou Hilton Wylie. on 34 April 1947.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Weldon (Clara) Holcomb of Texas City; A sister, Mrs. J.R.G. Williams of Tennessee Colony; Two grandsons...

MRS. TEMPE BROYLES

Mrs. Tempe BROYLES, 82, died at 11:30 a.m. in a local nursing home. Funeral Service are scheduled for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Bailey Memorial Chapel with DR. R.L. Badgett officiating. Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Broyles is a life long resident of Palestine, was born Dec 29, 1886 in Palestine, to Conrad and Alice Barnes Perry. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Broyles, on 1958. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert R. Broyles; Two daughters, Mrs. W.M. Presley and Mrs. Frank Glen, all of Palestine, and nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Pickle was born in Navarro County on Aug 7, 1882, to the late Beryl & Mary Taylor Bradley. She was a member of the Church Of Christ and had been a resident of Palestine for some eight years.

James Milton GRAY, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of Elkhart, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 77.

Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery at Elkhart......

Mr. Gray was born in Anderson County on Nov. 11, 1893, a son of the late James Henry Gray and Mrs. Florence Newsom Gray.

He is survived by his Widow, Mrs. Hattie Gray of Elkhart; Three Sons, Clyde M. Gray of Midway, Earl W. Gray of Monroe, LA.; A daughter, Mrs. Foster (Iva) Quick of Elkhart, a sister, Mrs, Callie Coleman of Elkhart, a half brother, Foster Gray of Palestine, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Biehler, the former Ruby Peck, was the daughter of the late Arthur Walton Peck and Mrs. Mary Frances Nelson Peck, she was born on Crockett, and has been a resident of Palestine for the past thirty years. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church.

Mr. Barthel was born January 31, 1890 in Emporia, Kansas to the late Henry F. Barthel and Mrs. Sarah Winteroth Berthel. Resident of Palestine sinse age one, he was a retired farmer and a Methodist. During WW 1, he served on the Field Artillery from Feb 23, 1918 until June 16, 1919. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Belle Douthit Barthel....

Survivors include one son, Floyd F. Barthel of Palestine; One brother, E.J. Barthel, Palestine, two granddaughters....

DICK HOYT

John Flecher (Dick) HOYT, retired Missouri Pacific Railroad locomotive engineer, died at 2 a.m. Saturday at his home, 904 Lamar St., following a lengthy illness. He was 77.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bailey Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Fancher officiating. Burial will follow in the New Addition Cemetery witha Masonic service at graveside.....

Mr. Hoyt, a native of Hearne, was born 14 Dec 1894, a son of the late W.S. Hoyt and Melissa McWilliams Hoyt.

During WW 1, he served in the US Army. At the time he retired from the railroad, he had some 45 years of service. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, The Palestine Masonic Lodge, The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the United Trainmen Union.

Mr. Hoyt had made his home in Palestine for some 40 years.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruby Seagler Hoyt, a daughter, Mard Jack (Nedra) Rouqemire of Palestine; Two grandsons... two brothers, W.S. Hoyt, JR., of Hearne; and Three Sisters, Mrs. Wilford Pringle of Arlington, Mrs. Vivian Gunn of Fort Worth and Mrs. Willene Willis of Giddings.

Mrs. Vaughn was born June 27, 1892 on Ladonia, Fannin County, A daughter, of the late E.B. Finklea and Mrs. Carrie Hollon Finklea. Before moving to Palestine in 1951 she resided in Winnsboro and Canton and was the widow of Lynn Vaughn, who preceded her in death on August 10, 1969.

Survivors include one son, Joe Vaughn of Cayuga; Four sisters, Mrs. J.A. (Ethel) McQuillin of Palestine, Mrs. B.W. (Bertha) Brown of Winnsboro, Mrs. B.F. (Lillian) Fuller of Luling, and Mrs. C.L. (Louise) VanHooser of Athens, LA (sic): three grandchildren...... And four great-grandchildren...

Funeral Service for Frank C. WILEY, who died early Friday at his home in Jacksonville, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Bailey Memorial Chapel here with the Rev. Don Meador officiating.

Burial will follow in The New Addition Cemetery.....There will be a Masonic service at graveside.

A native of Palestine, Mr. Wiley was born April 17, 1890, a son of the late Thomas Andrew Wiley and Mrs. Ella Bailey Wiley. He was 81.

He had made his home in Jacksonville for some 16 years, having retired as a machinist with Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1947 after some 35 years service

A member of the Methodist Church, Mr. Wiley was also a Mason and was a veteran of Worls War I. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Wiley, JR., in 1957.

Survivirs include his widow, the former Miss Nancy Ann Atkisson, one daughter, Mrs. John Grant of Chicago, IL; A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Franklin; And two Grandchildren....

(Billie) Morris of Palestine; Two sisters, Mrs. Ada Dilord of Irving and Mrs. Ophelia Thompson of Waco, eight grandchildren; Two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was born in Palestine, a daughter of the late Oscar Conaway and Mrs. Florence Murdock Conaway. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Fitzgerald's husband, J. F. Fitzgerald, preceded her in death in 1967.

She is survived by two sons, Henry Milton Gaines of Palestine and Link Gaines of Stafford; Four daughters, Mrs. Eva Lee Stobbs of Palestine, Mrs. Lina Mae Larson of New Port, Minnesota, Mrs. Goldie Elizabeth Loftus of Co. Springs, CO., and Mrs. Verna Estelle Brady of Rosenberg; 28 grandchildren and 73 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great Grandchildren.
