Obe CHILDRESS, old time resident of Anderson County, died in Wellington, TX. Tuesday, according to advise received here Wednesday. The body is being shipped to his former home at Blackfoot and funeral services will be held from the Old Rock Church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
( Next day's paper said, he was father of Mrs. Lula Sadler of Blackfoot, former Anderson County school superintendent and Mrs. Effie and Zeffie Childress; Two sons, Grady of Blackfoot and john Childress of Oakwood.)

Edward GUNNING, 62, former foundry worker at the George F. Dilley & Sons Foundry Works, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 9 a.m. Wednesday at his home, 615 DeBard Street, after a lingering illness.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the home of Miss Kate Gunning, 619 West Oak Street....Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
A Native of Missouri, Mr. Gunning moved to Palestine when a young man, and for more than 20 years was employed as a metal molder in the Dilly Plant. He is survived by his wife, 2 sisters, Miss Kate Gunning and Mrs. Mollie Frink and one brother, W.H. Gunning, all of Palestine....

DR HENRY BARTON
FORMER LOCAL DOCTOR DIES IN OKLAHOMA
February 12, 1936
DR. Henry BARTON, brother of Attorney A.M. Barton and farmer practicing physician here, died suddenly at his home on McAllister, Okla. Tuesday.
He moved to Oklahoma from Palestine about 25 years ago. For a time he was associated in the medical profession, with DR. A.L. Hathcock and later was associated with the late R.H. Jordan on the Palestine Hardware CO. He was married to Miss Annie Jordan, who died a few years ago.
DR. Barton had enjoyed a successful practice of his profession at McAllister, where he had been located continuously since moving from Palestine.
MR. & Mrs. A, M. Barton and daughter, Mrs. Moses Rogers, went to Oklahoma to attend the funeral/

MRS. MOLLIE THOMPSON

Mrs. Mollie THOMPSON, 85, a resident of Montalba for more than 25 years, died rather suddenly at 1 a.m. Thursday at her home. She recently had been in ill health.
Funeral services were scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Montalba.
Mrs. Thompson had lived all her life in Texas. She was able to be up Wednesday night and chatted with relatives, Her husband, the late T.J, Thompson, died 2 years ago.
Survivors are two sons, Jim Thompson of Palestine and Dennis Thompson, living on the Montalba highway; Four daughters, Mrs. Ira G. Cook of Palestine, Mrs. Dean Muse of Mineola, Mrs. Frank Welch and Mrs Ada Dorman, both of Anderson County......

Terrell: 12 Feb. - W.H. CADE, 50, local freight agent for Texas & Pacific railroad since 1931, died here from a bullet wound in his hand onfected yesterday, Cade told the hospital he fired the shot. but had no reason.

Tom Scott DAVIS, 84 tears, 11 months and 13 days, said to be Palestine oldest living native, died at his home, 1102 North Sycamore Street at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, after a brief illness. Death was attributed to infirmities of old age.
Mr. Davis whose motto was "Never buy anything unless you can pay cash for it" is the owner of numerous business properties in Palestine and Elkhart and formerly owned other business houses in Oakwood.
He accumulated the properties through savings from a modest salary of $50. Per month during 23 years that he worked as a pumper for the International Great Northern Railroad and from wise investments and trades.
Davis is believed to have been the first white man born in what is now the city limits of Palestine.
At the time of his death, Mr. Davis was the owner of the White House Cafe building and fixtures on Spring Street, The Dublin Market Building, H.C. Williams Grocery Building, The Courthouse Drug Building, all located on the West side of the Courthouse Square......
Tom S. Davis was born in a house, which has long since disappeared and which was located on East Lacy Street......
As a boy, he assisted his father, Randle Davis, pioneer house painter in painting some of the first residences and businesses on Palestine....
Mrs. Luella Davis, who has been her husband's faithful companion for 61 years, was reported ill of heart trouble Wednesday night and will be unable to attend the funeral....
Survivors are two sons, DR. W.E. Davis of Elkhart and Charles O. Davis, Old Town merchant; One daughter, Mrs. DR. E.B. Stokes of Crockett, a half sister, Mrs. Jim Stevens of Palestine....

MOTHER OF LOCAL DOCTOR DEAD

Mrs. W. F. CONVERSE, 75, mother of DR. E.V. Converse, local Physician, died at her home, 308 West Reagan Street, 10:15 p.m. Thursday after a brief illness. Mrs. Converse was stricken Wednesday night.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church....Burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Converse was reared at Biloxi, Miss. Her husband, the late W. F. Converse, died several years ago. Mrs. Converse had made her home in Palestine since 1882.
Survivors include her son, DR. F.V. Converse, a niece, Mrs. J .E. Langly and a nephew, John L. Carson, all of Palestine....

Mrs. EULA EZELL

Mrs. Eula EZELL, member of Palestine's earliest and most prominent families, a native of Anderson County and active in social work on Palestine for many years, died in the Palestine Sanitarium at 4 a.m. Friday, after a brief illness of about 10 days.
It is announced that funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from the home of her brother, P. B. Ezell, 901 Cedar Street.....
Born near Neches, Miss Ezell was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. W. Ezell, pioneer resident of Anderson County and for many years identified with the early business life of the city. She was a descendant of an illustrious line of ancestors, among the families being, Valentine, Lee, Ingram and King.
She was a life-long member of the First Methodist Church, in her quite unobtrusive way, she was known to have done much charity work....
She was a member of the Daughters Of The American Revolution and at the time of her death was Chapter Librarian and Chairman of the Ellis Island Committee.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Laliah Ezell Ritner of Kansas City, Mo,; One brother, P. B. Ezell of Palestine.....

Funeral service will be held in Jacksonville Sunday for the Rev. Mr. Hubert A. ALLEN, 39, Pastor of the Union Congressional Church of Chattanooga, Tenn. who died suddenly from a heart attack.
The Rev. Mr. Allen, son of Mrs. W.R. Allen of Palestine, is well know here.... He was a brother of Mrs. Maurice Titty and Jim Allen, all of Palestine.
Funeral services will be held at 2: 30 p.m. from the Jacksonville Methodist Church....
The pastor is survived by his wife, two sons, Charles A. & Hubert Allen, JR.; Mother, Mrs. Allen; Three brothers, Jim Allen of Palestine, Russell Allen of Henderson, and Joe Allen of Kemp; Three sisters, Mrs. Maurice Totty of Palestine, Mrs. Curtis McDonald of Dallas, and Mrs. Rich Tucker of Rusk.

She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Billy Welborn of Palestine and a cousin by marriage to Street Commissioner, Albert W. Elrod.

Mrs. Maggie COKER, 66, resident of Palestine for 40 years, died at 6:20 a.m. Monday at her home, 1104 Conrad Street, after an illness of four weeks from pneumonia and complications.
She was a member of the Grace Methodist Church and the local order of Eastern Star....
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grace Methodist Church....Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Coker was born in Houston, but moved to Palestine 40 years ago. She is survived by three sons, Walter Clifford and Erol Coker of Palestine; Two daughters, Mrs. B.F. Massiey and Mrs. Joe..? of Palestine....

Burial rites for Emmett L. Turner, 64. One of the oldest conductors in service on the entire Missouri Pacific systems, were held Sunday afternoon from the home, 119 West Kolstead Street....
Mrs. Turner died Friday Night in Missouri Pacific Hospital. He was in service of the International - Great Northern since 1890, he joined the company in Houston.

Mrs. Will Rogers, died at 6 p.m. Monday in her home, 520 South Magnolia Street, after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Centerville at 2 p.m. Thursday....Burial was in the Centerville Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, well known local man employed by the W. B. Flanagan Store here. She is survived by a son, Billy Rogers, Mother, Mrs. J.W. Funeral services were held in Jacksonville for three persons killed Sunday when their car was struck and demolished by the Missouri Pacific Sunshine Special at Troup.
Mr. & Mrs. Jim GOURLEY, died instantly. Their three year old daughter died later from her injuries.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Mount Calm, Texas for Mrs. Laura COKER, 73, of Todd City, who died Monday Morning from Pneumonia and complications after an illness of three weeks.
Brief services at the Todd City residence with the Rev. Mr. A. J. Richey, pastor of the Palestine Evangelistic Temple officiating.
She is survived by five sons, J. B. Coker of Mart, J. H. Coker of Troup, Claude Coker of Neches, P.M. Coker of Shreveport and rod A. Coker of Seguin; Four daughters, Mrs. J, C. Sartor of Mount Calm, Mrs. Florence Crawford of Maxwell, California, Mrs. John Hawthorn of Kilgore and Mrs., B. A. Mcgee of Todd City.
Mrs. Coker had made her home with Mrs. Magee at Todd City for 15 years....

SUICIDE BLAMED ON DEATH
February 19, 1936
Suicide by a Negro, an almost unheard of thing in Dixieland, apparently occurred near Palestine in the dim hours of the dawn Wednesday.
Walter DAVIS, about 35, milker and helper on the Carl Naehritz dairy farm, a mile north of Palestine, who had been questioned in connection with theft of chickens from Naehritz hen house, apparently tied a hangman's knot around his neck with a lariat rope and strangled to death hanging from a huge red oak tree 400 yards east of the dairy barn......
Scrawled in pencil on a piece of pink paper, a note found in the Negro's pocket, indicated he had taken his life to escape possible persecution. The note read in part " I have told the trueth (sic) every time I was asked for it, so I am writing willing to die on the truth."......

Mrs. Lookabeaugh was a widow. She is survived by two sons, F. W. Carter of Western Oklahoma and Ray Lookabaugh of near Neches; Three daughters, Mrs. R....Monk of Nacogdoches, Miss Hope Lookabeaugh and Mrs. Glen W. Carter of route one, Neches; One sister, Mrs. F. C. Hoffman of Fort Worth.
Mrs. Lookabeaugh was a native of Pennsylvania, And had resided near Todd City for about 25 years....

John Robert TIPPEN, 71, well known farmer of the Elemwood community, died at Palestine sanitarium Tuesday at 3 p.m. from Peritonitis following an operation for removal of his appendix ten days ago.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch Cemetery.
Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. HC Hardman and Miss Nan Tippen of Elemtown....
MR. Tippen was a native of Elemtown and had lived virtually all his life in that community...

BABY IS FOUND DEAD SHORTLY ADTER NURSING

Mr. & Mrs. Alvis MILLIGAN, living 3 miles South of Slocum, got out of bed Thursday Morning leaving their infant girl, age five weeks in bed.
When Mrs. Milligan returned from preparing breakfast, she found the baby dead.
The child was nursed and apparently well before it was left alone in bed...

James A. THOMAS, 63, for 11 years an employee of IGN Paint shop, was found dead in bed early Friday Morning at his home, five miles from Palestine on the Elkhart Highway....
Death was attributed to a heart attack.
The funeral cortege will leave Bailey Undertaking CO. at 1 p.m. Saturday and services will be held at 2 p.m. at Grapeland.....
