Hazel Carlton, 99, of Baytown was born April 26, 1903 in Crowley, LA and passed away Sunday, January 26, 2003 in a local nursing home. She was a member of the Assembly of God faith.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. John Hatcher officiating.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carroll Gigout and son-in-law, William Love and is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Love of Highlands; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Sharon Gigout of Mont Belvieu and Joseph A. and Robbie Gigout of Mont Belvieu; sisters, Bertha Hanks of Baytown and Grace Wilburn of Mont Belvieu; daughter-in-law, Barbra Gigout of Mont Belvieu, 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 44 great great grandchildren.

Thelma B. “Me-Ma” Smith, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2003. She was born on December 14, 1916, in Lexington, Texas. She was a resident of Highlands for 65 years. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church. Me-Ma enjoyed being with her family, cooking, and taking care of her many flowers.
She was preceded in death by Lester Smith, her husband of 65 years, her parents, M.Z. and Theresa Browder, a sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Woodrow Swick and brothers-in-law, Wilber Smith and Oscar Smith.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Lois Smith of Baytown, Wayne and Peggy Smith of Crosby; six grandchildren and spouses: Teri Ashworth, Diane Adams and husband, Gary, Gary Smith and wife, Bridget, Karen Smith, Matt Smith and Kent Smith and wife Patricia; nine great-grandchildren: Sarah Adams, Kevin Adams, Payton Adams, Lacy Ashworth, Stefani Smith, Sean Smith, Nikole Smith, Shelby Smith, and Kendall Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law: Bernice and Jack Casey, Jean and Robert Welch; sister-in-law, Elvera Smith.
The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Earthman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 28, 2003 at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, with Pastor Larry Smith officiating.
Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens.

Alice Mae Haluska, 75, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Crosby and was a resident of the Crosby-Baytown area all her life.
She worked at Exxon as a clerical worker and also worked at Sears as an auditing supervisor. She was a member of the Crosby United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Haluska was a great cook and baker which was enjoyed by many friends. She enjoyed her church work where she taught children Sunday School and was on the bereavement committee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mollie Kosina; sister, Gladys Lostak; nieces Mollie Garner and Lynda Wiley and brother-in-law Douglas Wiley.
She is survived by her loving husband, Willie Lee Haluska; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Scott Walding of Baytown; grandson, Brian Remkes, great-granddaughter, Megan Alyse Remkes, sisters, Lorine Wiley, Frankie Brewer and husband Wilford; brother-in-law, Tommie Lostak; nieces and nephews, Lorenda and David Baldwin, Lee Wiley, Lonnie and Eloise Lostak, Regina and Tim Kelley, Harold and Risa Lostak; and Wayne Garner.

DORCAS J. BONHAM FRANCIS
Dorcas J. Bonham Francis passed away on January 23, 2003 after a long battle with cancer.
Dorcas, the only child of Robert and Bobbie Bonham, was born in Corpus Christi, TX in 1949. She is also survived by her only child, Nikki Francis and both were members of the Presbyterian church. She worked for Lyondell/Equistar Chemical for 23 years.
There will be no memorial service and in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Foundation.

HAZEL ROSA JOHNSTON
Hazel Rosa Johnston, 89, longtime resident of Baytown died Sunday, January 26, 2003 at Heartland Health Care Center at Willowbrook in Houston. Born on Dec. 21, 1913 in Saron, Texas, Johnston was a retired school teacher. She taught for more than 20 years as a first grade teacher in Highlands.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Navarre chapel.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Navarre's, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery.
She is survived by nieces Margaret Ottman and family, Martha and Hazel Leith McRae; and nephew Arthur Steven McRae and family; and brother-in-law William D. McRae.
She is preceded in death by husband, Arthur T. "Pete" Johnston; parents, William Alver Slagle and Anna Armata Slagle; sister, Fay Berkleyine Slagle McRae and brother Woodrow Slagle.
