BETTYE JORDAN
Services for Bettye Ann Solomon Jordan, 95, of Oakwood, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Lone Star Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of the funeral home.
Mrs. Jordan died Saturday at Palestine Healthcare Center. She was born in Freestone County on Nov. 14, 1907 to Colonious A. Love and Will K. Solomon.
She attended Lone Star Community School in Oakwood and St. Paul Training School in Malakoff.
She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church where she served as a charity committee chairperson, choir member and treasurer, usher, custodian and treasurer of the missionary society. She was a member of Red Oak Eastern Star Chapter #84 and secretary of the Lone Star Cemetery Association.
Mrs. Jordan married Albert Davis and later Sidney Lee Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her daughter, Drucilla Davis Tucker; five sisters, Ateic Solomon, Nellie Jackson, Theresa Washington, Ardelia Solomon and Easter Campbell; brothers, Quincy Lee Solomon and Rev. Monico Solomon.
Survivors include a daughter, Bennie Sandifer of Oakwood; four grandchildren; sisters, Rachel Garrett of Oakwood and Jellory Akins of Palestine.

BARBARA SMITH
Services for Barbara Smith, 55, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 1 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif. to Norman and Helen Bosbyshell Bennett.
Mrs. Smith was employed at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Gurney Unit.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Bennett.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Dave Smith of Tennessee Colony; her mother, Helen Bennett of Palestine; daughters, Laura Smith of Tennessee Colony and Dena Lincoln of Tyler; a son, William Smith of Hawaii; and three grandchildren.

ELLA JO BISHOP
Services for Ella Jo Bishop, 77, of Palestine, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Creek Cemetery near Elkhart with arrangements under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Bishop died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Tampa, Fla.
Mrs. Bishop had lived in Palestine since moving here in 1986 from Kingsville.
She was a retired food store manager.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by daughters, Jean Beall of Elkhart and Shirley Decker of Lake Jackson; brothers, Marvin McCracken, W.B. McCracken and Bill McCracken, all of Tampa; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FAY DEA MOORE HRNA
Services for Faye Dea Moore Hrna, 79, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mike Glen officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hrna died Thursday at her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Oakhurst, to Walter and Pearl Moore.
Mrs. Hrna moved to Palestine in 1972 from Santa Fe.
She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and a housewife. She was a member of SPJST Lodge for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton Hrna, in 1983.
Mrs. Hrna is survived by daughters, Charlene Hrna of Santa Fe and Shirley Hrna Williams of Caldwell; a brother, V.E. Moore of Palestine; sisters, Ruby Raines and Lois Johnson, both of Tucker; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services for Ilma Velma, 70, of Ricardo, were held Wednesday in Kingsville.
Mrs. Vela died Feb. 25 in a Corpus Christi hospital following an automobile accident.
She was a retired Westwood High School cafeteria supervisor.
Mrs. Vela is survived by her husband, Jose Vela Jr. of Ricardo; sons, Ramon Vela of Palestine and Omar Vela of Ricardo; daughters, Blanca Esparza of Palestine, Maria Barrientos of California, Nelda Villafuerte of California; a brother, Luis Canales of Palestine; sisters, Ilsa Garcia and Emelda Hinojosa, both of Palestine and Loida Flores of Nevada; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Erby Dee Mitchell
Services for Erby Dee Mitchell, 87, of Palestine will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crockett Road Church of Christ, with Dan Manuel officiating.
Burial will follow in Land of Memory Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mr. Mitchell died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Mitchell was born May 29, 1912, in Cherokee County, to John Henry and Clara Brown Mitchell.
He was a long-term employee of Missouri Pacific Railroad where he retired as a conductor.
He was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ.
Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Oleta Mitchell in 1992; son, Jimmy Ray Mitchell; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by daughter, Wanda Wilkinson of Palestine; sons, Darwin Mitchell and Wayne Mitchell, both of Palestine, and Robert Mitchell of Waco; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike Mitchell, Ronald Gregg Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Mike Wilkinson, Mark Wilkinson, Steve Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell and Ron McClain.
Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crockett Road Church of Christ or a charity of one’s choice.

JOYCE HOOSER
Services for Joyce Brittain Hooser, 70, of Palestine, were held today in Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Jeff Hastings and Gregory Megill officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Palestine at a later date.
She died Saturday at her residence.
Mrs. Hooser was born April 20, 1929, in Angelina County, to Otto and Ruth Jones Brittain.
She was retired from the University of Texas where she was employed as assistant to the dean.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palestine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hooser; and sister, Ruth Dixon.
Mrs. Hooser is survived by brothers, Joe Ed Brittain and Otto J. Brittain, both of Lufkin; sisters, Louise Lindsey and Patricia Brown, both of Lufkin, and Betty Jumper of Apple Springs; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Keith Brittain, Kim Brittain, Jay Brittain, Jody Brown, Ted Chinn and Paul Root.
Honorary pallbearer was Casey Beaird.
