ELBERT E. RICHARDS

Services for Elbert E. Richards, 87, of Palestine, will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Carl Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Richards died Saturday morning at Palestine Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1913, in Corsicana to Robert Lee Richards and Hattie Alva Coker Richards.

Mr. Richards was a Methodist. He was retired from the oil field as a switcher. He was owner-operator of a service station and auto air conditioner repair shop for many years after his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Perlia Pauline Richards.

Mr. Richards is survived by daughter Carolyn Greenwood of Del Valle; sons Bud Richards and Jerry Richards, both of Palestine, and Larry Richards of Elkhart; sisters Alva Baker and Vi Bruce, both of Mabank; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

IRMA BLACK

Services for Irma Black, 97, of Palestine and formerly of Rusk, will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk with Rev. James Jacobs of Jacksonville officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk.

Mrs. Black died Saturday at Palestine Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 6, 1903, to James Robert Smith and Linnie Keen Smith.
Mrs. Black was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Rusk. She was retired from Rusk State Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy M. “Boots” Black; siblings Terrell Smith, Elwin Smith, Carter Smith, Birdette Smith, Norbon Smith, Lonnie Smith, James Weldon Smith, J.C. Montgomery, Christine Smith, Winnie Lou Smith, Cordelia Leggett and Olga Salmon.
Local survivors include niece Lynn Brown of Palestine and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Glenn Miller, Jeff Lovelady, and the board of deacons from First Baptist Church in Rusk.

Services for Betty Lou Jordan, 92, of Palestine are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jordan died Saturday morning at Palestine Health Care center.

JOHNNY LEE OXFORD

Services for Mr. Johnny Lee Oxford, 72, of Tyler, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel in Tyler with the Revs. R.L. Jacobs and Wiley Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyler Memorial Park under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.

Mr. Oxford died Saturday at Hospice HomePlace in Tyler.

He was born Sept. 25, 1927 in Humble.

Mr. Oxford was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Tyler. He was a retired brick mason and also served in World War II in the army.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hilton Oxford; daughters Carol Tew and Vickie Hockman; brother Earl Oxford and sister Marie Gilmore, all of Tyler, and sisters Pearl Bedre of Palestine, and Willodean Brown of Conroe; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Eddie Ray Bedre, Scooter Bedre, Donald Oxford, Robert Brown, Jerry Gilmore and Mike Oxford.

Memorials may be made to Hospice HomePlace, 3800 Paluxy Drive, Ste. 560, Tyler, Texas 75703.

THEO JENKINS

Services for Theo Jenkins, 51, of Springfield Community, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Lynn Stroud, Rev. Charles Grasty and Rev. Mike Drinkard officiating. Burial will follow in Stafford-Tucker Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Jenkins died early Friday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 11, 1948, in Palestine to Charles Ashley Jenkins and Ottis Rae Fitzgerald Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church. He graduated from Palestine High School and was president of his senior class. He was a fireman and locomotive engineer for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a cattle rancher for most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sherry Ann Jenkins of Springfield Community; his father; daughters Julie Jenkins Shaw of Elkhart and Jennifer Jenkins Turner of Humble; son Jason Jenkins of Houston; sister Mary Meador of Cayuga; brothers Bob Jenkins of Athens, Bill Jenkins of Stephenville, Harry Jenkins of Houston, Wyley Jenkins of Blackfoot Community, Charles Jenkins Jr. of Springfield Community and Ottis Ray “Honey” Jenkins of Athens; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Jenkins, Terry Jenkins, Charles Jenkins III, Chad Jenkins, Jeff Jenkins, Brian Jenkins, John Jenkins and Richard Jenkins.....

EUGENE MILTON DIETZ

Services for Eugene Milton Dietz, 71, of Palestine will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Guiceland Cemetery with Dr. Tom Rousseau officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Dietz died Saturday evening at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Palestine, to Harold Hugo and Cora Ethel Lester Dietz.

Mr. Dietz attended schools in Palestine and worked many years for Missouri-Pacific Railroad. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a life member of the VFW. He was a member of First Christian Church in Palestine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucretia Moseley Dietz; and a twin brother, Edwin Hunter Dietz.

Mr. Dietz is survived by a sister, Rosemary Dietz Tittle of Odessa; brother, Harold L. Dietz of Palestine; four nephews, three nieces, and six great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Earl Eaton, Merle D. Smith, Les Dietz, Glenn Tittle, Hunt Dietz and Bryan Dietz.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 113 East Crawford St., Palestine, Texas, 75801.

ROBERT L. WHITE JR.

Funeral arrangements for Robert L. White Jr., 60, of Houston and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Emanuel Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. White died Saturday at LBJ Hospital after a sudden illness.

LIDA MACE HARDTNER

Services for Lida Mace Hardtner, 80, of Palestine will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Owen Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Land of Memory Cemetery.

Mrs. Hardtner died Sunday at the Cartmell Home for the Aged.

She was born Aug. 5, 1919, in the Jones Schoolhouse community in Houston County, to Zacky D. and Evie Johnson Driskill.
Mrs. Hardtner lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ and was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Hardtner, in 1989.

Mrs. Hardtner is survived by daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Carol) Ellis of Elkhart, Mrs. Bob (Linda) Goodnight of Pineville, La. and Mrs. William (Carla) Parks of Tyler; brother, W.E. Driskill of Crockett; sisters, Mattie McLeod of Augusta and Marga Reeves of Jackson, Ala.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Knipe, David Goodnight, Kevin Abbott, Kevin Fogle and Jeff Barnett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Cartmell Home for the Aged, 2212 W. Reagan, Palestine, Texas 75801.

RUBY A. VAUGHN

Services for Ruby A. Vaughn, 85, of Corsicana, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery under the direction of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vaughn died Monday at Navarro Regional Hospital.

She was born May 23, 1914, in Tennessee Colony.

Mrs. Vaughn was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie W. Vaughn of Corsicana; sons, Johnnie L. Vaughn, Don Vaughn and Jack Vaughn, all of Corsicana and David Vaughn of Fairfield; daughter, Paula Marrs of Corsicana; brother, Ed Missildine of Palestine; sister, Willie Mae Humphrey of Corsicana; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JOE B. McDANIEL

Services for Joe B. McDaniel, 71, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Zak officiating. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. A rosary led by Father Zak will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Bailey & Foster Chapel.
Mr. McDaniel died Monday at his residence.

He was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Petersburg, to George and Maude Gayner McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a Catholic.

Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife, Norma McDaniel of Palestine; sons, Michael McDaniel of Grand Junction, Colo. and Patrick McDaniel of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sisters, Bee Lawlar of Athens, Ga., Georgie Bothwell of Odessa and Shirley McBroom of Cincintal, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Gardner, Robert Gardner, Jim Lawlar, Dennis Homann, Richard Atterton and Alan Warren.

CORNELIA BUTLER

Services for Cornelia Newton “Keats” Butler, 90, of Palestine, were held at 3 p.m. today at Larissa Cemetery in Cherokee County. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Butler died Tuesday at East Texas Medical Center in Athens.

She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Mount Selman, to Eugene McKee and Frances Irene “Fanny” Collins Newton.

Mrs. Butler served as the secretary-treasurer of the East Texas Music Appreciation Society in the late 1940s. She was a pianist and poet. She worked for the Rusk Chamber of Commerce in the late 1950s and then became the head librarian at the Rusk State Hospital where she worked for 18 years. She was a Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Weldon Butler; and sisters, Jessie Loring Hinzie and Carol Valentine Champion.

Mrs. Butler is survived by sons, Robert Anthony “Bobby” Butler of Palestine and Richard Nye Butler of Colorado; and a grandson.

Condolence messages will be received at the Butler residence.
