O.L. JONES
Services for O.L. Joe, of Tucson, Ariz. and formerly of Palestine, were held today in Tucson at the Phillips United CME Church. Burial followed in a Tucson cemetery .
Mr. Joe died Feb. 2 in Tucson.
He was born April 30, 1913 in Anderson County to Alonzo and Callie Gray Joe.
Mr. Joe served in the Army in War World II.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Mr. Joe is survived by his wife, Cuba Joe; step-mother, Hannah Joe of Palestine; step-daughter, Dorothy N. Nixon; a step-grandchild; sisters, Callie Watley and Lorine Norwood, both of Tucson and Hannah B. Lynch and Sylvia Heard of Little Rock, Ark.; and brothers, John E. Joe of Tucson and J.W. Joe Sr. of Palestine.

ESTHER T. CHAMPION
Services for Esther T. Champion, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Larry E. Tillman officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Springhill Cemetery in Ringgold, La.
Mrs. Champion died Monday at her residence.
She was born Aug. 30, 1907 in Ringgold to Isaac Phillip and Edna Bell Bailey Conly.
Mrs. Champion was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Edward Champion; a daughter, Juanita Crow; three brothers; and a sister.
Mrs. Champion is survived by a daughter, Addie B. Parsley of Palestine; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.
Condolence calls will be received from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

PEARLE DEWEY
Services for Pearle Lewis “Pete” Dewey, 88, of Dew, were at 2 p.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield with the Rev. Donald Pruitt officiating.
Mr. Dewey died Sunday at his home.
He was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Freestone County.
Mr. Dewey was a retired market research clerk.
He is survived by a brother, Gene Lewis of Fairfield; sister, Avis Eisen of Fairfield; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family members.

DOROTHY DANIEL SPEER
Services for Dorothy Daniel Speer, 84, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Palestine City Cemetery with the Rev. David Luckert officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Speer died Tuesday at Dogwood Trails Advanced Health Care.
She was born March 29, 1915, in Houston, to John Purser and Minnie Lee Faust Daniel. Mrs. Speer was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert R. Speer, in 1977; and by a sister, Mary Lee Daniel Miller.
Mrs. Speer is survived by a daughter, Sandra Lee Speer of Palestine; Raymond Daniel Speer of Irving; and two grandchildren.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sharrion Kay Smith
Services for Sharrion Kay Smith, 51, of Clarksville, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lindman Chapel in Clarksville with the Rev. A.B. Kellam officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Tuesday at her residence. She was born Nov. 5, 1948, in Clarksville.
Mrs. Smith is survived locally by a sister, Sherrle Myers of Tennessee Colony.

EMMA ARLENE BELL
Services for Emma Arlene Bell, 74, of Palestine, were at 2 p.m. today at Pilgrim Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Bell died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Michigan
Mrs. Bell had lived in Palestine since moving form Corpus Christi. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
Mrs. Bell is survived by a son, William Johnson of Palestine.

COLLIE UNDERWOOD, JR.
Services for Collie Lee Underwood Jr., 44, of Springfield, Mass., formerly of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Mr. Underwood died Jan. 30 in Springfield.
He was born Jan. 13, 1956, in Palestine, to Collie Lee Underwood Sr. and Willie Smith Underwood. Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Underwood; his mother; a son, Leonard Underwood; and daughters, Carla Underwood and Lynette Underwood, all of Springfield, Mass.

FREDDIE HOPKINS
Services for Freddie Hopkins, 64, of Forth Worth, formerly of Tennessee Colony, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Bethel Church, 1344 East Harvey Street in Fort Worth. Burial will follow under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fort Worth.
Mr. Hopkins died Saturday at his home in Fort Worth.
He was born Sept. 21, 1935, in Tennessee Colony, to Rosell and Lettie Hopkins.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife, Willie Hopkins of Fort Worth; son, Eddie Charles Hopkins of Fort Worth; sisters, Bernice Warner and Frances Washington, both of Forth Worth, Juanita Hopkins and Luella Gulley, both of Arlington, Virtie Harris and Sarah Miller, both of Tennessee Colony; brother Willis Hopkins of Forth Worth, and Clem E. Hopkins of Tennessee Colony.

MARIE WEEMS MINTON
Services for Marie Weems Minton, 96, of Tennessee Colony, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tennessee Colony Church with the Rev. Wick Stuckey officiating. Burial will follow in Tennessee Colony Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster. Mrs. Minton died Monday at Palestine Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 1, 1904, in Birmingham, Ala. to John and Catherine McLaughlin Weems.
Mrs. Minton graduated from Stephen F. Austin College, received her master of education degree from Sam Houston State and received an master’s degree in education from the University of Houston. She taught school for 37 years in Rusk, Cayuga, Elkhart and Pasadena.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Minton in 1972; sisters, Freda Avant and Annie Laura Ward; and by brothers, Max Weems, Olon Weems and Dalton Weems.
Mrs. Minton is survived by a sister, Betty Woolverton of Tennessee Colony; and a brother, Edgar Weems of Nederland.
Pallbearers will be Jon Ben Ellis, Greg Ellis, Gary Woolverton, Kevin Stuckey, Derek Stuckey, Jeff Weems, Joel Gonzales and Danny Avant. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Gary Woolverton, Boyd Weems, Roger Weems, Burk Weems, Marlon Minton Jr. and Wayne Weems.

Services for Lurana Folk, 90, of Fairfield, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield with the Revs. Terry Skinner and Donald Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Freestone County under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Folk died Tuesday at her residence. She was born Dec. 13, 1909, in Streetman.
Mrs. Folk was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had worked as a cafeteria worker for the Fairfield school district.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie E. Folk; and sisters, Addie Hogan and Mary Compton.
Mrs. Folk is survived by daughters, Dorothy Barlow of Fairfield and Freida Pipes of Andrews; son, Joe Neil Folk of Kirbyville; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. ...

J.E. "Gene" HARDEN
Services for J.E. “Gene” Harden, 79, of Grapeland, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Park in Pasadena with the Rev. Fred Lintelman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.
Mr. Harden died Monday at his residence. He was born June 25, 1920, in Haslett, to J.M. and Annie Dunaway Harden.
Mr. Harden had retired as a supervisor for Crown Central Petroleum after 33 years of service. He was also a rancher. He moved to Grapeland in 1974 and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mabel Dunaway and Marie Thomas.
Mr. Harden is survived by his wife, Naomi Reed Harden of Grapeland; son, Jim Harden of Grapeland; sister, Lavada Williams of Pasadena; and brother, Vernon Harden of Huntington.

GREG MANLEY
Services for Greg Manley Sr., 41, of Palestine, were 1 p.m. Saturday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Craig Harris officiating. Burial followed in Fort Houston Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Manley died Wednesday at his home in Round Rock.
He was born Sept. 2, 1958, in Norwalk, Calif., to Walker D. Manley and Margurite Frobeaux Manley.
Mr. Manley was owner of Greg Manley Plumbing.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Mr. Manley is survived by his wife, Cy Ann Manley; his father; daughter Geri Beth Manley; son G.T. Manley; and sister Linda Taylor, all from Palestine; brothers Walker “Sonny” Manley Jr. of Missouri City and Don Manley of Waco.
Pallbearers were David Kirby, Steve Kirby, Lynn Taylor, Fred Sellers, David Hardin, Alan Starr and Lee Kinson.
