Arrangements for Alvin Jones, 89, of Kingsland and formerly of Palestine, are pending with Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Jones died Sunday in Kingsland.

ALVIN JONES

Services for Alvin Henry Jones, 89, of Kingsland, formerly of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Jones died Sunday at Llano Memorial Hospital in Llano.

He was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Mississippi, to John C. and Aurcla Ladd Jones.

Mr. Jones had lived in Palestine for many years before moving to Kingsland. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Mae Jones, in Feb. 1991; four brothers, four sisters and a grandchild.
Mr. Jones is survived by daughters, Billie Marie Lasiter of Palestine and Thelma Coker of Kingsland; sister, Mary Brim of Hawkins; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Nethery, Cliff Coker Jr., Phillip Lasiter, David Lasiter, Jeffrey Lasiter and Jerry Hunter.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

RICH BROWN

Services for Rich Brown, 52, of Lufkin, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Cemetery with the Rev. Jearald Biggs officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Brown died Monday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1948, in Palestine, to Douglas and Frances Meredith Brown.
Mr. Brown was a truck driver.

He is survived by his parents, Douglas and Frances Brown of Lufkin; daughters, LaLainya Brown of Houston and Kaitlyn Michelle Brown of Tupelo, Miss.; brothers, Robert R. Brown of Humble, James D. Brown of Baytown and Billy H. Brown of Channelview.

Pallbearers will be Charles Peterson, James M. Peterson, Thomas L. Luce, Robert R. Brown, James D. Brown and Billy H. Brown.

JOHN ALLEN

Services for John Layland Allen, 61, of Grapeland, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Refuge Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Kelley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mr. Allen died Sunday at his residence.
He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Houston County, to Johnny Thomas and Donie Huffine Allen.

Mr. Allen was a self-employed roofing contractor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Jeanette Allen in November 1999; sisters, Bessie Marie Templeton, Jo Ann Bell and Rebecca Allen; and a nephew, Gene O. “Bubba” Allen.

Mr. Allen is survived by stepdaughter, Debbie Randolph of Greenville; sisters, Joyce Reid and Bonnie Overstreet, both of Crockett, Cathy Kraus of College Station and Donnie Sue Baronsky of Houston; brothers, Gene O. Allen and James Allen, both of Grapeland.

GERTRUDE TURNER

Services for Gertrude Turner, 93, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Jack Cox officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Turner died Monday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

She was born May 24, 1906, in Seldelia, Mo. to Robert A. and Sue McElroy Garner.
Mrs. Turner was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 81 years, where she taught Sunday school for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, John Stafford Turner in 1968.

She is survived by sons, John S. Turner of Seabrook and Robert B. Turner of Georgetown; brother, Earnest Garner of Pine Bluff, Ark.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ben Lester, Stephen Turner, Lawrence Smith, Robert Garner, William Jay Turner and Joe Watlington.

EDITH BOWMAN

Services for Edith Violet Bowman, 72, of Denson Springs, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Muse Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Davy Hobson and Roy A. Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Muse Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Bowman died Monday morning at her residence.

She was born May 7, 1927, in Cherokee County, to Eli and Carrie Watson Wysick.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of Muse Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira C. Bowman in 1977.

Mrs. Bowman is survived by daughters, Margurite McLemore and Patricia Wisdom, both of Elkhart, and Edith Kilgore of Denson Springs; sons, Roy L. Bowman of Slocum and Arnold Coates of Denson Springs; sister, Beatrice Carlisle of Bossier City, La.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Lusk, David Lusk, Paul Kilgore, Shad Bowman, James Adams and Joel Bowman.

MARY ELLEN TURNER

Services for Mary Ellen Turner, 77, of Palestine are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foster & Brown Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died Jan. 30, 2000, in Athens.

She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Emory to Luther and Flossy Holley.

Mrs. Turner was a homemaker. She attended United Methodist Church in Carroll Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Turner, on April 19, 1989; one sister; and one brother.

Mrs. Turner is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Turner and Bill and Carolyn Turner, all of Palestine, and Larry Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Glen Housley of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mike Halley, Jerald Lambright, Ken Jordan, Wayne Mitchell, J.D. Akin and Wayne Stafford.

Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

JOSEPH EMEL REED

- Services for Joseph Emel Reed, 81, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Union Baptist Church with the Rev. James Busby officiating. Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery under the direction of the McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Reed died Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

He was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Palestine, to Eddie and Cora Micheaux Reed.

Mr. Reed attended Lincoln High School and was a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. In 1939 he moved to Houston and was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company for 32 years. He was a member of Yellowstone Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He later was a member of the South Union Street Church of Christ.

Upon moving back to Palestine in 1980, he helped found the Church of Christ at Durham and Kolstad streets. Under his leadership, a new church was built on South Jackson Street where he served as minister.

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Ruth Reed of Palestine; sons, Jerry Reed and Joseph Reed, both of San Antonio, and Louis Bryant of Houston; sisters, Cleatrice Bass, Laura Williams, Fostine Dorsey, Christine Haney and Maurine Williams, all of Palestine, Rachel Johnson of Hempstead, N.Y. and Joanne Latham of Houston; brothers, Leonard Reed of Palestine and Eddie Reed of Houston; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A wake will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ at 1612 S. Jackson St.

GERALDINE DAVIDSON

Services for Geraldine “Jerry” Davidson, 84, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Luckert officiating. Burial will follow in New Addition Annex Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Davidson died Jan. 27.

She was born June 14, 1915, in Kansas City, Mo. to Harve and Ellen Kellogg Wright.

Mrs. Davidson was a retired school teacher from the Palestine Independent School District, where she taught for 20 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for many years. Mrs. Davidson taught piano lessons in Palestine for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde D. Davidson.

Mrs. Davidson is survived by her daughter, Jeran Alexander of Richardson; sons, Paul H. Davidson of Bethany, La. and Clyde Davidson Jr. of Emporia, Kan; brother, Ragene Wright of Salina, Kan.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Alexander, Derek Davidson, David Davidson, Scott Moore, Daren Davidson and Paul Davidson Jr.

Condolence calls will be received from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

MAUDIE RUBY

Services for Maudie Ruby, 77, of Rusk, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Felders Chapel Church with the Rev. Randy Shipman officiating. Burial will follow in Murdock Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mrs. Ruby died Wednesday morning at East Texas Medical Center of Jacksonville.

She was born April 22, 1922, in Rusk, to William and Hanna E. Weisinger Marshall.
Mrs. Ruby was a retiree of Deer Park Independent School District. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Chapel Assembly of God Church in Pasadena. She also was a member of Felders Chapel Assembly of God at Grapeland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Ruby.

Mrs. Ruby is survived by daughters, Sharron Ivie of Grapeland and Sheila McClain of Rusk; sons, Jerry Ruby of Palestine and Dudley Dailey of Pasadena; sisters, Gwen Hendrick and Otis Skidmore, both of Conroe; brother, Rueben Marshall of Moss Hill; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be G. W. Marshall, H.E. Owens, Dallas Peters, Wetzel Ivey, Dewayne Marshall and Ronald Rainer.

MAURICE WILSON

Services for Maurice “Doc” Wilson, 71, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Gregory A. Megill officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.

Mr. Wilson died Thursday afternoon at his residence.

He was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Center to Dewey and Iva Choate Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was retired as manager from Coale Roofing Company in Houston.

Mr. Wilson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Palestine.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Wilson of Palestine; daughter, Linda M. Carroll of Houston; brothers, Don Wilson of Brazoria and Eugene Wilson of Silsbee; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Malcolm Williams, Mert Severenson, Charles Crawford, Robert Neyland, Robert McClelland and Judge Earl B. Stover.

EDITH CRASS

Services for Edith Faye Crass, 87, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with Drs. Tom Rosseau and Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine City Cemetery.

Mrs. Crass died Wednesday evening at Dogwood Trails Advanced Health Care.
She was born April 5, 1912, in Elkhart, to Walter Talmadge and Annie Jane Pope Lively.

Mrs. Crass was a graduate of Texas Women’s University in Denton. She was a retired school teacher and had taught school at Four Pines School. She was a member of First Christian Church in Palestine. She had served as secretary and teacher of her Sunday school class. She also was a member of Harvey Woman’s Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clinton W. Crass of Palestine; daughter, Ann Lynn Bailey of Palestine; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Walter Johnson, Charlie Davis, Bill Bible, Marley Styner, Alvin Coleman and Fred Spain.

Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Emerson, Clifford Bassett and David Dial.

Services for Georgia Guynn, 75, of Tyler, will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Guynn died Wednesday at a Tyler hospital.

She was born May 14, 1924.
Mrs. Guynn was a graduate of Palestine High School.

She is survived by her daughters, Susie Gibson of Wichita Falls and Carla Holcomb of Palestine; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JAMES RAY GILBERT

Services for James Ray Gilbert, 51, of Austin, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. William “Bill” Newman officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Mr. Gilbert died Monday in Austin.
He was a master planner at National Instruments in Austin.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gilbert of Houston; parents, B.R. and Doris Gilbert of Oakwood; sister, Rebecca Gilbert Groce of Coppell; and brother, Richard F. Gilbert of Houston.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Mason, Art Becker, Richard Gamble, Richard Gilbert, Randy Groce, Barney Bolt, Gil Swift and David Beasley.

DORIS PATRICK MARSHMAN

Services for Doris Patrick Marshman, 88, of Houston and formerly of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Palestine City Cemetery with Dr. Tom Rousseau officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Marshman died Thursday at Heritage Sam Houston Nursing Home in Houston.
She was born Oct. 13, 1911 in Palestine to John Patrick and Maggie Parks Roscoe Patrick.

Mrs. Marshman was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Palestine.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Marshman, in 1994.

Mrs. Marshman is survived by a daughter, Jan Conant, Houston; sisters Jonivel Smith, Birmingham, Ala., and Mildred Callahan, San Angelo; and two grandchildren.

RONNEICA TURNER

Services for Ronneica Angelique “Angie” Turner, 34, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Myron Waddle and Roy G. Duncan officiating.

Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Miss Turner died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 5, 1965, to Floyd Lee Turner and Ethel Crawford Turner.

She graduated from Westwood High School and was employed at Villa Inn Nursing Center, Memorial Mother Frances Hospital, Home Health Care and Candy Cane Learning Center.

Miss Turner was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Turner and George Henry Crawford.

Miss Turner is survived by her parents; daughters, Ashley Lynn Turner and Cassie Yvette Turner; son, Gerald Glenn Turner; brothers, Romal E. Crawford, Dennis L. Turner, Michael W. Turner and Ester L. Turner; sisters, Andrea Lynn King, Linda Joyce Turner and Misty Machell Turner; maternal grandmother, Pearl E. Crawford; and one grandson.

The family will receive condolence calls from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
