Greg Kaiser, 63
Died: Friday, April 13, 2012, in Fredericksburg, Texas
Greg Kaiser, of Abilene, died in Fredericksburg on Friday, April 13, 2012. He was 63. A visitation will be held Monday, April 16 at 6:30 pm, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Beginning at 7:00 pm, a prayer service will follow the visitation. Funeral services for Greg will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road. A private burial will follow in Fredericksburg at a later date.
Funeral pallbearers are: Sam Chase; Seaton Higginbotham; Paul Hist; David Hoffman; Ed Patton; and Paul Thomas.
Greg Kaiser was born January 21, 1949 in Fredericksburg. He graduated high school at St. Mary's in 1967. In his early years, he was named an Eagle Scout.
Greg went to college at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) in San Marcos, earning a Bachelor of Science business degree in 1972.
He married Gwen Ann Grona on July 28, 1973. Soon thereafter, the young couple moved to Dallas, where Greg worked in executive management for Southwestern Life.
The Kaisers moved to Abilene in 1978.
1982 proved to be a red letter year for Greg and Gwen. They established their business, Pensions Unlimited, Inc., which they ran for 28 years before selling the company in 2010. Pensions Unlimited was one of Abilene's small business shining stars during this time period.
While Greg was proud of his young business, his most important moment in 1982 was the birth of his daughter, Andrea Elizabeth. If you had the good fortune to know Greg, you would be well aware that Andrea was always the light of his life.
In the mid-1990s, the Kaisers expanded their family by adopting Fathom Boyd Kimes. Fathom was a welcomed addition to the family. He was the son they always wanted and love so dearly.
Greg, along with his wife Gwen, was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He also served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity and the Noah Project, was a member of the Abilene Rotary Club, and mentored to the boys at the Ben Richey Boys Ranch.
Greg was an extremely talented businessman and numbers cruncher, foreseeing industry trends before others, which allowed him to stay one step ahead of his competition. But an equally important part of Greg's life was his love of the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved nothing more than spending time at his farm in Fredericksburg. Greg had a real connection with the idyllic splendor and beauty of the land.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Andrew G. Kaiser, and his sister, Karen Kaiser.
Greg was a loving husband, father and son. He is survived by his wife Gwen, of Abilene; his daughter Andrea, of Abilene; his son Fathom, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his mother Bea, of Fredericksburg; his brother Barry and wife Paula, of Fredericksburg; his sister Phyllis and husband Dennis Klein, of Fredericksburg; several nieces and nephews; his dear friend, Dewayne Davis, of Fredericksburg; and his much beloved dogs, Dottie Ann and Alex.
Greg was a firm believer in the work of the following charities, and would encourage donations to them or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers:
Noah Project, P.O. Box 875, Abilene, TX 79604; Habitat for Humanity, 101 Fulwiler Rd., Abilene, TX 79603; or to Rescue the Animals, SPCA, 5933 South 1st
Abilene, TX 79605.
Greg is going to be sincerely missed by his family, as well as the greater communities of Abilene and Fredericksburg. He was a compassionate man with a dry wit, a warm handshake and a smile for everyone he encountered. If you were fortunate enough to call Greg a friend, he was the rare individual you could count on anytime, anywhere, no matter what the circumstance.
