Homer Wayne Hedrick I am a Veteran.
October 17, 1933 - April 11, 2012

Homer “Wayne” Hedrick, 78, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 16th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Wayne was born on October 17, 1933 in Hereford, Texas the son of Otis Hedrick and Ruby Callaway Hedrick. He served our country during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired as a Chief Petty Officer working in aviation electronics after 22 years of service with the U.S. Navy. After his military career, Wayne worked over 20 years for Texas Instruments. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and driving his antique cars in local parades, homecomings and weddings. He was a 32˚ Mason and was a member of the Model A Club and the Moon Club.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wanda Hedrick of Abilene; his children, Daniel Hedrick and wife Maria of Austin, David Hedrick and wife Terri of Abilene, Richard Hedrick and wife Angie of Riverside, Iowa, Curtis Hedrick and wife Karrie of Abilene, Ruby Freiley and friend Steve Benoit of Dallas and Rhonda Harendt and husband Jon of Abilene; two brothers, Hollie Hedrick and wife Mary of Fresno, California and Temple Hedrick and wife Claudia of Auberry, California; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and special family, Brian and Joy Freiley.

His parents and two sisters, Carolyn Gagnon and Evelyn McDaniel preceded him in death.

Cyrus "Cy" William Freeman
January 24, 1921 - April 23, 2012

Cyrus “Cy” Freeman, 91, went to be with God on April 23, 2012 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cy was born on January 21, 1921 in Putnam, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and graduated from Texas A&M; University in 1949. He lived in Tulia, Texas from 1952-1999 where he owned and operated Freeman Irrigation Company. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Tulia serving as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Cy moved to Abilene in 1999 and was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of the First Baptist Church.

His parents, Cyrus W. Freeman Sr. and Bertie McCord Freeman, 4 sisters and 3 brothers preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Sandy Freeman of Abilene and Cliff and Kathie Freeman of Farmington, New Mexico; Grandchildren, Clint Freeman and wife Erica, Corey Freeman and wife Megan and Katie Freeman; great grandchildren, Rebekah, Hannah, Joannah, Lydiah, Brody and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels, 717 N. 10th St., Abilene, Texas

Oneta Joye Horrell
April 25, 1945 - April 21, 2012

Oneta Joye Horrell, 67, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Merkel. Visitation for family and friends will be today from 4 till 6 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2012 at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Joye was born April 25, 1945 in Abilene, TX to Cliff and Ruth Ross. She attended Hamby Elementary and Hawley High School. On June 8, 1961 she married Jimmy E. Horrell in Abilene. She was a member of North Park Baptist Church, loved gardening, and traveling in their RV.

Joye was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Tiney Breeden; father, Clifton Ross Sr.; brother, Clifton (Junior) Ross Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Ross of Clyde; her husband, Jimmy Horrell, Sr.; one daughter, Angela Huff and husband Wayne of Merkel; two sons, Jim Horrell, Jr. and wife Donna of Copperas Cove, Jeff Horrell and wife Davina of Copperas Cove; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Sue Byrd of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, TX 79601 in Joyes honor.

Maxima "Maxie" Sena Samilpa
July 5, 1944 - April 19, 2012

Maxima “Maxie” Samilpa, 67, passed away April 19, 2012 in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 4 till 6 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, April 23, 2012 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park’s Garden of Good Shepherd.

Maxie was born July 05, 1944 in La Sierrita, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Encarnacion Torres Sena and Maria del Refugio Garcia. She was a devout and faithful member of a Spanish congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Abilene. She genuinely enjoyed sharing her faith with others and did so as much as she could despite her illness and physical impairment.

To friends and family, Maxie was known for her loving and kind ways. She always chose to see the good in people and had an exceptionally positive attitude about life despite her troubles. Spending time with her grown children brought her much happiness, but her greatest joy was seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she had a special love for.

She and her husband were 31 year residents of Abilene, Texas. They moved from Mercedes, TX in June 1981. Housekeeping was one of her best skills and she put those to use working for various hotels in her earlier years in Abilene. She later worked in private homes for several families until her health began slowing her down in 1996. From then on, she spent most of her time at home dealing with her illness and living life as best as she could. She did so alongside her husband and her loyal son and closest companion, Alejandro “Alex”, who was instrumental in her care up until her passing.

Maxie was preceded in death by her parents, Encarnacion and Maria Sena and sisters Dora Molina and Paula Rodriguez.

Maxie is survived by her husband Reynaldo “Rey” Samilpa, Sr.; five children, son, Jose Bueron and wife Nelly, son, Alejandro Navarro, daughter, Norma Benavidez and husband Tony, daughter, Nora Rodgers and husband Tyler, son, Reynaldo Samilpa, Jr. and wife Debbie. In addition she is survived by siblings, Abdon, Rodolfo, and Carmen Sena; granddaughters, Ana Bueron, Aileen Esmerado, Desirae Samilpa; grandsons, Aaron Esmerado, Isaiah, Marc-Anthony, and Ruben Samilpa; step-grandchildren, Jacob Benavidez, Julio, Claudia, and Patricia Bueron; three great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends whose lives she touched.

Steve Hamilton
August 12, 1951 - April 25, 2012

Steve Hamilton, 60, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at his home at Lake Fort Phantom. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM on Friday, April 27th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. The family will receive friends following the service.

Steve was born on August 12, 1951 in Cherryvale, Kansas where he spent most of his youth. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1969 and attended Hardin-Simmons University. He married Katherine Phillips on September 12, 1986 in Jacksonhole, Wyoming. Steve worked in clothing manufacturing and at Abilene Christian University for 7 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Abilene; two sons, Cade Alan Hamilton of Abilene and Stephen Tique Hamilton and wife Stacy of Sweetwater; his parents, Harry and Shirlee Hamilton of Abilene; a sister, Cindee Sokal and husband Paul of Dallas; two brothers, Harry Anthony “Andy” Hamilton and wife Shoyleen of Katy and Paul Wayne Hamilton and wife Robyn of Abilene; nieces and nephews, Ryan and wife Jessica, Hailey, Adam, Peter, Sheri and husband Todd, Amanda, Clinton, Arran, Brie, Katie, Amy, Andue and Daniel; and great nieces and nephew, Presli, Keeli and Cadon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hendrick Hospice Care.

Truman Ray Loden
April 10, 1928 - April 13, 2012

Truman Ray Loden, 84, passed away Friday morning April 13, 2012 in a Waco Hospital. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 20, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 PM until service time.

He was born to Benjamin Franklin and Birdie Ellen (Diver) Loden on April 10, 1928, according to the U.S Army, but his mother maintained he was born on the 11th. (She said she should know because she was there). He was born and grew up in South Waco. He graduated from Waco High School where he played 1st trombone in an outstanding band. Upon graduation he went directly into the Army and spent 18 months with the Occupational forces in Japan.

Truman married Jeanette Dowdy on April 2, 1949 and they had three beautiful daughters. October 1, 1977 Truman married Ozella Buck from Lubbock, TX. They were married for 32 years. They enjoyed traveling and being with their families. Truman worked for the U.S Government as a Quality Control Inspector and retired while living in Potosi, near Abilene. The two were very happy and enjoyed a good life until Ozella passed away June 1, 2009. Truman chose to move to China Spring to be near his two daughters and other close family members. He was a member of First Baptist Church of China Spring.

Preceded in death were his parents, wife Ozella, sister, Winnell McMinn, brothers, B.F. and Ralph, and his beautiful daughter Paula Cawthon.

Those surviving are his two daughters Jana Kelley and husband Gene, Laura Lambert and husband Chuck, son-in law, Ronnie Cawthon; brother Billy Loden; three stepsons, Gary Buck, Donnie and wife Diana, Richard and wife Leanne; grandchildren Ginger, Clark, Autumn, Ben, Brad, Leah, Brianna, Chelsea, Zack, Shane, Cory, Dusty; 15 great-grandchildren; special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clois "Andy" Andrew Tarr I am a Veteran.
May 28, 1929 - April 6, 2012

Clois Andrew “Andy” Tarr, 82, went home to be with his Lord on April 6, 2012. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Andy was born May 28, 1929 in Breckenridge, Texas. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, Andy settled in Abilene in 1957 where he married Ollie Dee Windham at Corinth Baptist Church which later became Faith Baptist. As their Faith grew in this church home, God blessed him with a family he adored and with a passion for working with automobiles.

Anyone who knew Andy recognized his love of cars as he raced them, built them, and restored them. In his early years, Andy spent many Saturdays at the SpeedArena of Abilene where he raced the #55 car. In 1962, he was the stockcar champion. While racing, he began his own business, Andy’s Automotive Service in 1961 and was a member of the Automotive Service Assoc. and the Texas Independent Auto Assoc. He was an active participant with the Big Country Early Ford V-8 Club, where he shared his love with many of his closest friends.

As business grew he had less time to race and chose to devote his energy toward sharing his knowledge and expertise in mechanics with his family, friends and the community of Abilene.

He also donated his time to the community by serving on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau and for Faith Christian Schools. Additionally, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of South Abilene as acting president of the Health Committee providing eyeglasses for underprivileged children. Andy also sat on the advisory committee for the selection of textbooks for Abilene I.S.D.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Grant Tarr and Lura Beatrice Broyles; his sons Reginald David Tarr and Thomas Andrew Tarr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ollie Dee Windham Tarr, his brother Raymond Tarr, his daughters, Tandy Turpin and husband John, Crystal Tarr-Clary, and daughter-in-law Cecelia Tarr.

Grandchildren, Jeff Tarr and wife, Sherry, Josh Tarr, Taylor Tarr, Ethan Turpin, Colin Turpin, Brandon Clary and Emily Clary; great-granddaughter, Megan Tarr, and many other loving family members and lifelong friends.
