Dennis "Snoopy" Michael Duke
January 29, 1958 - October 31, 2009

Dennis Michael “Snoopy” Duke, 51, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 in Abilene. At the time of his death, he was doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle and the feeling of peace and freedom that came with it. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 6, 2009 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Dennis was born in Savannah, Georgia on January 29, 1958. He lived in many places growing up as the son of a career Air Force father. Around 1970, the family was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base and Dennis has been in the Abilene area since that time. He graduated from Wylie High School in 1976 and later attended Cisco Junior College where he enjoyed being a part of the marching band that participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. He has owned and operated Duke RV since 1992, where he has earned himself a loyal following and a reputation for being honest and skilled in his profession.

Dennis had many passions; he enjoyed photography, Nascar, and bowling, even going to National Tournaments in his younger days. His biggest passion has always been his music. He was a member of the band “Task”, could play many different instruments, wrote numerous songs, and loved passing time on the weekends jamming with good friend Don Sawyers.

Survivors include his father, Don Duke of Tuscola; his wife, Sharon Kay Duke of Abilene; two daughters, Jamie Osborne and husband Derrill of Abilene and Jennifer McIver and husband Jason of Royse City; three step daughters, Lisa Sawyers and husband Don of Tuscola, Randa Allen of Ft. Worth and Rebekah Williamson of Lawn; his sister Mary Ann Abbott and husband Horace of Merkel; six grandchildren, Summer, Zakhry, Brennan, Drake, Cameron and Briley; six step grandchildren, Tyler Williamson, whom he raised for 8 years, Tristen, Casey, Keirsten, Ryder and Haley; his niece, Ashley Carthel and husband Ty; and his nephew, Greggory Abbott and his wife Marla.

Mary P. "polly" Bode

Born: Sep 21, 1922
Died: Mar 16, 2009
Mary Pauline Bode, 86, of San Angelo passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009 at a local hospital.

Mary was born on September 21, 1922 in Mason County to Arthur and Myrtle Hurley. She married Leon E. Bode in San Angelo on November 29, 1945. She was a bookkeeper.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jim Hill officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kent Saunders, Ben Calhoun, Andy Calhoun, Dan Calhoun, David Hair, Jay Saunders, John Talley, and Ronel Robbins.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Bode; parents, Arthur and Myrtle Hurley; brother, Gordon Hurley.

Survivors include her son, James Bode and wife Mary of San Angelo; daughters, Pat Saunders and husband Jay of Denton; Mary Calhoun and her husband Dan of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Kent Saunders; Ben Calhoun; and Andy Calhoun; great grandchildren, Ryder Calhoun and Leo Calhoun; sisters, Dortha White of San Angelo; and Wanda Jacques of Mason.

Paul Leroy Pierce
March 31, 1953 - November 25, 2009

Paul Pierce, 56, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 28th at the Caps Baptist Church with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Paul was born in San Antonio on March 31, 1953 the son of Richard A. Pierce Sr. and Marion R. Clark Pierce. He has lived in Abilene most of his life, graduating from Cooper High School in 1971 and McMurry University in 1981. He taught school for a short time in Clyde and later in Paducah but eventually felt called to ministry which led him to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where he graduated in 1991. Paul was the minister of Hunt Baptist in Hunt for 13 years and had been the pastor of Caps Baptist Church for the past 2 years. He loved fishing and sports of all kinds especially baseball. He also enjoyed bowling and was a talented runner in his younger days.

Paul’s passion was serving the Lord through his work as a Pastor. He loved all the members of his congregation and truly sought to be their guide through good times and bad. He strived daily to bring new members to the church and new believers to Christ. He will be dearly missed by his family and his flock.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Beverly Gardner Pierce of Abilene; four sons, Ethan, Aaron, Dylan and Haydn Pierce all of Abilene; two brothers, Richard Pierce and wife, Dannisue of Abilene and Steven Pierce and wife Kathy of Lubbock; four sisters, Dawn Thomas and husband Roy of Morrow, Ohio, Mary Kirschbaum and husband Joe of Abilene, Karen Green and husband Buford of Princeton and Wanda Burke of Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Floyce Dell Campbell
July 23, 1922 - August 20, 2009

Floyce Dell Campbell, 87, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009 at her home in Abilene. Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 24, 2009 in the Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Gospel. Viewing and visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Floyce was born in Medina, Texas on July 23, 1922 the daughter of James Cornelous McHaney and Mary Stella Scallorn McHaney. She grew up in Sylvester and graduated from Sylvester High School where she was a star basketball player. She attended Hardin-Simmons University and married Loyd Campbell on July 12, 1940 in Abilene. Floyce made many personal sacrifices as she made a loving home for 8 children. She enjoyed crochet, sewing and being outdoors working in her yard and feeding the birds. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Richard Campbell and wife Linda, Carol Melao and husband Joe, Martha Justice and husband Dave, Alan Campbell and wife Angie, Kathy Brooks and husband Bobby, Sylvia Greenhouse and husband Wayne, Susie Sewell and husband Dr. Tommy Sewell; two sisters, Faye Cross of Midland and Billie Ruth Marzano of Washington; 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Her husband, her daughter, Cindy Campbell, 2 sisters and 1 brother preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hendrick Hospice Care, PO Box 1922, Abilene, TX 79604 or the American Heart Association.

Richard "Butch" Louis Fitzgerald
March 3, 1944 - September 13, 2009

With his daughters at his side, Richard Louis “Butch” Fitzgerald passed away Sunday morning, September 13th at his home after a valiant battle with cancer.

Butch was born March 3, 1944 in Colorado City, TX to Louis H. and Margurite Fitzgerald. He has been a resident of Abilene for more than 30 years and had been employed by Reeder’s Automotive for over 29 years. He was known to many as “Pop”. He had a love for his family, the lake, boats and cars, especially corvettes. He was involved in the local athletics scene as a board member of Raiders Football.

Richard was preceded in Death by, his parents; Louis & Margurite Fitzgerald; one sister; Mercedes Barbee; one daughter, Debra Ann Fitzgerald; and a infant Grandson, Jacob Scott O’Dell

He is Survived by, three Daughters, Melissa Lyle of Cedar Park, TX, Annette McDonald & husband Jimmy, of Tuscola, TX, Robin Fitzgerald and Monte Joe of Abilene, TX; grandchildren, Nathan & Katelyn Lyle of Cedar Park, TX, Brandon & Josh O’Dell of Abilene, TX, Meagan O’Dell of Tuscola, TX, Garrett McDonald of San Angelo, TX, Austin McDonald of Tuscola, TX, Lorenzo & Aziah Joe & Brayden Grubbs-Joe of Abilene, TX

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the extended family at Reeders Auto Supply for their generosity and understanding during his illness. We also would like to extend many thanks to our friends, family and neighbors with the many thoughts, prayers, food, and general kindness during this difficult time. The family also wishes to extend a very special thanks to the team at Sears Methodist Hospice. Your kindness and care during our father’s illness was a tremendous blessing to his family. Your guidance, compassion and support was so very appreciated as God put each of these individuals in our life to help us during this time.

Willard R. Herrington
April 3, 1928 - September 12, 2009

Willard Ray Herrington, 81, loving and beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed into the Lord’s arms on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Monday, September 14th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 15th in the Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer with a celebration memorial service to follow at Caps Baptist Church at 10:30 AM.

Willard was born on April 3, 1928 in Ovalo, Texas where he spent his childhood. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was Manager for American Optical in Abilene, San Antonio and Lubbock. From 1981-1996, Willard and his wife, Wanda, owned and operated Herrington Optical in Abilene. At the time of his death, Willard was working part time at Texas Midwest Optical in Abilene.

Willard married Wanda Raye Ford on April 1, 1949. He served as deacon at Caps Baptist Church. He enjoyed life and enjoyed helping others enjoy life.

His son, Ronald Ray Herrington, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Herrington, a brother, Leaman Herrington and sisters, Lottie Bates and Billie Lusk preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; a son, A. Russell Herrington and wife, Rhonda; grandsons, Rex A. Herrington and Lee D. Herrington and wife, Lisa; sisters, Polly Williams and twin sister, Wilma Black and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Robert Elliott Campbell Sr.
July 13, 1938 - August 12, 2009

Robert E. Campbell, Sr., born July 13, 1938 in Winters, Texas passed away August 12, 2009 in Houston, Texas at the age of 71.

He was a retired college professor and CPA/Real Estate Broker and lived in many areas of Texas and Colorado. He was a member of the Texas National Guard. He loved to hunt and travel.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Vernon and Nadine Campbell.

Bob is survived by one sister, Sally Frascone of Bedford, Texas; one daughter, April and husband Kelly Gilbert of Llano; one son, Robert, Jr. and wife Kara Campbell, one nephew, Christopher Frascone; and three grandchildren, Nicole Walts, Trey Campbell, and Corbyn Gilbert.

Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
