William Harwood, Jr., 67, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, in San Antonio.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and served in the Air Force for 22 years, continuing service to his country for over 40 years.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1978, with a BBA. He was a Little League coach, Scoutmaster, and helped found Scout Troop 521. Along with his best friend Jim Parker, he helped found C.O.P. for the Adams Hill Division.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, William C. and Madeliene Harwood. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty; his daughter, Sandra Harwood; sons, William Harwood III and his wife Alicia, James Harwood and his wife Georgia, Michael Harwood and his wife Nina, and Steven Harwood and his wife Irene; siblings Ethel, Flora Mary, Oscar, Kenneth, Ronald, and James; 16 grandchildren, Douglas, Jennifer, Stephanie, Nicasio, Brandon, Jarod, James II, Thomas, Carolyn, Emily, Michael II, Lindsey, Gilbert, Monique, Jessica and Olivia; 3 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob and Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your place of worship or charitable organization of your choice.

Billy Frank Wood, Sr

Billy “Frank” Wood, Sr., of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Friday, September 2, 2005 at the age of 68. He was born in Austin, Texas on October 4, 1936.
Frank was employed by Relmco of Hondo, TX. Throughout his career, Frank paved half of Texas as a construction contractor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rhonda N. Nelson; his father, John S. Wood; and his daughter, Sherri Lee Tissing.
Frank is survived by his companion of eleven years, Ruth Maxey; the mother of his children, Marianne Wood of Austin, TX; his sons, Billy Frank Wood, Jr. and his wife, Rue of Ottumwa, IA and Dale Wood and his wife, Allison of Costa Rica; his grandchildren, Range Jay Tissing, Denise Wood and Sam Wood.

Anne Stewart Bush Tepichin
Born in Danville, VA on Sep. 10, 1944
Died Aug. 30, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Anne Stewart Bush Tepichin was born September 10, 1944 in Danville, Virginia.
After a stoic fight with incurable cancer, an example of courage and strength to her husband, children and loved ones, she finally passed away as she lived, with grace and in peace on August 30, 2005.
She was predeceased by her father the Rev. Edward Bush. She is survived by her mother Anne Bush Leyden; husband Gonzalo Tepichin; sons, Phillip Tepichin, Benjamin Tepichin and his wife Casey, Stewart Tepichin and his fiancé Yvette Gutierrez, and Christopher Tepichin and Kristy Fruin; brother Philip Bush; sisters Bette Boyd, Sara Burns and Julia Lindow; grandchildren Mariah, Anyssa, Leah and Kade; as well as numerous other loving family members in Texas and Mexico City.
Mrs. Tepichin moved to San Antonio in 1960. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School, Stratford Junior College in Danville, Virginia, and Texas Tech University. She taught in SAISD until her marriage in Mexico City in 1970. She taught in Montessori and elementary schools in San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City. She received her Masters degree with Certification in Bilingual Education from UTSA. For 20 years she worked in the NEISD and was a founder of the Bilingual Education Program at Walzem Elementary School. She was one of the first Family Specialists, a liaison between schools and families of children at high risk, at Serna, Oak Grove and Colonial Hills Elementary Schools, ending her career at Colonial Hills Elementary School. She helped set the standard for excellence in this program to support families in achieving success. Anne is also survived by the hundreds of families her work so greatly impacted.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Anne Stewart Tepichin Angel Fund, Colonial Hills Elementary, 2627 Kerrybrook Ct., San Antonio, TX 78230 to benefit families in crisis and children at high risk.

Donald C. Fry
Born in San Antonio on Dec. 22, 1943

Donald Carlos Fry, born December 22, 1943, to Bertrand and Cecilia Fry, died September 28, 2005.
A lifelong resident of San Antonio, Donald graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1962.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Donald received his B.F.A. from The University of Texas at Austin in 1975.
Donald is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine; children, Bertrand and wife Bryn Larsen, Christopher, Jason, and Julianna; granddaughter, Natalie Larsen; sister Barbara and husband Frederick Prassel; brother, Daniel and wife Ann; mother-in-law, Margaret Fuchs; brothers-in-law, Harold Fuchs and wife Betty Lancaster; Kenneth Fuchs and Raymond Fuchs; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ellis and husband Ronnie; Christine Purdy and husband Patrick; Nancy Reynolds and husband Richard; and many nieces and nephews. Among his family and friends,
Don’s generosity of spirit and willingness to come to the aid of others in need were as well known as his dedication to continuous learning, thoughtful discussion, critical analysis, and vigorous debate.
He will be remembered by the works of art that he created throughout his life, but his true legacy is the love and admiration of his family members, and the senses of honor and humor that he bestowed on them.

Joseph Andrew Macnak

Retired Major Joseph A. Macnak, Sr., of San Antonio, Texas, age 86, passed away, Wednesday, September 14, 2005.
He was born October 30, 1918 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Helen Valcik and Andrew Macnak.
He was a kind, loving father and his family is proud to celebrate and honor his life by acknowledging his devotion, service and meritorious career in the Army, in which he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Joe was also active for many years in Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Order of The Arrow Vigil.
He and his late wife, Mary, opened Mac’s Flowers in 1950, which is currently owned and operated by their son, Glenn.
He is survived by his children, Joseph and wife, Donna, Glenn and wife, Lucy and James; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicole, Jennifer, Eric, Natalie, Lauren and six great grandchildren, Emily, Samuel, Treshayla, Matthew, Bryshanna and Jaci.

Alice Hodge, age 79, passed away on September 15, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Upton Hodge, brother, John B. Carey and sister, Regina Odom.
She is survived by her sons, Marshall Hodge and Ronnie Hodge; and daughter, Dr. Dana Donnelly; sisters, Agnes Ryan and Pat Martin; sister-in-law, Dell Carey; grandchildren, Lynnea Cook, Wayne Hodge, Tracie Hodge, Bryan Hodge, Ryan Hodge, Kelti Hodge, Christopher King, Kenneth King, Bethany Patterson; and 9 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Angelina M. Sansom
Born in Laredo, Texas on Apr. 13, 1915
Died Sep. 13, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Angelina M. Sansom was born on April 13, 1915 in Laredo, TX to the parentage of Manuel Mendez and Regina Trevino Mendez. She moved to San Antonio, TX with her family in 1929. She was one of five siblings, sister, Bertha and three brothers, Manuel, Ramiro and Oscar.
Mrs. Sansom is predeceased by her husband, Raymond T. Sansom, son, Nemesio (Jim) Meneses, grandson, Joseph Douglas Castillo, step-grandson, Warren Herkes II and step-daughter, Marie Etta Herkes.
Mrs. Sansom passed away on September 13, 2005. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Luthern Church since 1955 and was past Treasurer of the Women of the Church Organization; a Stephen Minister; past President of the George D. Newton Auxiliary of the American Legion; as well as a life member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Auxiliary #123, and to her delight, a member of the Norwegian Heritage Club since 1992.
Survivors: daughter, Irene and son-in-law, Joe D. Castillo; granddaughters, Patti Meneses, Sandra (Gary) Guzner, Melissa Meneses; grandsons, Ronald (Nicole) Meneses, David (Dorothy) Castillo, Michael (Diane) Castillo and Richard (Debora) Castillo; step-grandchildren, Deseree’ Meree, Rhonda Herkes, Brenda Armour and Shawn Herkes; step-daughter, Mrs. Levonne (Forrest) Gifford; 6 great-grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters, Maia Day Meneses and Baby Chloe Castillo; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Olga Y. Krenek; numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Special thanks to VISTA Care Hospice Staff, nurses and CNA’s for their “sacrifice of love” and tender care of my mother; and to our friends and family for their heartfelt prayers.

William Payne Francisco IV, of Boston, MA, was killed by an on coming car in his lane of traffic on September 10, 2005.
Bill was born on June 28, 1971, and is survived by his parents, William P. Francisco III, San Antonio, TX and Peggy Holman Francisco, Austin, TX; fiancé, Youlia Kostova, Boston, MA; brother, Thomas S. Francisco; sisters, Lori Francisco Hinnenkamp, Lisa Francisco Landa, and Tracy Francisco McMackle; grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Francisco; step-mother, Mrs. William P. Francisco; and a large number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
Bill graduated as an Architect from Boston Architectural Center and was employed by ADD Inc. as a Design Manager in the Massachusetts office. Bill spent much time working with cats at the Quincy Animal Shelter and designed the shelter’s logo.

Guadalupe Jose Esparza
Born in McAllen, TX on Apr. 28, 1930

Guadalupe Jose Esparza, (G.J.), age 75 of San Antonio, TX, entered into eternal peace on Monday, September 12, 2005.
He is preceded in death by his children, Marco Antonio Esparza and Magda Lili Esparza.
Mr. Esparza is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lili V. Esparza; daughter, Mayra V. Esparza and grandchildren, Magda Victoria Esparza; Emmanuel Antonio Esparza; Ezekiel Saul Esparza and his sister, Pearl Esparza Martinez of McAllen, TX.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and educator, he was born on April 28, 1930 in McAllen, TX.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and had two honorable discharges having served as a Quarter Master and in the Infantry.
He received a medical retirement due to the permanent loss of his right eye while fighting in the Korean War which earned him a Presidential Citation and a Purple Heart Medal.
With the true spirit of a Marine and the determination of a Texan, with roots embedded at the Alamo, he went on to live a very full and successful life.
Attending Pan American College from 1952 to 1955, earning a Bachelors of Arts Degree and attended the University of Southern California in 1956 as a student of Spanish.
In 1959 through 1961, he attended Texas A&M; in Kingsville, TX, earning a Master of Arts Degree. He continued to study for his Doctorate in Education.
His experience in education started in the McAllen, Texas I.S.D., continued in San Antonio at Edgewood I.S.D and concluded at Harlandale High School as Vice-Principal.
He also was a Spanish instructor at several colleges throughout San Antonio.
One of Mr. Esparza’s greatest passions was politics. In his early years, he ran for city council in McAllen, TX and later in life, ran for County Commissioner in San Antonio.
When asked if he had any hobbies, he would reply; “Who has time for hobbies? I have a family to raise.”
G.J. Esparza adored his family with undying love.
His wonderful smile and strong hand shake made a lasting impression with all that were blessed to know him.
He faced life as he faced death, with great strength and courage. Mr. Esparza’s faith was very strong and knew the Lord, thy God, was with him every step of the way.
Although his loved ones know he is in a better place, he will be greatly missed.
His generous heart and his loving spirit will be with us forever.
With open hearts now and always, we give great thanks to the doctors that believed in his spirit and never gave up on him.
A special thanks to Dr. Y. Gia Dice, for her caring manner and compassionate heart.
And to the dedicated staff of angels at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care as well as the fine staff at Methodist Hospitals. “His Spirit Lives Forever”
