E. G. (Ted) Toscano, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2005.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolina T. Toscano.
Survivors are two sons, William (Bill) Toscano and Clyde D. Toscano; two daughters, Gerardette Toscano and Antoinette Toscano-Kimbrough; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mary Jane Newton
Born in San Antonio, TX on Sep. 15, 1923
Died Apr. 24, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Mary Jane (Janie) Newton, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2005.
Janie was born on September 15, 1923 in San Antonio to the late John Lewis and Marguerite Lawrence.
She graduated from Alamo Heights High School, attended Hockaday and the University of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane “Gigi” and husband of 58 years, Carl D. Newton.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Carl D. Newton III, wife Annie; Larry Newton, wife Beth; and Bill Newton, wife Susie; granddaughters, Shelby Newton, Clary Auler, husband, Mark and Lindsay Newton and Lauren Newton; great-grandson, Ashley Auler; sister-in-law, Taddie Gunn, and husband Robert; and many wonderful friends.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Junior League of San Antonio.
Janie was a vivacious and fun person.
She will be remembered for her flair for entertaining, fabulous parties and grand style.
Janie gave much joy and happiness to all of those who knew her and will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Larry Drake and the staff for their compassionate care and devotion.

Benjamin Allen Perry
Born in Lexington, Kentucky on Sep. 22, 1918
Died Apr. 24, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Ben A. Perry, age 86, of San Antonio, died Sunday, April 24, 2005. He was a graduate of Transylvania University, University of Kentucky and the Salmon P. Chase School of Law.
Mr. Perry was a 33 degree Mason and a Noble in the Alzafar Shrine, a Son of the American Revolution, and a Colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brown Perry; daughters, Judith Brigham and husband, Brad, and Susan Hoffman; grandchildren, Melanie Berlin and husband Alfred, Benjamin Mensik, Suzie Hoffman and Hunter Hoffman; great granddaughter, Evelyn Perry Berlin.

Mary E. Guthrie
Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada on Aug. 25, 1935
Died Apr. 24, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Mary Elizabeth Guthrie age 69, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2005 in San Antonio, TX.
She was a Life Member of the NCO Wives Club. Mary helped to raise scholarship money for the NCO children through the years.
She served as an Arlington Lady, assisting the families of soldiers to be interred in Arlington National cemetery. Mary was a supporter of State and National GOP activities.
She was preceded in death by parents, Benjamin and Blanche Vincent of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, brother, James Vincent and sister, Sophie Pelley.
Mary is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert Guthrie, CSM, U.S. Army (Ret); daughters, Ann Guthrie, RN of San Antonio and Nancy Guthrie of Lake Placid, New York; brother-in-law, James Guthrie of San Antonio and numerous nieces and nephews residing in Canada.

Mario Luis Gutierrez
Born in Laredo, Texas on Sep. 23, 1944
Died Apr. 27, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Mario Luis Gutierrez, a loving father, a devoted son, a caring brother, and an honorable soldier, entered eternal peace at Sunrise, Tuesday, April 26, 2005.
He was born in Laredo, Texas on September 23, 1944.
He served in the United States Air Force as an Electronics Specialist.
He was very proud of his military career and to have served as a Vietnam veteran.
Mario was preceded in death by his adoring mother, Maria Inez Gutierrez, and his supportive father, Mariano Gutierrez.
He is survived by four caring sons, Carlos, Joe, Michael and Eric Gutierrez.
In addition, he leaves his brother, Hector Gutierrez; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Al and Josie Perez; and James and Celia Boriack; nephews, Robert and Joseph Efurd; grandsons, Carlos Jr., and Steve Gutierrez; cousins, Ina, Olga, Francisco, Fausto, Sylvia Molina; Maria Victoria, Juan, and Oscar Rodriguez of Laredo.
Archbishop Jose Gomez celebrated the Holy Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, on Wednesday, April 27th.
Mario, who was known for his kindness and helpfulness, will be missed by all who knew him.
Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Marion E. Doyle
Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts on Apr. 15, 1919
Died Mar. 28, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Mrs. Marion E. Doyle was taken by flights of angels to her heavenly home on March 28, 2005.
She was born on April 15, 1919 in Wakefield, Massachusetts, one of nine children born to Anne R. Coakley and John D. Shanahan. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Wakefield High School.
Marion was active in her high school’s basketball, bowling and field hockey teams, the senior play committee and the yearbook staff, where she designed the yearbook cover.
After vocational school, she was employed as a secretary at a grain factory during the Depression.
She married Lewis W. Doyle of Everett, Massachusetts, whose Army Career took the couple and their children on travels to Washington DC, Germany, Texas and North Carolina. They settled in San Antonio in 1960, attracted by the schools, military installations and the climate.
Marion was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Sacred Heart League and the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal.
She belonged to the Fort Sam Houston Officers’ Club, the National Auxiliary of the Yankee Division Veterans Association and the Americal Division Veterans Association.
Her special interests included gardening, knitting, reading, music and animals. Marion was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a gracious lady and the truest of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis Doyle, sisters, Gladys Jackson, Claire Bessler and Ruth Eileen Shanahan, brothers, Roland and Leonard Shanahan and grandson, Clint Buchholtz.
She is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Ruth Eileen and her husband, Peter Schlette of LA; David and Robin Doyle of WA; Sheila and Fred Buchholtz of Luling; Barry and Kelly Doyle of FL; Mary Jane and Billy Farris of San Antonio; Kathleen and Todd Van Balen of the Woodlands; and Debra and Tom Harty of San Antonio.
She is loved and remembered by 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include 3 brothers, John Shanahan and Donald Shanahan of Massachusetts and Gerald Shanahan of California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 11931 Radium, San Antonio, TX 78216 and Scholarship Fund, Americal Division Veterans Association, Attn: James C. Buckle, 36 Standish Woods Circle, Harwich, MA 02645.

MSgt. Simon Richard Cervantez, Jr. USAF-ANG(Ret.)
Born in Bryan, Texas on May 25, 1943
Died Apr. 23, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

On Saturday, April 23, 2005, MSgt. Simon Richard Cervantez, Jr. USAF-ANG (Ret), beloved husband, father, son, and brother went to be with the Lord at the age of 61. He is preceded in death by his mother Jane Cervantez.
He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 29 years Mary, three children, Ricardo, Raquel, and Rebecca; and three grandchildren, Jacob, Leticia, and Nicholas; his father, Simon; and brothers: Michael, David, and Marcos; and three sisters: Belia, Sandra, and Cynthia.
Simon retired with the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Water System after 32 years of service and 20 years of military service with the U. S. Army active duty and the Texas Air National Guard. Simon was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and Southwest Texas State University. Simon was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and previously St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
He was a soldier of God with the Prison Ministry and a member of the Toastmaster’s Club. He loved fishing and was a sport fishing leader for the Texas 4-H Sport Fishing Program.

Dr. Alvin Rees
Born in San Angelo, TX on Dec. 5, 1925
Died Apr. 22, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Al Rees passed away April 22, 2005. Born on December 5, 1925. He was raised in San Antonio where he graduated from Alamo Heights High School.
While attending his beloved Texas A&M; University, he took a 2 year leave of absence to serve in the Army during World War II. Returning to A&M; after the War, he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Al served his country as a Captain in the Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam conflict.
Al’s passion for the nature and wildlife were reflected equally in his love of hunting and fishing, and his 50 years of dedicated veterinary care.
He served as President of the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County and was a long-time volunteer with the San Antonio Livestock Association. Al headed the annual rabies vaccination drive for many years. He was also active in his community. He was a current member and served as president of the San Antonio Executive Association and was a long-time member of the San Antonio Rotary Club.
The very best accolades are from the many who called him friend. His respect for his fellow man, his integrity and dignity engendered a loyalty and trust that recalled bygone years when a simple handshake was a promise. We who called him friend will miss him greatly.
Dr. Rees was preceded in death by his parents, Dixie and Alvin Rees, Sr., and his sister, Ruth Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia “Kim” Rees; children, son, Gary Barth Rees; daughter, Meredith Rees; son, John Kimbrough; daughter, Vickie Jones and her husband, Michael; daughter, Sandy Shipley and her husband, George. He had seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Josie Escobedo.
