Bob Joe Carroll
Born in Pear Valley, Texas on Oct. 27, 1923
Died Apr. 26, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.
Memorial Service: Saturday Apr. 30, 2005
Funeral Home: Porter Loring Mortuary
Bob Joe “Butch” Carroll died on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 after a brief struggle with cancer.
He was born in Pear Valley, Texas on October 27, 1923 to Bess and Ward Carroll. He was in his freshman year at Texas A&M; when World War II started.
He volunteered for the Navy Air Corps and served during World War II as a pilot. He returned to A&M; and finished his degree.
After a brief farming career, he became involved with the oil and gas lease industry. He speculated in land, oil and ran racehorses.
He only liked to play cards if money was involved. At 6’, 5” (or as he liked to say, 5’, 17”), he was the archetypical Texan who at times swore like a sailor, worked hard, read constantly, and loved to tell stories.
Upon hearing just last month that he once again had cancer, his response was a typical one: he wasn’t ready to die yet. A nurse asked him if he was in good with God, and he replied that he didn’t get to be 81 without Him.
Bob Joe is survived by his wife, Esmeralda; daughters, Petrie Carroll, Melissa Carroll and special friend, Kenneth Parker, Melinda and husband, David Walcher; sons, Robert and wife, Kathleen Carroll, William and wife, Pam Carroll; grandchildren, Damion and Kane Mason, Lorena Golum and Michelle, Erin and Eric Carroll. Surviving cousins include Peggy Stocker of Temple, Burnard Browning of Port Arthur, Nick Deck of Springfield, VA. and Betty Jean Batcheller of California.
