Stella Jezierski, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2004.
She was born on April 19, 1914 in Garfield, NJ to Stanaslaw and Helen (Krupski) Lorkowski.
Her husband, Edmund, Jezierski preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Gayton and husband, Bill of San Antonio, Texas, and Elaine Walker of Souderton, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Elizabeth Gutierrez and husband, Mario of San Antonio, and Brent Walker of Philadelphia, PA; great grandchildren, Catherine Gayton and Alexandria Gutierrez, both of San Antonio.

Mona Elaine Mernin of Bulverde, Texas age 69, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004. She was an active member in the Auxillaries of the Bexar County Medical Society, Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, American Psychiatric Association and past Chairman of the Board of Club 12.
Mona also enjoyed watching the NBA especially our San Antonio Spurs. She is survived by her husband, Dr. George Mernin; daughter, Lisa Mernin McLean; son, Todd P. Mernin all of Bulverde, TX; the special light of her life her granddaughter, Alexa Kailee McLean; sister, Linda Dingus of Rockford, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: David Kolaz, Derrik Dodge, Tim Dingus, Trey Scott, David Dellagiacoma and Grady Pape.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staffs of Kindred Hospital, Compass Hospital and Methodist Hospital Life Care for all their dedication and care.

Brigadier General William R. Goade, USAF (Ret), age 81, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2004 in San Antonio, TX. He was born March 23, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Edna (Robertson) and Jesse Louis Goade. Brig. Gen. Goade was commissioned in the Army Air Corps in October 1943 and flew 62 bombing missions in B-26 Aircraft against targets in France, the Low Countries and Germany. He was a command pilot with additional rating of observer and had over 6000 hours flying time. Among his many decorations, he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a graduate of the National War College, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. and a member of the Order of the Daedalians. Following retirement, he was Senior Vice President and Cashier with Del Rio Bank and Trust, Del Rio, Texas, and Vice President with Alamo National Bank, San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Allen Goade. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Motley Goade; children, Christine and husband, Chuck; Tom and wife, Joan; Deborah and husband, Steve; and William, Jr. and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Martin Orth and wife, Celia; Elizabeth Liles and husband, Anthony; Lt. Elizabeth J. Bossy was born July 11, 1905, and died Tuesday, February 17, 2004. She was born in Uruguayana, Brazil; the fourth of five daughters born to Methodist missionaries, Edward E. Joiner and Lula May Joiner. Elizabeth attended Westmoorland College, Southwestern University and Texas University at Austin; and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was married
for 65 years to Herbert G. Bossy, a civil engineer. Elizabeth was a gifted artist and enjoyed raising orchids. Survivors include: 3 nieces, 2 nephews and several cousins, grand-nieces and nephews.

Florence Rachel (Scott) Atkinson, Age 92, of San Antonio, passed away, February 16th, 2004.
Florence’s maiden name was Florence Rachel Scott. Many of her friends called her Flo.
She was born on the Scott family farm, Grand Blanc Township, Genessee County near Flint, Michigan, December 5, 1911 to her parents, Ione May Smith and Erwin Wakeman Scott, Sr. She was the oldest of three children. Her childhood family consisted of her paternal grandparents, David Scott and Susan Smith, her parents and two brothers, Winston Murray Scott and Erwin Wakeman Scott, Jr.
Florence spent much of her adult life raising her sons, being a good wife, teaching public elementary school, tracking her ancestral family and traveling.
She is descendent from numerous early American family names, including: Adams, Allen, Baker, Brenner, Burnet, Cherry, Culver, Desborough, Elithorpe, Ford, Goode, Goodyear, Harriman, Harris, Hawley, Heaton, Hopkins, House, Johnston, Keister, Lathrop, Miles, Mix, Orvis, Prindle, Taft, Turner, Silliman, Scott, Scudder, Smith, Taft, Thompson, Wakeman, Ward, and Wilmont. The family migrated to South Texas in 1924.
She married
Patrick (Pat) Joseph Atkinson Sr., on July 17, 1935 in Houston, Texas. Pat, born in Kerrville, Texas but raised in and around Lake Charles, Louisiana, was a commercially licensed radio engineer and worked for various radio stations in Texas (including: KTRH, WOAI, KBOR, KGBS, & KGBT) most of his career; his only deviation was to buy and operate an independent telephone company in Woodson, Texas during the mid to late forties.
Florence bore two sons, both born in Houston, Texas: Patrick Joseph (Joe) Atkinson, Jr. and Thomas “Scott” Atkinson.
Florence spent her life as a wife, mother and schoolteacher until her retirement in 1976.
During her lifetime, she lived in Genesse County, near Flint, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Houston, Harlingen, Houston, San Antonio, Woodson, Los Fresnos, Brownsville, Lyford, Harlingen, Clear Lake City, Davilla and San Antonio, Texas.
Florence’s education began when attending first grade in Chicago. She graduated from Harlingen High School, Harlingen, Texas in 1929. Her advanced education included several years at the University of Houston then later Pan American University, Edinburg, Texas where she graduated (honors) with a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education. Florence taught school in Raymondville, Lyford, Monte Alto and Sebastian, Texas, all in the Rio Grande Valley.
Upon retirement in 1976, she and her husband Patrick moved to Houston (Clear Lake City) and then to Davilla, Texas where they build and ran an RV Park known as Camp N’ Fish. After Pat passed away on March 11, 1985, she continued to operate the RV Park until she no longer could physically handle it. After selling the RV Park, she moved to San Antonio in 1991 to live with her son, T. Scott and his wife Margaret.
Florence liked to read, travel, attend RV rallies, play card games, visit with extended family members and research her genealogy. She took many trips by herself by auto and train. She was a long-term member of the Loners of America (LOAs) and Loners on Wheels (LOWs).
In recent years, she stayed closer to home, playing cards with her friends and visiting family. She fell and broke a hip in Jan 2002, while visiting her son, Joe, in Spring (Houston), which lead to her moving into Heartland of San Antonio assisted living facility.
Her ashes will be buried with those of her late husband in the family plot at Forest Park (Oak Lawn) cemetery on Hwy 45 near downtown Houston. Her mother and father are also buried there.
Florence was initially raised in the Baptist faith but converted to Methodism upon her marriage to Pat.
She was very generous with her time and resources to her family and many friends. She was a very family orientated person and spent considerable time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will certainly be missed.
Her family consists of two brothers, two sons, 4 grand-daughters, 1 grandson, 4 great grand-daughters, 6 great grandsons, 2 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 grand-nieces, 2 grand nephews, 3 great grand nephews, 1 great grand niece and many many friends, some listed are Elsie Brehm (dec) and Katherine Trussell (dec) of Houston; Hope Duff and Jean Fischnar of San Antonio.

Frank Pershing Simpson of San Antonio, age 85, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2004. He proudly served his country in World War II and the Korea Conflict.
After serving his country he was employed at Kelly AFB for 33 years. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; sons, Steve & Claude; daughters, Jeannine McReynolds & Dr. Diane Simpson; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, Roy Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Col. Joseph 'Joe' Zannet Matte, USAF (Ret.)

Colonel Joseph Zannet Matte, age 83, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2004.
He is survived by his much beloved wife of 59 years, Edith S. Matte; two children, Linda A. Norris and Joseph R. Matte. Also surviving him are five grandchildren, Kimberley G. Balstad, Sommer R. McDougal, Wendy M. Zeitler, Meghan E. Matte, and Pamela J. Matte and three great grandchildren; Caleb, Sydney, and Luke Balstad.
He was born on 23 July 1920 in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from North Texas State University.
He was a pilot and fighter Ace in the European theater during World War II recording seven confirmed kills. After the war, Col Matte’s early assignments included: Fort Hood, Texas; RAF Brize Norton, England; Ellington Field, Texas; and Naples, Italy. Col Matte’s subsequent assignments included serving as Chief of Maintenance at Randolph AFB, Texas; Deputy Commander for Maintenance at Laredo AFB, Texas; and senior advisor to the Military Assistance and Advisory Group (MAAG) in Taipei, Taiwan. His final assignment was as Chief of Maintenance, Air Training Command, Randolph AFB, Texas where he retired after 31 years of distinguished service to his country. Colonel Matte’s numerous decorations, medals, and citations include the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross w/OLC, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal w/18OLC, Air Force Commendation Medal w/OLC, Presidential Unit citation w/OLC, European Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a special award of Chinese Pilots Wings presented to him by the Taiwanese Government.
He remained in San Antonio where he engaged in a successful career in oil and gas exploration and residential home construction. Joe was an active member of the American Fighter Aces Association, the 2362nd Fighter Group Association, the 9th Air Force Association, the Air Force Association, and the Order of the Daedalions.
