Rhoda Nadine Merkens Canion, age 73, of San Antonio went to be with her savior Wednesday, January 28, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert G. and Freida “Fritzi” Merkens; brother-in-law, Dennis Canion; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Tracey Nehls Merkens.

She was a longtime employee of Jefferson State Bank.

William Roegelein, Jr., (Bill) age 82, of San Antonio, died Saturday, January 24, 2004 in El Paso, Texas.
He attended Texas A and M University and served as First Lieutenant, United States Air Force, World War II. Mr. Roegelein was District Commander of the San Antonio Power Squadron and District Commander of District 21, United States Power Squadrons, Texas and the Western Half of Louisiana and National Officer in the U. S. Power Squadrons.
He was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Roegelein Company, which was sold in 1981. Mr. Roegelein was President of San Antonio Manufacturing Association, Alamo Kiwanis Club, and San Antonio 100 Club. He was Vice President of Cerebral Palsy Association of Bexar County, and Texas and Southwest Meat Packers Association. He was Director of Bexar County National Bank, Republic National Bank of San Antonio, First Republic Bank, San Antonio, San Antonio Livestock Exposition, San Antonio Area Girl Scouts Council, Alamo Area Boy Scouts Council, Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, San Antonio Botanical Society and San Antonio Manufacturing Association. Mr. Roegelein was a member of Oak Hills Country Club and Ingleside Beach Club.
Bill was an avid fisherman, powerboat enthusiast, bird hunter, orchid grower and chef. But most of all, he was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather and friend!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette and his brother, Lawrence Rogelein. Survivors: daughters, Carol Lee and husband Richard, Galveston, TX and Ellen Chavez and husband Rigo, El Paso, TX; sister, Grace Spalten and husband Ed of San Antonio; grandchildren, Robert Clore, Corpus Christi, TX, James Clore and wife Lynn, Galveston, TX, Melisa Plesant and husband Mauricio, Chihuahua, MX, Carolina Pinto, San Diego, CA, Juan Pinto, Berkeley, CA; great grandsons, Benjamin Clore and William Clore, Galveston, TX Mauricio Plesant, and Eduardo Plesant, Chihuahua, MX.

Kenneth James Weir, age 42, of San Antonio was killed in an automobile accident Monday, February 2, 2004.
He was born in San Antonio, Kenneth was known to everyone as “Kenny”. He was a graduate of James Madison High School. Kenny and his wife, Cheryl, owned and operated Fertile Garden Supply, a horticultural and landscaping supply company, specializing in totally organic mulches as well as other residential and commercial landscaping products.
Kenny was a member of the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association. He was an advocate for “pesticide free” landscaping and appeared regularly on WOAI TV’s “Living” program with Leslie Bohl Jones offering viewers tips on gardening. He also appeared on other local television and radio programs.
He loved his family dearly. He enjoyed taking them on vacations to many exotic places. He was especially proud of his son Tyler’s accomplishments in school and sports. Kenny’s hobbies included gardening, fishing and riding his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Weir. Kenny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cheryl; 13 year old son, Tyler; two sisters, Sheila Weir Gonzalez and her husband Gabriel of Universal City and Sara Weir of San Antonio; parents, Jack and Dorthy Weir of Seguin. Pallbearers will be Malcom Beck, Keith Green, Keith Amelung, Gabriel Gonzalez and Arthur Cavazos.

Debra “Debbie” L. Treviño, born August 8, 1951, passed away February 2, 2004 in the loving presence of her family and friends.
A loving daughter, wife, mom, grandmother and friend whose biggest joy in life was simply spending time with her family.
She was a constant source of strength for many and always had room to give more.
She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Abelardo Treviño and granddaughter, Abigail M. Treviño.

Alice Juanita Weston, age 83, of San Antonio, Texas died Sunday, February 1, 2004.
Alice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the youngest of 10 children.
She was a long time member of the Jefferson Church of Christ.

David Maynard Turner, age 68, passed away January 31, 2004, in San Antonio, TX. Born in Seattle, WA, he received his BA, MBA and CPA license, worked for Ernst & Ernst and began an illustrious career in healthcare accounting, which took him to Dayton and Cleveland, OH, and Chicago, IL.
Dave then pursued various independent consulting ventures moving with his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Moore) to Hawaii, Washington D.C., Costa Mesa, CA., and Chattanooga, TN. His most recent service was as CFO for Sino Swearingen Aircraft Corp. of San Antonio, TX. His loving wife, Mary Ann, will miss his joy in birding and gourmet foods.
David and his family enjoyed many family vacations together throughout the years. His four children are: Deborah (Steve) Turner of Yucca Valley, CA, Brenda (Tony) Huemann of Johnsburg, IL, Marsha (Rich) Kolb of Libertyville, IL. and Douglass Maynard (Angie) Turner of Chattanooga, TN. David’s ten grand children, Sierra, A J, Laura, Marcus, Ricky, Donald, Peter, Alison, Erika and Douglass will all remember his love of spectator sports, music and his delightful humor.
Missing conversations over crossword puzzles and opera is his big sister, Annette Marsland of Raleigh, NC. His family, numerous friends, and Sig Ep brothers will smile as they remember Dave’s great mind and sense of humor.

Sydney Frank Reid, age 82, of Universal City, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Georgia Anna Pearl Reid, age 83, who passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2003.
Sydney Frank Reid was born on April 29, 1921 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He joined the Army in 1939 and served for 30 years, retiring in 1969 as a Command Sergeant Major. His career in the Army brought him and his family to many parts of the world, including the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, Washington, Illinois, California, and Texas.
After retiring from the Army, Sydney pursued a second career as a banker in San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Reid retired to San Antonio in 1986.
Georgia Anna Pearl Reid was born on February 8, 1920 in Silverton, Texas, and was raised in Pampa. She moved with her family to Gardena, California in 1940, where she later met Sydney at a USO dance.
They were married
on July 31, 1942, and followed her husband around the world, raising 2 loving children. Anna also enjoyed a career in banking in San Francisco before retiring.
She was an avid gardener all of her life, taking special pride in her roses and amaryllis.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Reid were active in the community, and they made many close friends. They enjoyed Roadrunner camping trips in their RV, bowling with the National 600 Club, playing cards, entertaining friends, and spoiling the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Reid are survived by their son, Sydney William Reid of San Antonio; daughter, Marjorie Hackley of Redwood City, CA; grandchildren, Christine Vines, Sydney Donald Benjamin Reid, Gabriel Reid, and Adam Hackley; and 8 great grandchildren, Anya and Winston Vines, Joshua Sydney, Alexandra, and Benjamin James Reid, and Seth, Sara, and Samuel Hackley.
