Robert C. “Bob” Miley, age 85, of San Antonio, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2004.
Bob started singing as a child and studied voice in Paris, France at the Conservatoire National de Musique. He also studied at The Ecole Normale de Musique.
During his musical studies, he learned French, German, Italian and Russian.
He was a church soloist in both Ohio and Pennsylvania until he was transferred to San Antonio where he has been a member of Coker United Methodist Church since 1984.
His daughter, Michele Andrée Miley preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Colette A. Miley of San Antonio; brother, James C. Miley and wife Margaret of Marion, OH; numerous nieces and nephews.

Emilia H. Lopez

Emilia N. Lopez, age 89, whose husband, José M. Lopez, is San Antonio's last living Medal of Honor recipient, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004 of natural causes.
The Brownsville native was 16 when she and Lopez, a distant relative by marriage, met in 1930.
The two were married
in 1942, about a month after Pearl Harbor and before he enlisted in the Army.
Lopez was awarded the Medal of Honor in April 1945 for single-handedly killing 100 German soldiers in December 1944 and keeping his company from being overrun by the enemy.
The couple moved to San Antonio in 1946.
"Emilia was a very traditional wife and mother, " son-in-law Guy Wickwire said. "She never even had a driver's license. She cooked, cleaned and worked hard and went everywhere with her husband, but always with a wink and a smile."
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, John Lopez and Maggie Wickwire of San Antonio, Candida "Marie" Pierati of Mahopac, NY, Virginia Rogers of Ogden, Utah, and Beatrice Pedraza of Lima, Peru; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Abel Flores of Weslaco.
Monica Suarez

Monica Suarez, age 40, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004.
She was a graduate of UTSA with a Master’s Degree in Education and she taught Special Education at Cole High School.
She was co-owner of the Inn on the River.
Survivors: mother, Mrs. Charlotte Green; father, Arturo Suarez; brother, Arturo Suarez III; numerous nieces, nephews and uncles. She was loved fondly by all.

MSgt Wilbur H. Piet, USAF (Ret.), age 77, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004.
He was a life member of VFW Post 7110, and held various Post and District level offices in District 5 of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Piet; son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Dolores Moreno Piet, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Valerie Ann and William “B.J.” Piet; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Norbert Rager of Dayton, OH; and brother-in-law, Franklin Richards of Dover, DE.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home, Nurses in Touch Community Hospice and Sister Mary Theresa for all their love and support.

Richard R. Stanush, age 63, of San Antonio died Thursday, February 5, 2004.
Richard was a graduate of Brackenridge High School, class of ’59.
He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers.
He retired from City Public Service after 30 years of service.
Richard was a member of the local 500 IBEW Union, and belonged to the Siemering #32 Hermann Sons Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his brother, William Martin Stanush; his father, Ben. F. Stanush.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Dorinda Stanush; sons, Steven Stanush and wife, Sherill, Mark Stanush and wife, Kerry; daughter, Melissa Triplett and husband, Charley, grandchildren, Tyler Stanush, Spencer Stanush, Hailey Stanush, Braden Stanush, a granddaughter due in April; mother, Sally Stanush; numerous family and friends.

MSgt. Joseph Poluka, U.S. Army (Ret) age 80, of San Antonio entered into rest on Monday, February 2, 2004.
Recipient of numerous medals and commendations MSgt. Poluka served 30 years in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Upon retiring from the military he worked for 10 years for the U.S. Postal Service in San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Clara Poluka; sister, Anna Rogosky; brothers, John and Michael Poluka. Survived by his wife, Rita Poluka; son, Jerry Poluka; daughters, Sharon A. Solis and husband, Jaime, and Renate Poluka and Keith Wilson; 6 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Plaskonas and Sue Hama, Hazleton, PA; numerous nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.

Gary Brieden, age 57, passed away February 3, 2004, after courageously battling brain cancer.
Gary graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to have a long career in the electrical field and a second career in real estate.
Gary was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Deanna Watson in 2001. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He lovingly leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Sandy; his daughter, Deborah Prevost, his son Scott, son-in-law, Jeff Prevost; five grandchildren, Brittany and Lindsey Watson, Jonathan, Zachary and Christopher Prevost; and his mother, Clara Brieden; his sisters, Lanelle Westrup and Marlene Groff; and brother, Leonard.
