Col. Jack Howard Farley, US Army Infantry, (Ret.) passed away on December 30, 2003 at the age of 84.
Jack was born on October 7th, 1919 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to James Robert Farley and Mary Edna (Mulvaney) Farley. Jack married
Tawanah Coleman of Ada, Oklahoma on October 21st, 1942.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his oldest son, Lt. John H. Farley who was killed in Vietnam in 1969. He is also preceded by brothers, James C. Farley and Alfred Joe Farley, and sisters, Wanda L. Smith and Mary (Patricia) Cook.
He is survived by son, Richard K. Farley and his wife, Lana of Ingleside, Texas; and daughter, Ann T. Cole of Houston, Texas. He has two grandsons, Dr. Derek A. Farley and wife, Robin of Oak Point, Texas, and Matthew C. Farley and wife, Abigail of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Jack graduated from high school in 1937 and then completed two years of college in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was drafted in 1941, served in the 45th, 76th, and 99th divisions and then left the army as a captain in 1945.
He returned to college and graduated in 1947 from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agricultural economics.
He resumed his army career with the 5th Division and later the 351st Infantry in Trieste, Italy, where he served as a company commander and was promoted to major. He returned to the states in 1952 and was an advisor to the Arkansas National Guard. He was selected and graduated from the Command and General Staff College in 1955. He completed a tour of duty in Korea in 1956 and was then assigned to the Pentagon in 1957 where he was later promoted to lieutenant colonel. From 1962 to 1964, he commanded the 51st Armored Infantry Battalion, 2nd Armored Division and later the 2nd Armored Support Command at Ft. Hood, Texas. In 1964, he was an advisor to the operations section (G3) to the Turkish army, and was promoted to colonel in 1965. He returned to the states in 1966 as Senior Army Advisor to the Michigan National Guard. In 1970, his last assignment was to Ft. Sam Houston and he retired in 1972 as the operations officer of the Fifth U.S. Army.

Hortense Rodriguez Teniente, age 99, of San Antonio died Monday, December 29, 2003.
Hortense’s life, with the help of her husband, was centered around two goals: to raise and educate her children in a Christian environment and to serve God in her church by participating and working in the overall program of the church.
While her children were attending San Antonio public schools, Hortense became involved in PTA activities.
She served as President of the Sidney Lanier PTA for three consecutive terms and later served as an officer of the 5th District PTA for the State of Texas.
She was presented with a PTA Life Membership Pin, an honor of which she was very proud.
As a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, Hortense worked and served in all areas.
Among them the administrative board, the board of trustees, the Council of Ministries and the Sunday School program.
She taught Sunday School for over 20 years and was instrumental in organizing and developing a day-time kindergarten program at Wesley Mission and El Buen Pastor Methodist Church in 1962 and 1963.
She also wrote, produced and directed over ten Christmas and Easter pageants which were presented by the choir and drama departments of her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Refugio Teniente and is survived by her son, Judge Richard Teniente; daughters, Stella Sanders, Mary Louise Perez and husband, Manuel, Helen Castillo and husband, Lou, Alice Salas and husband, Tony all of San Antonio, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sisters, Mary Rodriguez, Olga Starke; brothers, Louis Rodriguez, Rudy Rodriguez, Bobby Rodriguez, Henry Rodriguez, David Rodriguez; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Morningside Manor Nursing Home for their loving care and support.

Margaret (Peggy) Laughead

Margaret Evelyn Ramsdell Laughead, the widow of George J. Laughead, died December 28, 2003.
Peggy was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, the daughter of Evelyn Lenz Ramsdell, a teacher at Alamo Heights High School, and Dr. Marshall Albert Ramsdell, a pediatrician, and moved to Alamo Heights when she was five, graduating from its high school at the age of 16 in 1936.
She attended the University of Texas at Austin, of which both her parents were alumni, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and President of her Delta Delta Delta sorority in 1940.
She spoke four languages, and worked in the Armory as a censor during World War II.
She met George through her cousin Fred Lee in Pennsylvania in and married
him in San Antonio in 1943, traveling with him through several colorful stateside billeting until he left for service overseas.
After the war, they made their home in Alamo Heights, where George entered the grocery business, retiring as Executive Vice President of Handy Andy Supermarkets in 1975.
They benefited from a wide circle of wonderful couples as close friends, with many of whom they enjoyed periodic foreign travel until George’s death in 1989.
Peggy and George were active members of the First Presbyterian Church from 1950, where George served as deacon and elder and Peggy was active with the Christian Assistance Ministry and later as a "godmother."
Peggy was a member of the "Golden Girls" dinner circle of San Antonio Country Club members, a former member of the Oak Hills Country Club, a member and former officer of the Tuesday Musical Club, the Battle of Flowers Association, the PEO, the Monte Vista Garden Club and the Forum, and a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society.
Peggy was a deeply intelligent, sensible, capable, reliable, kind, serene, attractive woman, a fun and charming companion with a lovely laugh, and a loving and steadfast mother and friend, who remained active, gallant and keen-witted to the end.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother William Halley Ramsdell in 2002.
She is survived by older son George Ross Laughead and companion Beth Cullen of San Antonio; and younger son James Marshall Laughead and wife Lisa Laky of Austin, and their young sons Marshall and Jack, whose intelligence and energy brightened their Nama’s last years.
She is also survived by goddaughter Dr. Nancy Francisco Stewart of Anniston, Alabama; sister-in-law Virginia Gahagan Ramsdell, nephew Dr. William Marshall Ramsdell and niece Genie Ramsdell of Austin; nephew Robert Lawrence Ramsdell of Beaumont; niece Kay Ramsdell of Walnut Creek, California; numerous cousins, including Virginia Mershon of Chapel Hill and Dr. Michael Ramsdell of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Pat Ramsdell of Llano, Texas; in-laws Horace and Jane Laughead of Springfield, Pennsylvania; and their families.
Her family specially thanks her many friends for their attentiveness during her final illness, and especially Mary Pat Stumberg and Jean Smith for their recent extra kindnesses capping life-long friendships.
Peggy thanks Dr. Lon Smith for letting her skip chemo for her liver cancer, caregiver Virginia Grimes for helping her maintain her humor and dignity in her last three weeks, and friend Roy Shuptrine for more than 50 years of dealing with her hair.

Mildred Elizabeth Mowbray (nee Maguire), born on February 19, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, passed away December 27, 2003 in San Antonio, Texas.
Millie was a lifelong resident of Chicago and moved to Texas five years ago to be close to her family. Millie, a long time employee of the Metropolitan YMCA of Chicago, was an avid reader who loved history and travel. She enjoyed many hours of volunteer work at the Bensenville Home in Bensenville, Illinois.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bryce and Karen Mowbray of Houston, TX; her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Stephen McCorkle of San Antonio, TX; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Frances Maguire of Arlington, TX; eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Thomas A. Beauch, age 72, of San Antonio, Texas died Wednesday, December 24, 2003.
Thomas was a Retired Master Sergeant of the US Air Force.
He was an active member of Bexar Kiwanis. He served on the Board of Urban Ministries, a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Ann-Arbor Fraternity Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan.
He was a Century Club Alumni of Southwest Texas University and was a retired Board Member of A.G. Bell.
He won the award for the 1988 National Hole In One Association and the award for the George F. Hixson Fellowship in 1999.
Survived by his wife, Janet Beauch; children, Linda Bullard, Jacqueline Hacker, Donna Adams; brother and sister, Birney Beauch and Jacqueline McGee; 6 grandchildren; a niece and a nephew; 4 grand nieces and grand nephews.
