Dreams really do come true, and their colors will be the cobalt blue of hydrangeas in the wedding of Heather Thurman and Michael Bradburn.
"We each had dreams and fantasies about what our future spouse would be like," wrote Thurman. Neither she nor Bradburn imagined spending the rest of their lives together when they both attended the same high school, but fate brought them together in an after school program where each was working to help pay college expenses.
Emotions began taking over, even though Thurman kept telling herself, "I can't let myself love him." She found that this was not possible, and the couple have been together for three years.
Along with finding the perfect soul mate, both dreamed of an outside wedding, but "since we are both worriers, we couldn't chance the rain," the bride-elect wrote. "After having some major discussions about where to have the wedding, a church ceremony was the only way to go."
They decided to get married
at First Baptist in Alcoa, but then faced a dilemma about where to have the reception.
"Again, we were blessed when some friends offered to host the reception at their home," Thurman wrote. "As the wedding plans progressed, we continued to feel like we are dreaming because details began to fall into place. After consulting a talented invitation maker, we designed and created invitations which turned out exactly like we envisioned. We discussed and researched ideas for our wedding cake and another dream became reality. We discussed the use of flowers on the cake and found some pictures to create the perfect cake, and after consulting our caterer, we created the perfect wedding cake."
Choosing the flowers was easy, Thurman wrote.
"Hydrangeas were the first and only flower we discussed and we chose the color of cobalt blue because it was eye catching and memorable," she wrote. "The bridesmaid dresses were found to match the color that we had already selected with a variety of names such as cobalt, cornflower and royal. In our minds we had a specific picture of what we wanted our flower girls to wear. After searching for several months and unable to find dresses that would match our ideas, Michael's mother made the dresses."
The couple plan a two-week honeymoon in Hawaii, creating the perfect ending to the dream that will come true on June 5, Thurman wrote.
"As this dream becomes reality, we are hopeful for the future as we begin our life together as one," she wrote.
Heather Thurman of Alcoa, daughter of Rick and Karen Thurman of Alcoa, will marry Michael Bradburn of Maryville, son of Mike and Christy Bradburn of Maryville, at 6 p.m. June 5 at First Baptist Church, Alcoa. John Lowe will officiate.
Nuptial music will be provided by musicians Jeff Jensen of Maryville, Tyler Patterson of Alcoa and Bethanie Mayes of Alcoa.
Heather Youngblood of Knoxville will be maid of honor. Bridesmaids will be Sarah Anderson and Trish Bradburn, both of Maryville, and Ashley Murr of Alcoa. Flower girls will be Lauren Magill and Kaelee Roberts, both of Maryville.
Jason Magill of Maryville will be best man. Groomsmen will be Chad Sims of Walland, Jacob Deal of Rogersville and Andrew Thurman of Alcoa.
A reception will be held at 7 p.m. at the home of Denny and Cindy Mayes.
A wedding trip is planned to Hawaii.
