Morehead - Hodson (2004-06-01)
The rich colors of red and royal purple will be used in the wedding of June Brides Cover Couple Morgan Morehead and Chad Hodson.
"We decided on red because it represents love's pure hue, a color of intensity and passion," Morehead wrote. "The red is an endless flame (not to mention the color of my `67 Dodge Coronet). The bridesmaids will be wearing claret colored gowns and will carry deep purple orchids. The purple was chosen as a contrast to red because of the richness of the color.
"Purple has always been my favorite color as well as my college's mascot -- the Purple Paladins -- so it only seemed fitting to incorporate it into our ceremony," Morehead wrote. "Chad and I both feel that these colors exemplify the intensity of our relationship."
The couple will say their vows at Broadway United Methodist Church because Morehead's family has been active in that church since her mother was a little girl.
"She and her twin sister were both married icon in the sanctuary, and it was important to me to continue the tradition," Morehead wrote. "We are using pieces of their dress for the ring bearer's pillow. It is important for us to have a church wedding because both of our families are so strongly rooted in faith."
Morehead and Hodson are carrying on another tradition -- Morehead's parents, Mary (Allen) and Lance Morehead, appeared in The Daily Times June Bride section May 30, 1975.
Morehead and Hodson met 10 years ago in high school through a mutual friend.
"It wasn't until we had both graduated from college that our paths crossed again," Morehead wrote. "I had just left South Carolina and had moved back to Tennessee. After spending many nights at home alone, I decided to join the Blount Wellness Center. During my first few nights in the gym, our paths crossed for the first time in six years."
The two talked for awhile and Morehead continued her weekly workouts. She soon found herself at the gym more frequently, hoping to be there when Hodson was working.
Eventually Hodson asked for Morehead's phone number but she was so nervous she gave him her father's cell phone number by accident. After a few weeks, a co-worker coaxed Morehead into calling Hodson and asking him out herself.
"The date didn't go all that well (a Moby concert), but luckily he saw something more and the rest, they say, is history ..." she wrote.
Hodson wrote that he wanted his marriage proposal to be something very special and unique, but also financially feasible. He decided to help Morehead relive the special moments of their relationship and came up with a scavenger hunt on her birthday.
"For the big day I recruited several helpers," Hodson said. "A friend and I made several cards with clues, leading Morgan around Knoxville and Maryville. Each clue led to a destination where a rose awaited along with another clue. The clues led to sites of our best dates (Sir Gooney's) where we played like kids at the park, and where we first kissed (on the deck of her condo). When she arrived to the deck she found candles lit on each step with rose petals leading to me. I knew exactly what I wanted but when she rounded the corner the words left me. All I remember saying before dropping to one knee was, `I love you and this time with you has been the happiest in my life. I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life waking up next to you."'
