SURGOINSVILLE - Carolyn Joyce Caldwell, 63, of 198 Gatewood Road, passed away Wednesday (February 2, 2005) at Vanderbilt Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Caldwell was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a retired employee of Hawkins County School System and a former employee of ITT North Electric.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mary Esther Christian Caldwell, one brother, James Caldwell.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Mellons, Surgoinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Richard Flanary, Church Hill; one step son, Johnny Mellons, Kingsport; one step daughter, Tracy Swinney, Kingsport; six grandchildren, Ashley and Heith Flanary, Brittany, Josh and Amber Swinney and David Mellons; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Edna Caldwell, Church Hill; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lyda and James Harrell, Surgoinsville; Jessie Moore, Church Hill; sister-in-law, Ruth Caldwell, Church Hill; special friends, Ruby Arnold, Estelle Staten and Glenna Lloyd; several neices and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence or the residence of her daughter.
Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alvin Skelton, the Rev. Lonnie Wooten, Jr. and the Rev. John Seymore officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Moore, Gary Harrell, David Harrell, Billy Harrell, Jeff Seals, Josh Seals and Brian Ash and Jim Brady.
Honorary bearers will be Russell Davidson, Dale Vaughn, Kelly Sullivan and Howard Lloyd.

Ethel M. Barrett, 82
CHURCH HILL - Ethel M. Barrett, 82, of 436 East Main Boulevard, went to sleep in the arms of Jesus, Saturday (February 12, 2005) at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barrett was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Mount Olive Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Barrett, one son, George Baker.
She is survived by special niece, Juanita Kern, Church Hill; and special nephew, Steve Barrett, Johnson City; numerous other nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Brian & Greg Baker.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Micky Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Church Hill Memory Gardens.s
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Benton, Paul Kern, Steve Barrett, Burl Smith, Bobby Goad and Dr. Vinaya Belogode.

Sallie Lou Housewright, 80
CHURCH HILL - Sallie Lou Housewright, 80, of 115 Jefferson Drive, passed away Sunday (February 13, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Housewright was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Elm Springs United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard H. Housewright, her parents, John Will and Ruthie Christian Cradic, several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and William Sherfey, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Bernice Housewright, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Sharon and Tony Lynn Sherfey; one sister, Ruthie McPeek, Church Hill; several neices and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gale Flanary officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Springs cemetery.

Alva Crigger Persinger, 76
Morristown, Tn. - Mrs. Alva Crigger Persinger, age 76 of 250 Balch St. Morristown, Tn. passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Morristown Hamblen Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Hawkins County moving to Morristown in later years to work in a furniture factory.
She was the daughter of the late Bob and Maggie Crigger and the wife of the late Horace Persinger. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Dee wolf, Robert, Carl and Rufus Crigger, Hanes and James Armstrong. 2 sisters, Mary Etta Lee and Tilda Gatewood.
She is survived by two sisters, Sara Alice Barrett of Kingsport and Nancy Rhoney of Newton, N.C.. Several nieces and nephews . A very special nephew Jessie Crigger her caretaker and with whom she lived before going to the nursing home and hospital.
At Mrs. Persinger's request there will be no Visitation or Funeral Service. The graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Friday at the Armstrong cemetery on Amis Chapel Rd. . Family and Friends are to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 pm Friday.
Nephews will serve as pallbarers.

Sally Lou Boyd, 99
CHURCH HILL - Sally Lou Boyd, 99, of 308 Grandview Street, passed away Friday ( February 18, 2005) at Brookhaven Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Boyd was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Boyd, son, Larry Boyd, her parents, Thomas and Lynia Mayo Bailey, one brother, Wilbur Bailey, sisters, Lillie Sams, Bobbie Rutledge, Willie "Bill" Amis and Ethel Hurd, grandson, Tommy Boyd, daughter-in-law, Blanche Boyd.
She is survived by two sons, G. T. Boyd, Mount Carmel; Garnie Boyd, Church Hill; four daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Jim Meece, Blountville; Helen and Bill Shelton, Kingsport; Bobbye Jo and Edgar Salley, Johnnie and Bill Ireson both of Church Hill; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Brookhaven Nursing Home and staff, Dr. Kenneth Scott and the First Baptist Church of Church Hill for their kindness.

CHURCH HILL - Irene C. Crawford, 83, of 375 Silver Lake Road, passed away Tuesday (February 22, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Crawford was a native of Knoxville, Iowa but had spent most of her life in Church Hill. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carl Crawford, her parents, William E. & Eva Dykes Christian, three brothers, F. M. Christian, Gus Christian and Delmer Christian.
She is Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Larry Hood, Church Hill; Rita and Joe Gilbert, Greenwood, SC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Shelia Crawford and Benny and Jeannie Crawford, all of Church Hill; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Gerhardt and the Rev. Patrick Hood officiating.

CHURCH HILL - Edna Lee Mulkey, 87, of 134 Old Mill Race Road, passed away Wednesday (February 23, 2005) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mulkey was a native of Wilmington, North Carolina. She had made her home in Church Hill since 1961 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Church Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Mulkey, Sr., one son, James H. "Jay" Mulkey, her parents, Sherman Lee and Edna Hatch Schulken, one brother, Sherman Lee Schulken.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. Jr. and Betty Mulkey, Houston, TX; Sherman Lee and Sally Mulkey, Rogersville; daughter-in-law, Karen Mulkey, Church Hill; 5 grandsons, Jimmy, Byran, Chris, Bradley and Steven Mulkey; three grand-daughters, Melissa Kidd, Jannae Bright and Tricia Frazier; one brother, Col. James E. Schulken, Fredericksburg, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her son, Lee Mulkey, 336 Byington Road, Rogersville.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ron Ramsey officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brad Mulkey, Steve Mulkey, Bryan Mulkey, Chris Mulkey, Justin Mulkey and Jonathan Bright.
