Surgoinsville, Tn. - Thelma Pet "Nannie" Williams, age 89, of 546 Caney valley Loop, Surgoinsville passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Williams was a life long resident of Hawkins County, and was a member of the Plum Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for several years.She was a homemaker and a farmer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn & Kate Skelton Fields, Brother, Kermit Fields and sister, Mary Chapman.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul & Ella Mae Williams of Surgoinsville, Randall & Linda Williams of Church Hill. One daughter and son-in-law, Judy & Gus Johnson of Surgoinsville. Grandchildren, Terry Jones, Kathy Greene and husband John Greene, Stephen Williams and wife Rachel Williams, Michael Williams, Charolette Queen and husband Gregg Queen, Amy Christian and husband John Christian and Erica Mowell and Husband Tony Mowell. Great Grandchildren, Andy Williams, Emily Queen, Corey Christian, Marissa Christian and July Anne Mowell. Sisters, Maude Alley of Church Hill, Lou Roller of Church Hill and Ruby Walters of Surgoinsville.
Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her son, Paul Williams, 533 Caney Valley Loop, Surgoinsville.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Skelton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday at the Plum Grove Church cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers are Bill Jones, John Greene, E.J. Walters, Jr., Michael Williams, Stephen Williams and Wayne Bailey.

Tonya Alisa Ford, 32
CHURCH HILL - Tonya Alisa Ford, 32, of Morning Star Road, went home to be with the Lord when the Angels came on (June 4, 2004) Tonya was born on December 31, 1971.
Tonya was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of Calvary Light House Baptist Church. She was a 1990 graduate of Volunteer High School and was a former employee of Holliston Mills.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Orval T. Ford and maternal grandfather, J. C. Fields, one uncle, Freddie "Shug" Ford.
She is survived by two daughters, Brianna and Taylor Long, Church Hill; her mother, Beverly Fields, Mooresburg; father and step mother, Larry and Dicey Ford, Kingsport; one sister, Brandy Ford, Church Hill; two step brothers, Tim and Bill Oaks; grandmothers, Anna Lee "Nan" Ford and Marjorie Fields; three aunts, Edna Gibbons and husband, Larry, Judy "Bunt" Ford and Joan Hensley and husband, Earl; uncle, Thomas Fields; one great uncle; R. H. Fields; several great aunts and uncles.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P. M. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of grandmother, Anna Lee Ford, 1237 Morning Star Road.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Alvin Skelton and Allen Kidd officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Morning Star cemetery.

Gertrude Jones Evans, 76
CHURCH HILL - Gertrude Elizabeth Jones Evans, 76, of Dehaven Drive, passed away Wednesday (June 9, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Evans was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Jones, her parents, Bob and Alice Sensabaugh Conant, one brother, Garnie Conant, and two sisters, Grace Conant and Lucille Evans.
She is survived by her husband, Gale Evans, Church Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Randall Collier, Surgoinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Robyn Jones, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Chris Collier and wife, Nikki, Brad Collier and wife, Timberly, all of Surgoinsville; Loren Jones, Surgoinsville; Madisyn Jones, Johnson City; one great grand daughter, Adriana Collier; one brother, Guy Conant, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; three sisters, Maude Sivert, Church Hill; Gladys Barnes, Blountville; Margaret Miller, Orlando, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her daughter, Faye Collier, 632 Stoney Point Road, Surgoinsville.
Services will be conducted Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Smith and the Rev. Mike Cutshaw officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Springs cemetery.

Leona Hilton, 86
MOUNT CARMEL - Leona Hilton, 86, of Mount Carmel, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, (June 8, 2004) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hilton was a native of Hancock County but had spent most of her adult life in Hawkins County. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church of Church Hill.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John P. Hilton, her parents, Tyler and Bertha Collins, one sister, Hazel Roberts, one brother, Cecil Collins, son-in-law, Paul Ferrell, Sr., and grandson, Christopher Sutherland.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, John T. Hilton, Church Hill; Danny and Diane Hilton, Conroe, TX; six daughters and sons-in-law, Edith and Gerry Sutherland, Kingsport; Jewel Hilton, Nashville; Helen Ferrell and Debbie Coates, both of Church Hill; Sue and Ray Sutherland, Morristown; Linda "Connie" and Robert Bowman, Bolingbrook, IL; 21 special grandchildren; 20 special great grandchildren; one brother, Dan Collins, Michigan; five sisters, special sister and loving friend, Irene Lifford, Church Hill; Osa Mae Collins, Tazwell, TN; Nellie Roberts and Mable Goins, both of Sneedville; Joy Collins, Morristown; two special nieces, Janice Collier and Lou Arnold, several other nieces and nephews.
God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to me" With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands now rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
Calling hours are from 5:30 to 8:00 P. M. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ron Trent, the Rev. Kenny Hammond and the Rev. Lane officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and her church family of Mountain View Baptist Church will serve as honorary.

Alain Rene Dery, 54
MOUNT CARMEL - Alain Rene Dery, 54, of 145 Crest Drive, passed away Saturday, (July 10, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Dery was a native of Longueuil Quebec, Canada; he lived in Linden, Michigan for several years, and had resided in Mount Carmel for the past 16 years. He was a member of Tri-City Grace Fellowship Church and was owner of Dery Siding and Carpentry Company.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Nation.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Cronkright Dery, Mount Carmel; one son and daughter-in-law, David & Evelyn Dery, Church Hill; four daughters and sons-in-law, Danielle and Gene Brothers, Fenton, Michigan; Nicole and Cameron Schwartz, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Yvette Dery, Church Hill; and Katie and Johnathan Collier, Kingsport; nine grandchildren; his parents, Ildege and Yvette Castonguay Dery, Kingsport; four brothers, Pierre Dery and Normand Dery, both of Kingsport; Ghislain Dery and Jean Claude Dery, both of Quebec, Canada; four sisters, Jocelyne Dery, Linden, Michigan; Marjolaine Purdy, Swartz Creek, Michigan; Louise Dery, Seabring, Florida; Claudette Holbrook, Linden, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Dowell officiating.

Clarence E. Skelton, 65
CHURCH HILL - Clarence E. Skelton, 65, of Church Hill, passed away on Monday (July 12, 2004) after a courageous 17-year battle with multiple sclerosis. He was the son of the late Fred H. and Verna Smith Skelton, and he recently mourned the loss of two special friends, Lee Steadman and Robert More lock.
He was retired from AFG Industries with 25 years of service. He enjoyed farming and, being an enthusiastic sports fan, was a volunteer coach for youth sports teams before his illness. He was a faithful member of McFerrin United Methodist Church. He was a member of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386, the Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons, McPheeters Bend Ruritan Club and the Aluminum, Brick and Glass Workers, Local 256. His faith, family, friends and determination sustained and strengthened him in his struggle with MS. He was a man of courage, humility, dignity and caring who is now walking with angels.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 40 years, Ellen; his loving sons, Todd and Jason; his dear daughter-in-law, Candace; his beloved granddaughter Mia Ryan; a number of cousins; a special cousin, Jim Smith; several aunts and uncles and a host of dearly loved friends.
Visitors may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gale Flanary and the Rev. John Owston officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend cemetery.
His family is grateful for the many relatives and friends who provided support, thoughts and prayers during his final illness. Harvey Long, 86
Church Hill, Tn. - Mr. Eldridge Harvey "H" Long, age 86 of 560 E. Morgan St., Church Hill passed away July 15, 2004 at his residence following a brief illness..
Mr. Long was a native of Hawkins County and moved to Kentucky in the late 1940's where he raised his family. He served in the United States Army during WW II in Japan. He retired from Holland Motor Express in 1980 and returned to Sullivan County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Almira Fuller Long and second wife, Reana Bates long. His parents, Eldridge & Nora Wagner Long. One son, Teddy Joe Long. Two sisters, Lucy Manuel and Louise Valentine. Three brothers, Ross Long, Clarence Long and Willie Long killed in WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Carey Long of the home. One son, Quinn D. Long and wife Judy Long of Louisville, Ky.. One daughter, Nancy Long Scaggs and husband, Robert Scaggs of Campbellsville, Ky. Two step-sons, Blake Roby and wife Randi Robi, Edd Carey and wife Vicki Carey. Two step-daughters, Gerena Connell and husband Larry Connell and Betsy Grills and husband Gary Grills. Three grandchildren, Derrick Skaggs, Roby Skaggs and Tiffany Skaggs. 9 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great grandchildren. One brother, Junior Long of Bristol, Va.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday at at the Morning Star cemetery.
