Frank F. Phillips, 69
CHURCH HILL - Frank F. Phillips, 69, of 783 Old Stage Road, passed away Friday (March 26, 2004) at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Tarboro, North Carolina and had lived in Church Hill since 1960. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill, and was a retired Electrical Engineer with AFG Industries. Frank was a veteran of the US Air Force and Army National Guard and was a former employee of the Justice Department. He was a member of the Gideons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Louise House Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Grindstaff Phillips, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Gena Phillips, Jonesboro; one daughter, Cindy Phillips, of the home; one brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Suzanne Phillips, Clayton, NC; one sister and brother-in-law, Nellie Mae and B. D. Williford, Windsor, NC; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 8:30 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Moore officiating.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Everett Ray Davidson, 81
CHURCH HILL - Everett Ray Davidson. 81, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday (March 24, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center after a short illness, he has gone on to heaven for a reunion with his parents, Clyde and Virgie Davidson and his brothers, John, Herbert and Paul.
Mr. Davidson was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of the Kingsport Press. He was a loving husband and father and a faithful friend.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theo Barrett Davidson, Church Hill; daughters, Lyndell and husband, Mike Hobbs, Janet and husband, Bill Fields, all of Church Hill; son, Don Davidson and wife, Peggy, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Joshua Davidson and wife, Techele, Jessica and Nicholas Davidson, Matthew and Jason Fields; brothers Burgess Davidson and wife, Helen, Dwyett Davidson and wife, Helen, all of Church Hill; sisters, Bert Snapp, Edith Ketron, Bunny Larkins and Shelby and husband, G. C. Begley, all of Church Hill; sisters-in-law, Louise Davidson, Mount Carmel, Minnie Davidson, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 P. M. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his daughters.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 7:00 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Grimes and the Rev. Alvin Skelton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donald Davidsion, Terry Larkins, Nicholas Davidson, Jeff Dotson, Steve Begley and Wes Barrett.

James William Croteau, 51
CHURCH HILL - James William Croteau, 51, of 168 Ridgemont Road, passed away Wednesday (March 24, 2004) at his home following an extended illness.
Mr. Croteau was a native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was veteran of the US Air Force and retired from the 157th New Hampshire Air National Guard as a Senor Master Sgt. and was fuel superintendent. He was Roman Catholic and loved working, fishing, hunting, softball, bowling, a wonderful husband, father, friend, son, brother and grandfather.
He is survived by his Wife, Heidi Rumford Croteau, Church Hill, two sons and daughter-in-law, James W. Jr., and Wife Sheana Croteau, Kingsport; Christopher Croteau and fiancee, April Barr, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Joshua, Christian and Alexis Croteau; three brothers, Arthur Coffey, Lee New Hampshire, Gerald Roy, Austin, Texas and Joseph Croteau, Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
A funeral Mass will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A. M. at Saint Dominicks Catholic Church with Father Gregory officiating, burial will follow in Church Hill Memory Gardens with Military Rites.
Pallbearers will be James W. Croteau, Jr., Christopher D. Croteau, Arthur Coffey, Gerald Roy, Joseph S. Croteau and Larry Williams.

Clyde Earnest (C. E.) McCracken, 71
CHURCH HILL - Clyde Earnest (C. E.) McCracken, 71, of 304 Church Road, passed away Monday (March 22, 2004) at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. McCracken was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bright McCracken, his parents, Neal and Viola Parker McCracken, one brother, Neal Lucian McCracken.
He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Ernest McCracken, Church Hill; Edmound & Cathy McCracken, Kingsport; one daughter, Marcella DeVane, Cocoa, Florida; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two sisters and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Jack Taylor and Joyce Dobbs, all of Church Hill; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Evelyn McCracken, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his brother, Billy McCracken, Church Road, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Maurice Quillen and the Rev. Mark Roberts officiating.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at McPheeters Bend cemetery.

Carrie Marie (Rea) Marsh, 99
CHURCH HILL - Carrie Marie (Rea) Marsh, 99, formerally of 335 W. Main Street, went to sleep peacefully in the arms of Jesus, Friday (March 19, 2004) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center.
Mrs. Marsh was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member of Elm Springs United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and was a former sunday school teacher. She was a charter member of the Church Hill Crewetts of the Church Hill Rescue Squad and along with her late husband operated Marsh Grocery and coal yard for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Marion Marsh, her parents, Lee and Sallie Hutchins Sivert, one sister, Ethel Marsh.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gladys and M. C. Fansler, Church Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Elizabeth Marsh, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Larry Fansler and wife Mary; Pam Livesay and husband, John; Kevin Marsh and wife, Amy; one sister, Beulah Rowland, Church Hill; sister-in-law, Nannie Marsh, Church Hill. A special thanks to the staff of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of her son, Frank Marsh, 337 Adam Street, Church Hill, and the home of her daughter, Gladys Fansler, 212 Oak Street, Church Hill.
Services will be conducted Sunday at 8 P. M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mike Cutshaw and the Rev. Paul Lane officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Springs cemetery.

Dwayne Wayland Arnold, 60
CHURCH HILL - My Sweetheart, Best Friend and Companion, Dwayne Wayland Arnold, 60, of 1504 Christians Bend Road, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday ( March 17, 2004) at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dwayne was a life long resident of Hawkins county and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill and was a retired employee of Fraleys, Inc. Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He was a former member and captain of the Church Hill Rescue Squad and was an EMT. He was a former Instructor for the American Heart Association and was a mining safety instructor, and charter board member of the Goshen Valley Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ophia Smith Arnold.
Survivors include his wife of 40-1/2 years, Linda Christian Arnold, Church Hill; constant companion, "Taz"; one son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Joy Arnold, Church Hill, one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Art Lester, Panama City, FL; four granddaughters who were his pride and joy, Wendy, Katie and Natalie Arnold, and Ariel Lester; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert, Jr., and Lou Arnold, Kingsport; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Christian, Church Hill; step mother-in-law, Lucille Christian, Church Hill; special aunt, Mary Beaver, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; many loving neighbors and friends. A special thanks to our Loving Church family for their love and support during this two year illness. Special thanks to Dr. Millard Lamb and the Oncoloyg staff at Johnson City Medical Center and a special thanks to the nurses who went beyond the call of duty in taking care of our family.

Services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Derek Bell officiating. Eulogy will be given by Jerry Fraley.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Christians Bend cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Christian, Shane Christian, Scott Christian, Mike Arnold, Frank Merrill, Paul Stafford, Bobby Vaughn, Mitch Ward, Logan Hunley and David Hennigar.
Honorary bearers will be members of the Church Hill Rescue Squad.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to the building fund of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill.

CHURCH HILL - Lucille Armstrong Calton, 79, of Church Hill, passed away Sunday (May 16, 2004) at the Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Calton was a life long resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Amis Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of Johnson Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Calton in November of 2003, her parents, William G. & Maude Henard Armstrong, two brothers, Joe C. Armstrong and Lawrence Armstrong.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Robert Davis, Church Hill; Janice and David Harrell, Surgoinsville; and Jerri and Ronnie Ball, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Rhonda Calton, Church Hill; nine grandchildren, Jimbo, Jerrilyn, Mark, Cindi, Daniel, Ronnie, April, Tim and Liz, eight great grandchildren, Austin, Preston, Dakota, Mark, Zack, Hannah, Haleigh and Alexis; one brother & sister-in-law, Clinton "Boot" & Emma Armstrong, Church Hill; special sisters, Dot Graves and Freeda Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 P. M. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the home of her daughter, Janice Harrell, 123 Harrell Court, Surgoinsville.
