Otis Averial Greene
Kingsport - Otis Averial Greene, 77 of Kingsport, passed away Friday, December 28, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Sneedville, TN (Hancock County) he had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was a retired truck driver, a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force and a long time member of the American Legion Hammond Post #3, where he served in the Color Guard. He was a member of Yellow Branch Church in Sneedville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sollie and Myrtle (Roberts) Greene and a brother, Alan Greene.
He is survived by his sisters, Lorene Cantwell, Talbott, TN, Lucille Buttry and husband Gaylon, Knoxville, Loretta Jones and husband J. P., Morristown, Brenda Cox and husband Clarence, Bean Station; brother, Clure Greene and wife Carolyn, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe W. Byrd officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be J. D. Cantwell, Glenn Cantwell, Otis Cantwell, Rodney Jones, Kevin Cantwell, Kyle Cantwell, Blake Cantwell and Christian Taylor. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Hammond Post #3, 1700 Legion Drive, Kingsport, TN 37664.

Brenda Faye (Lawson) Baker
Kingsport - Brenda Faye (Lawson) Baker, age 63 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Thursday (May 15, 2008) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, and was a graduate of Church Hill High School. She was retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center as a Discharge Analyst. Brenda was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Baker, and Timothy Baker; daughter, Rachel Baker; parents, Willard and Emily Church Lawson; sister, Joan Lawson Mitchell; two brothers, Omer Carl Lawson and C.L. Lawson.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert L. "Bobby" Baker, of the home; son, Wesley Baker and wife, Tammy, Knoxville; three grandchildren, Britney Baker, Hailey Chase, and Devon Baker; three sisters, Bertie Mullins, Mt. Carmel, TN, Jennifer Williams, Mt. Carmel, and Lois Greene, Kingsport; three brothers, Jerry Lawson, Kingsport, Paul Lawson, Roswell, New Mexico, George David Lawson, Bristol, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday (May 18, 2008) at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Schuler and Dr. Ed Dillowe officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Music will be provided by Jimmy Don Green and the church choir. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Tilley, Eddie Barrett, Doug Cloud, Steve Johnson, Steve Jones, Sam Yates, Charlie Hunley, Jerry Ervin and Larry Nelson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Robert Luther Phillips
Kingsport - Robert Luther Phillips, 65 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 22, 2008, following an extended illness. He was born in Kingsport on January 28, 1943.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents, John and Inar Barrett Phillips; sisters, Helen, Grace and Glade; and a brother Ray Phillips.
He is the beloved father of daughter, Becky Oquinn and husband T.J.; sons, John Phillips and Dustin Hinkle. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Kathy; his grandchildren, Jesi Oquinn, Tanner Oquinn, Breanna Oquinn and Trent Oquinn; sisters, Hazel Carr and Shirley Sarrica; brother. Hurley Phillips; mother-in-law, Hazel Light and lots of loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 PM, Monday, August 25, 2008 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN with Rev. Bill Cahill officiating.
In honor of his wishes, Luther will be cremated.

W.C. Eaton
Church Hill - W. C. Eaton, 63, of Church Hill, passed away early Sunday morning (August 24, 2008) at Church Hill Health Care & Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County.
W.C. was a graduate of Church Hill High School. He served overseas in Japan with the United States Army. Mr. Eaton was a lifetime member of the Church Hill VFW Post # 9754. He retired from AFG Blue Ridge Plant in Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Rosa Bowery Eaton; his sisters, Emogene Carter, Nellie Roberts, Ollie Mae Hall along with an infant sister, Betty Jo Eaton; brothers, Guy Rex (Sherrill) Eaton, Herbert Eaton along with an infant brother, Robert Lee Eaton & his three half-brothers.
W. C. is survived by his son, James Daniel Eaton & his wife, Christie Sue (Surgoinsville); his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Shanne Eaton & McKinley Shea Eaton; the mother of his son, Carolyn Eaton (Kingsport); his brothers, Larry Eaton (Church Hill), James Eaton & his wife, Sharon (Mount Carmel), Herman Eaton & his wife, Juanita (Kingsport); his sisters, Georgia Barton (Surgoinsville), Mary Alice Long (Morristown), Kathleen Gardner (Kingsport), Patsy Mowell & her husband, J.P. (Kingsport), Cornie Price & her husband, William (Blountville); a half-sister, Helen Smith (Kingsport); a special brother-in-law, Bascom G. Hall (Church Hill); sisters-in-law, Helen Eaton (Surgoinsville) & Jeanette Eaton (Jonesborough) along with several special nieces & special nephews.
A sincere thank-you goes out to the staff of Church Hill Health Care & Rehabilitation Center for the compassion shown during Mr. Eaton’s illness.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday (August 26, 2008) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill or family & friends may also call anytime at the residence of the sister, Cornie Price, 239 Barger Hollow Road in Blountville.
A military graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday (August 27, 2008) at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memorial Gardens by the Hawkins County Color Guard & the Tennessee Army National Guard with Pastor Andy Sensabaugh officiating. Family & friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10: 30 a.m. to go in procession.

William Thornburg, Jr.
Kingsport - William David Thornburg, Jr. 74, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN. Born in Greeneville, TN he had been a resident of Kingsport all his life and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. He was employed at Thornburg Electronics and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Thornburg (October 26, 2007) his parents, William and Anna Gosnell Thornburg; four sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Helen Sage Thornburg; daughters, Beth Thornburg and Stacia Thornburg all of Kingsport; sisters, Dorothy Glover of Gate City and Martha Coley of Wilmington, NC; many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN with Rev. Vern Hall officiating. Music will be provided by Wendy Aistrop.
The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, immediately following the service.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 10 AM Wednesday at Mountain Home National cemetery, Mt Home, TN with the American Legion Post #3/265 and the Tn National Guard performing the rites.

Adra Light Morrison
Surgoinsville - Adra Light Morrison, 88 of Surgoinsville, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital. She was a life long resident of Kingsport.
Adra was preceded in death by husband, Charlie H. Morrison (1973); parents, James and Jane Light; sisters, Anna Belle Light, Clyde Light and Almeda Conkin; brothers, John Henry Light, Merle Light and Clay Light; son-in-law, Doyle Lipe; daughter-in-law, Deborah Morrison.
She is survived by her daughters, Joann Lipe of Surgoinsville and Wilma Willis and husband Wayne of Kingsport; sons, Edward Dale Morrison and wife Kuniko of Melbourne, FL and Dennis Morrison of Kingsport; grandchildren, Tracy, Doyle, Jr., David, Cheryl, Ken, Koh, Joshua and Geoffrey; great grandchildren, Adra Ann, twins: Alec and Drew, Scottie, Brittney, Chelci, Amber and Zachary; sister, Mary Kate Crawford of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Darlene Light, Helen Morrison and Odell Clark all of Kingsport; brother-in-law, Eugene Conkin of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Morrison cemetery (Beech Creek Community) Rogersville, TN, with Virgil Lipe and Harland McDavid officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 PM.

Ronald Steve Hembree
Ronald Steve Hembree, 43, passed away on Sunday (August 17, 2008) in El Salvador following a brief illness.
Steve was born in Wilson, NC and had been a resident of Kingsport most of his life. He graduated from Sullivan North High School in 1983 and for the past several years, Steve had made his home in Katy, Texas where he was employed by the Department of Homeland Security as a Senior Network Administrator.
Steve is preceded in death by his father and mother, Fred E. Hembree and Clara Hembree of Kingsport, Tennessee
Surviving are his wife, Lucrecia Hembree of the home; his daughter, Hope Hembree of Kingsport; his step-children, Marcus Serrano of Canada, Natalie Greaves of Atlanta, Cecilia Serrano of the home; his sister, Wanda Williams of Maryville; brother Sonny Hembree of Kingsport; five nieces, Summer and Chelsey Williams, Alice, Belle and Caroline Hembree; one step-granddaughter, Isabelle Greaves; one grand niece, Braxton Williams; his grandmother, Lucy Gray of Rockfish, NC and several aunts and uncles.
Having visited his wife's homeland, Steve became enamored with the country and its people. Per his wishes, his remains were interred in El Salvador on Friday (August 22, 2008).
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday (September 18, 2008) at Calvary Baptist Church, 1238 Pine Street, Kingsport with Rev. Tiger Brooks, officiating. Music provided by Summer Williams and Ross Anglen. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

James Henry Ray
Kingsport - James Henry Ray, 86 of Kingsport, was called home to Heaven on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Indian Path Medical Center. Born in Lee County, Virginia, he had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He retired from the Tennessee Eastman Corporation in 1985, following 41 years service, where he worked as an operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Beulah Smith Ray; brothers, Cleo Ray, Theodore Ray and Thomas Ray; son-in-law, Jerry Quesenberry.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Sutherland Ray of the home; daughter, Betty Quesenberry of Kingsport; sons, Robert Ray and wife Diane, Roy Ray, Dean Ray and wife Linda all of Kingsport; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister, Lorena Lewis of Southgate, CA; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 11 am to 1 pm Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN.
A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Aaron Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Brookside Manor staff, employees and John for all their kindness and help during the stay of Mr. Ray.
