Velma Knox
Kingsport - Velma Lucille (Dalton) Knox, 86, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday (September 22, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Thorn Hill, TN and had resided in Kingsport for the past 60 years. After moving to Kingsport she joined Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and helped organize the Ladies Auxiliary where she served as their president for many years. Mrs. Knox has belonged to Cedar View Independent Methodist Church for the past 17 years where she taught Sunday School and served various capacities with the Ladies Auxiliary. Velma served for more than 20 years as President of the National Evangelical Methodist Women’s Group. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.C. & Bertha Howerton Dalton; her step-mother, Louise Dalton; her brother, Roy B. Dalton.
Velma is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Rev. T.J. Knox; her daughters, Darlinda Lawson & her husband, Clinton, Janice Gaither & her husband, Sam (both of Kingsport); a son, Carl Knox (Kingsport); 5 grandchildren, Cheryl Kindle & her husband, David, Craig Knox & his wife, Deana, Christe Jennings & her husband, Mike; Jerry Lawson & his wife, Penny; Jason Lawson & his wife, Summer; 12 great grandchildren; her sisters, Ruby Griffie & her husband, Leslie, Edith Dalton & Audrey Spoon & her husband, Frank (all of Morristown, TN); her brothers, Boyd Dalton & his wife, Shirley (Knoxville, TN), M.F. Dalton, Max Dalton & his wife, Betty, Doyle Dalton & his wife, Jeanie (all of Morristown, TN); a sister-in-law, Marie Dalton (Morristown, TN) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday (September 24, 2007) at Cedar View Independent Methodist Church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the church on Monday (September 24, 2007) at 7 p.m. with Dr. Jim Fields, Rev. Robert “Buddy” Legg & Dr. Earl Miller officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday (September 25, 2007) at 12 noon at Oak Hill cemetery with Grandsons & friends serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Cedar View Christian School, P.O. Box 143, Kingsport, TN 37662.

Barbara Dixon
Kingsport - Barbara Colley Dixon, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Dickenson County, Virginia, she had lived in Kingsport for the past six years. She was a 1960 graduate of Grundy High School and was a born again Christian. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all who knew her.
She was was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Lester; her parents, Garland and Dolly (Viers) Colley; and a brother, Michael Colley.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Taylor and husband Jimmie of Germany; granddaughter Erika Muskus and husband Jeremy of Germany; grandson, Derrick Taylor of Virginia; sisters, Janie Yates and husband Sam of Blountville, Peggy Colley of Kingsport and Sandra Anderson and husband Michael of Sandy Hook, VA; brother, Jeffrey Colley and wife Margi of Bristol, TN; nieces, Dana Boyd and Sarah Boyd; nephews, Jason Lester, Bryan Colley and Blake Boyd.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the chapel of Forrest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia where graveside services will follow. Rev. Brian Schuler will officiate.

Stephen Patrick
Bristol, TN - Stephenson Finn Patrick, 61 of Bristol, Tenn, died Monday, September 24, 2007, at Bristol Hospice House. Born on May 30, 1946, he was the son of the late James and Lillie Jordan Patrick. In addition to his parents, Stevie was preceded in death by his brother, David Lynn Patrick. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, dancing and spending time with his friends. Stevie was very special and very loved by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his niece, Angela Patrick Arvin of Paris, KY; nephew, Jimmy Glen Patrick of Kingsport; great-nephew, Stephen Jay Patrick Arvin of Paris, KY; cousins, Ronnie Gentry and Blain Jordan.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Wednesday September 26, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday at Sulphur Springs cemetery, Gray, TN with Rev. Gorton Turnbull officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 AM.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the "Angels" at Frontier Health, Wellmont Hospital and Bristol Hospice House for all they done for Stevie.

Gerald Roger Hammonds
Gerald Roger Hammonds, 58, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday (Sept. 25, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and having lived in Greenville, TN, Athens, TN, and Ashville, NC. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School, loved the harmony and balance of the music in his life. He was of the United Methodist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Smith Hammonds, of the home; sons, Thomas Christopher Hammonds and David Michael Hammonds, both of Kingsport; father, Ballard Hammonds, Kingsport; mother-and father-in-law, Raymond and Betty Jo Smith, Kingsport; brothers-in-law, Rodney, Michael, and Dennis Smith; sisters-in-law, Betsy, Angie, and Bernice.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday (September 28, 2007) at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Pastor Greg Street and Tribal Elder Randall Moore officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.

Helen J. Burk Thorpe
Helen J. Burk Thorpe, 71, Kingsport went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Monday (October 1, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Lifelong resident of Sullivan County, she lived most of her life on Maxwell Street. She retired from Hillside Manor as a CNA-nurse. She was avid in the CB's circle known as The Silver Slipper. She was a member of Mount Nebo Church in Ford town.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hilda Sue Castle; parents, John Vance and Juanita Hamilton Burk; brother, Richard Burk.
She is survived by husband, Cecil Thorpe, of the home; daughters, Charlotte Hardin and husband David, Kingsport, Tina Sharp, Hot Springs, VA; son, George Castle, II and wife Debbie, Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, George Castle III, Justin Castle, Heather Hardin, Kayla Hardin, Leigh Ann Sease, Hunter Sharp; brothers, James Burk, and a special sister-in-law Evelyn, Kingsport, Kenneth Burk and wife Texie, Russellville, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (October 3, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. John Walters officiating.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (October 4, 2007) at East Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be family and friends. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.

Nevada T. Jones
Kingsport - Nevada T. Jones, 78, Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord Wednesday, (October 3, 2007) at her residence.
Born in Pineville, WV, Nevada had lived in Chicago for approximately 30 years before moving to Kingsport in 1989. She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She was proceeded in death by her parents William Tilley and Almeda Kelly Tilley; son, Timothy Douglas Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Jones, of the home; daughters, Mary Taylor and husband Emmett of Church Hill, Betty Sue Babulski, Bullshoals, AR, Rebecca Billings, Coeburn, VA, Diana O'Quinn and husband Bill, Birch leaf, VA, Mary Ann Trivett and husband Douglas, Chilhowie, VA, Julie Ann McGrady, Delaware; sons, David Billings, Kingsport, Daniel Billings and wife Shirley, Kingsport; thirty grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Brooks, Glen Fork, WV, Lucy Halsey and husband Woodrow, Matheney, WV, Willie Faye Pruitt and husband Jack, NC; brothers, Garland Tilley and wife Glendolyn, New Mexico, Riley Tilley and wife Irene, Richmond, VA.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 Saturday (October 6, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Elder Lewis Baker officiating. Music will be provided by Bill O'Quinn.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday (October 7, 2007) at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jerimiah Farmer, Bill O'Quinn, Emmett Taylor, John Skiscim, Tommy Joe Kennedy, Robert Adams, Tony Cook, Kristina Skiscim. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Skiscim.

Phyllis Cierniak
Kingsport - Phyllis Darlene Cierniak, 66, of Kingsport, passed away on Wednesday (October 3, 2007) at the Wexford House after an extended illness.
She was born in Honaker, VA on February 3, 1941 the youngest daughter of the late Fred and Ella Victoria Shephard Miller.
Phyllis was a medical transcriptionist with Tennessee Eastman Company for 29 years until her retirement in 1997.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends.
She was proceeded in death by a sister, Lois Odell Miller; brothers, Cecil Edward and Howard Fay Miller.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas Edward Cierniak of the home; daughter, Bonnie Payne and husband Mike, Kingsport; son, Michael Edward Cierniak and wife Annie, Kingsport; grandchildren, Candie McDonald and husband John, Crystal Payne, Vickie and Thomas Cierniak; great-grandchildren, Cameron Glenn and Jacob Michael McDonald; sisters, Cly Ellen Cloud and husband Wallace, Wisconsin, Ruby Leone Hawkins, Michigan, Zola Marie McDonald, Virginia, Mary Belle Jackson, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 12:00-1:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ralph Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Holston View cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Kingsport - Regina Madalee McLain, 75 of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Hillside Manor Health Care following a brief illness.
Born in Greene County, TN, she had resided in Fall Branch for several years before moving to Kingsport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Sam" McLain; her parents, Champ and Clarinda (Morgan) Riddle; brothers, Furman Riddle, Harrison Riddle and Jim Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter, Nanci Rutledge and fiance Gary Thomas of Kingsport; grandsons, Sr. Airman D. Alan Rutledge U. S. A. F. of Federal Way, Washington and Lance W. Rutledge of Kingsport; sister, Bertie Ricker of Greeneville; brothers, Orville Riddle and wife Phyllis of Chuckey, Jakey Riddle and wife Mary Lee, Bob Riddle and wife Barbara and Hubert Riddle and wife Betty all of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Fall Branch United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Ike Brighton officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fall Branch Volunteer Fire Department, C/O Betty Dawson, P.O. Box 84, Fall Branch, TN 37656.
