Gladys Thompson
Kingsport - Gladys Lamb Thompson, 81 of Kingsport, left this world to live with the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2007, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Leggit Kentucky, Gladys had lived in Kingsport for most of her life. She lived a Christian life, loved growing flowers in her garden and will always be remembered for her unconditional love for her family. Gladys was a member of Good Shepherd Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, McKinnley and Effie (Keaton) Lamb and a grandson, Tim Lewis Maples.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Davis, Church Hill, Evelyn Maples and husband Earnest, Blountville; sons, Kenn Shipley and wife Vickie, Harold Shipley and wife Tenille all of Kingsport, Alan Mounger and wife Vanessa, Florence, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Tammy, Jared, Mariah, Heather, Jonathan, Shannon, Brandon and Tyler; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Opal Johnson, Tazwell, TN; brother, Alton Lamb, Morristown; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Bledsoe officiating. Music will be provided by Carolyn Bledsoe. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Shipley, Junior Bledsoe, Andy Hobbs, Michael Haynes, Alan Mounger and Harold Shipley.

Ramona Renfrow Castle
Kingsport - Ramona Renfrow Castle, 67, of Kingsport, passed away Monday (December 24, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Oklahoma and had lived in South Carolina most of her life. She was retired from First Carolina Title Company, where she served as supervisor. Ramona was an active and supportive member of AA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald G. Castle, Sr.; parents, Elza Ula and Esther Mae Thompson Renfrow; sister, Neta Nichols; brothers, Dale Renfrow, Jerry Renfrow and George Renfrow.
She is survived by William Bennett, whom she was currently engaged to, of South Carolina; daughter, Kay Castle, Kingsport; sons, Donald G. Castle, Jr. and wife Tammy, Morrol, NC, Russell L. Castle, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Joshua Green, Kingsport, Amy McDonald, South Carolina, Amanda Castle, South Carolina; great- grandchildren, Matthew Castle, Kaden McDonald and Addison McDonald; sisters, Shirley Wilson, Kathy McCain, Oklahoma, Jean Taylor, Oklahoma; brothers, Rick Renfrow, Texas, Jim Renfrow, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Entombment service will be 11 a.m. Friday (December 28, 2007) at Southland Memorial Garden, West Columbia, South Carolina with Rev. Grover Williams officiating.

Thomas W. "Tom" Ketron Jr.
Tom Ketron - Kingsport, Thomas W. "Tom" Ketron, Jr. passed away unexpectedly Sunday (December 23, 2007) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, TN (Bloomingdale). He was an avid lifelong farmer and cattle dealer. He retired from Eastman Kodak for over 37 year's service in the C E Division. He attended Arcadia Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Wilson Ketron; parents, Thomas W. and Lucy Hicks Ketron, Sr.; sister, Mary Elizabeth Bridwell; brother, David Bruce Ketron.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas Hal Ketron and wife Sue, Kingsport, Roger W. Ketron and wife Pat, Kingsport, Bill Ketron and wife Kathy, Kingsport, Mike Ketron and wife Patty, Boones Creek, Robert J. Ketron and wife Robin, Kingsport; grandchildren, Lesley White, Julia Madgett, David Ketron, Amy Joyner, Mitch Ketron, Scott Ketron, and Tyler Ketron; sister in law, Marietta Ketron, Kingsport, two nephews, Alan Bridwell, and Richard Bridwell; special friends, Gwen Anderson and family.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday (December 26, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Guy Tilley and Rev Todd Lindamood officiating.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday (December 27, 2007) at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.

Rev. Gene Gale Hughes
Kingsport - Rev. Gene Gale Hughes, 75 went to be with the Lord Wednesday (December 19, 2007) at James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was born in Russell County, Va. and had lived in Ohio for over 25 years and later served in the U.S. Navy. He pastured several different churches in Ohio and also pastured the Fort Robinson Baptist Church in Kingsport along with several others. Later he retired from Gibsontown Mission Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Giles Banner, and Stella Chaffin Hughes; sisters, Joan Breeding, Dorothy Turner, and Francis Hughes; brother, Edward C. Hughes.
Rev. Hughes is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Evelyn Campbell Hughes, of the home; daughter, Katrina Gayle Curtis and husband, Tony, Kingsport; sons, Robin Lewis Hughes, Dayton, Oh., Gary Gene Hughes, Troy, Oh.; grandchildren, Vanessa, Amanda, Jared, Ryan, Ethan, and Micah; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Grace, and Christopher; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday (December 22, 2007) at Fort Robinson Baptist Church.
Funeral Service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Jeff Wallen and Rev. Joe W. Byrd officiating. Music will be provided by Tony & Katrina and Bart Richardson.
Graveside services will be conducted following the funeral service at Stallard Grey cemetery in Midway, Va. with American Legion Post 3/265 and Chaplin Joe W. Byrd. Pallbearers will be Robin Hughes, Gary Hughes, Katrina Curtis, Ethan Hughes, Jared Curtis, and Ryan Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas, Grace, Christopher, James Trent, Chris Sparks, and John Hensley.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are asked to be made to the Volunteers at James H. Quillen Hospital at PO Box 4000 136 B1, Mountain Home, TN 37684.

Fate "Doc" Brown
Fate "Doc" Brown, 88 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on Tuesday (December 18, 2007).
Mr. Brown was born June 6, 1919 in Lafollette, TN to the late John and Rebecca Wood Brown. "Doc" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and favorite uncle. He was a charter member of Higher Ground Baptist Church, and was a retired truck driver of Mason Dixon Freight Line. He was a veteran of War World II, and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a Shriner and Scottish Rites. He was an avid softball player and pitched in the 1952 World Series in Utah. Mr. Brown loved golf, the Lady Vols, and the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Brown Daniels; granddaughter, Kimberly Daniels in 1974; four brothers; one sister.
He is survived by his loving wife Ida of 58 years; daughter, Sharon Brown, Kingsport; sons, Bill Brown, Kingsport, and Chip Brown and his wife Sherry, Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Beth Daniels Skinner and husband John, Nashville, Paul Daniels, Gray, Danielle and Whitney Brown, Johnson City; great granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth Skinner, Nashville; sister, Ada Jackson, Rogersville;Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to the time of service at 1 p.m. on Saturday (December 22, 2007) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow at Highland cemetery in Rogersville with Wayne Bledsoe officiating. Friends may also visit any time at the home.

Gertrude Osborne Bishop
Gertrude Osborne Bishop, 94 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, (December 17, 2007) at Preston Place.
Born in Blackwater, Va. Mrs. Bishop had been a resident of Kingsport for most of her life. She was very active in the Senior Citizens and an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bishop.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Johnson and husband Larry, Mt. Juliet, Tenn; brothers, Carl Osborne and wife Virginia, Blackwater, Va., Woodrow Osborne and wife Sissy, Middletown, Oh.; several nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Blanche Bishop and Inez Bishop.
Calling hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday (December 19, 2007) at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Funeral Service will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Kate Ledwell
Kingsport - Hildred "Kate" (Milhorn) Ledwell, 92 of Kingsport, Tenn., died Friday, December 14, 2007, at Wexford House due to declining health. She was born in Bluff City on January 6, 1915, and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She retired from Eastman Kodak Company in 1973 after working 40 years in the yarn department. Always gifted with a smile and graciousness, she enjoyed keeping her home and yard with her husband Hunter Ledwell. She also enjoyed crafts and sewing in her spare time. She was a member of Saint Matthews United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Ledwell was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Milhorn (1960 d.) and Lucy (Cotter) Milhorn (1966 d.); her husband, Hunter Ledwell; sisters, Nora Milhorn, Emily Milhorn and Dorothy Allen; brothers, Hugh Sam Milhorn, George Milhorn, W.R. "Bud" Milhorn and Lonnie "Man" Milhorn.
She is survived by her nieces, Becky Allen Cowden, Lucille Hilton, Kathy Milhorn Hawk; a nephew, Reese Milhorn and others; step-children, Joyce Banks, Don Ledwell, Glen Ledwell, Stanley Ledwell and Crig Ledwell.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM Monday December 17, 2007 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating. Music will be provided by Kathryn Talley.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.
