Willie McCann Ball
Kingsport - Willie McCann Ball, 78, of Kingsport, was born on January 6, 1928 in Jasper, VA. While being comforted by family and friends, Willie passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Wellmont Hospice House after a couragous three year battle with cancer.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout her life, she touched many lives with her never-ending faith and prayers. Willie was a founding member of "Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ". She let her light shine and was filled with the Holy Ghost.
She was the owner of "Willie's Thrift Center", collecting, buying and selling antiques which was a life-long passion. She was multi-talented - loved quilting, painting, sewing and crafts. An exceptional cook, her specialities being chicken and dumplings, fried pies and just good ole country cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Roberts McCann; four sisters, Della McGaha, Mable Robinson, Elizabeth Allen and Rose Prillhart and three brothers, Rev. Henry McCann, Rev. Frank McCann and Jim McCann.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Harley F. Ball of the home; two daughters, Donna Seaver and husband James "Clete", and Phyllis Blackwell and husband Elmer; three sons, James Ball and wife Peggy, Clyde Denver Ball and Gary Ball and wife Kathy; 10 grandchildren, Scarlett Rhoten and husband Charles, Chad Ball and wife Heather, Michael Seaver and wife Shelley, Vicki McClintock and fiancé Paul Sensabaugh, Jerome Ball, Tammy Seaver and fiancé Sam Riggs, Heather Dillon and husband Donald, Kristin Ball, Jesse Ball and Steven Blackwell; ten great-grandchildren, Austin and Madison Rhoten, Ethan and Emily Dillon, Haley Ball, Kaleb and Jacob Seaver, Nicholas McClintock, Julianne and Jackson Sensabaugh and another grandson expected in October; one sister, Helen Ball and husband Charlie; along with many nieces, nephews and special friends.
A special Thanks to Dr. Moraes of Kingsport Hematology and Oncology and Wellmont Hospice for their loving care and support.
Calling hours are from 4 - 7 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport or anytime at the residence. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Everett Lett, officating. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 7, 2006 at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellmont Hospice House.

Joseph D. Morgan
KINGSPORT - Joseph DeWitt "Joe" Morgan, age 79 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at the home of a daughter, Martha C. Gillette, Jonesborough, TN. Born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, he had lived in Kingsport for fifty years where he worked as a tank line driver with Mason Dixon Truck Lines, retiring after 30 years service. Mr. Morgan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and attended Joyful Praise Ministries in Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Caroline Myers Morgan in 1986, his parents, Samuel and Ethel Caston Morgan, two sisters, , Ruth Washam and Helen Kerns.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha C. Gillette and husband Delbert of Jonesborough, sons, Dee Morgan and wife Patty and John W. Morgan and wife Amy all of Kingsport, grandchildren, Israel Gillette, Nathaniel Gillette and Sarah Gillette, step-granddaughter, Cindy Wines, step-great grandchildren, Lance and Ian, sisters, Sarah McEnerney of Chicago, IL and Violet Robinette of Cornelius, NC, brother Elmer Morgan of Marietta, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM on Wednesday July 5, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call anytime at the residence of a son, Dee Morgan, 3947 Skyland Drive, Kingsport, TN.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Henry J. Allen
KINGSPORT - Henry J. Allen, 95 of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Charlottesville, VA, Mr. Allen had lived in the Kingsport area for over 65 years. He worked as a mechanic for Tennessee Eastman Company, retiring after 34 years service and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lane Allen in 1980, a son, Johnny allen in 1979 and his parents, Andrew Jackson Allen and Georgia Leana Chrisholm Allen.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Sue Hines and husband Robert of Margate, FL and Judy Allen; a son Elige Allen of Kingsport; grandchildren, Angie Allen, Dawn Allen-Pruitt, Scott Allen and Lisa Allen-Reeves; six great-grandchildren; a bother, Roy Allen of Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday July 3, 2006 at Oak Hill cemetery with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:55 PM.

John Howard Poteat
KINGSPORT - John H. Poteat, 93 of Fairidge Drive, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Bakersville, North Carolina on December 1, 1912, John Howard Poteat was the son of the late F. Bela and Viola (Phillips) Poteat. He was a graduate of Jonesboro High School, attended State Teacher's College (now ETSU) and the Tennessee Medical School in Memphis.
Since coming to Kingsport, Mr. Poteat had been involved in several business and civic ventures and owned two farms. He was the owner of Poteat Oil Company, owned and operated a truck stop on I-81, and was a founding director of Bank of Tennessee where he served as vice chairman and on the loan committee. He also served with the East Tennessee Production Credit Association for twenty-seven years. In recent years he had also been active in creating residential communities on his farms. ETSU, where he helped establish the Poteat Chair of Banking, Carson-Newman College, where he was a major donor to the Blye-Poteat Building for Consumer Sciences, and the First Baptist Churches of Jonesborough and Kingsport, were among his several philanthropic interests. He served as a senior deacon of the First Baptist Church of Kingsport.
Mr. Poteat was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Whitlock Poteat, who died in 2002, a sister, Ann Childress of Avon Park, FL and a brother, F. B. "Dick" Poteat of Jonesborough.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty P. Olds and husband Dan W. of Spartanburg, SC; grandaughter, Linda O. Burrell of Moore, SC; grandson, John R. Olds and wife Melinda of Dunwoody, GA; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Burrell, Maranda Burrell and Davis Olds; sister, Becky Sims of Jonesborough; brother, James M. Poteat of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 12:30-2:00 PM on Tuesday June 20, 2006 at First Baptist Church of Kingsport.
Services will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Steve Poteat, Paul Spears, Jeff Anderson, David Nowell, Bryan Larkins, Jack Thweatt, James Stapleton, Robert Hilton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Big Brothers Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church and Officers and Directors of Bank of Tennessee.
The family is grateful to his caretakers, Ernestine, Dale, Martha, Helen, Kay and Patti for the excellent care he received over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the College Scholarship Fund of the First Baptist Church of Kingsport, 200 West Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660 or to the charity of one's choice.

Pauline Whitehead Dobroski
Pauline Whitehead Dobroski, age 78 of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday June 17, 2006 at Sunbridge Hillside Manor. She was born in West Point, Ohio, where she had lived her entire life, before moving to this area eight months ago.
Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Gentile and husband Mike, Diane Will and husband George, Paula Elrod and husband Dennis and Karen Johnson and Scott, son, David M. Dobroski and wife Doreen.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio with Pastor Larry Baldridge officiating.
Graveside services will be coducted Friday June 23, 2006 at Holy Cross cemetery in Akron, Ohio.

Carl Allen Aesque

KINGSPORT - Carl Allen "Set Screw" Aesque, age 73 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 3:30 PM at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN.
He was born in Kingsport, where he had lived his whole life and was a member of Weber City Church of God. He was employed at J P Stevens Cotton Mill where he dedicated 45 years of work without any missed days. He fought in the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was the world's best husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maggie Aesque; stepmother, Opal Aesque; two brothers, Charles "Fats" Aesque and Paris "Pete" Aesque.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Tribble) Aesque of Kingsport, six daughters; Rhonda White, Teresa Newton and husband Jim, Terry Slaughter, Morgan Tribble and Whitney Tribble, all of Kingsport; Betsy Aesque of North Carolina; son, Doug Aesque of Kingsport; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Etta A. Smith of Kingsport and Delores A. Simmons and husband Jerry of Jarrett, VA; sister-in-law, Edith Inez Aesque of Blountville; several nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Hannah Banana and Lady Bugs.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 PM on Friday June 16, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Raymond Hammonds officiating. Pallbearers will be Roy Begley, Bill Gilliam, Alfred Baker, Terry Guy, Delmar Ashworth and Stephen Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at Oak Hill cemetery with VFW Post #3382 performing the rites. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Carter-Trent Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1129 Kingsport, TN 37662, to assist them financially with the funeral expenses.

James Richard Light
Kingsport - James Richard "Jim" Light, 89, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
James was born in Kingsport, where he had lived all of his life and was an employee of Eastman Kodak retiring after 39 years of service. James was an avid fisherman and love the Atlanta Braves. He had a smile for everyone he came in contact with. He was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church where he had served on the administrative board for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kate Coates Light in 1996; his parents, Laney and Maggie Light; 2 sisters, Lucille Light and Mildred Mellons; an infant brother; son-in-law, Joe E. McCarroll; grandson-in-law, Anthony Beeler and a special "Brother-in-Heart", Ellis Light.
Surviving are his two daughters, Charlotte Carter and husband Jim and Linda F. McCarroll all of Kingsport; his son, Buford Light and wife Brenda of Church Hill, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anna Lee Jones of Kingsport; along several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5-7 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Vermont United Methodist Church, 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the church with Pastor Steve Burkhart, officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Carter, John Carter, Steven McCarroll, Jamey Lane, Norman Aldridge, Jack Osborne, Danny Blankenbeckler, and Bill Sons. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 1:55 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont United Methodist Church, Attn: Love Meals, 1817 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, 37660.

Kingsport - Billy Joe Clark, 53, of Kingsport, passed away at 1:05 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at his home.
He was of the Baptist faith and a retired painter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Franklin, II and Mary Ruby Bernard Clark and a brother, Paul Bernard.
Surviving are his wife Donna Ann Clark of the home; two daughters, Crystal Carole Clark of Kingsport and Jennifer Marie Walker of Arkansas; one son, Micky Joe Clark of Kingsport; two step-sons, James Franklin "J" Clark, IV and wife Sabrina of Kingsport and Samuel Anderson "Sam" Clark and wife Tonia of Church Hill; 10 grandchildren, Emily Carole Jones, Jessica, Gracie, Jacob, Jacob Brody Clark, Jackson Tucker Clark, Wesley Blaine Parker, Kylee Dawn Clark, Zachary Tyler Ward, and Caleb Isaac Ward; three brothers, James Franklin Clark, III of Church Hill; Ralph Bernard of Piney Flats and Rass Bernard of Greensboro, TN
