Robert L. Smith, 79, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2011) at his residence. He was a native of Lincoln County, the son of the late L.P. and Velma Collins Smith. Mr. Smith was a maintenance worker and of the Protestant faith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye Poston; second wife, Laura Dykes Smith; and grandmother, Effie Collins. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy (Don) Bankston and Cynthia (Buck) Whitaker, all of Fayetteville; son, Robert D. (Debbie) Smith of Covington, Ga.; brother, Don Wayne (Janice) Smith of Huntsville, Ala.; six granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services were conducted Thursday morning at Riverview Memorial Gardens with Bro. Billy Fowler officiating. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Annie R. Dollar Swinford of Fayetteville died Thursday (Jan. 6, 2011) at her residence. She was 89. Mrs. Swinford was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Ollie and Beddie Simms Dollar. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. Survivors include four sons, Charles Swinford and wife Barbara, Raymond Swinford and wife Norma, all of Fayetteville, and James Swinford and wife Peggy and Roy Swinford of Taft, grandchildren Todd Swinford, Ray Swinford, Laronda Naumoff, Talisa Towry, Kim Carly, Stefanie Fikes, Christy Cranfill, and Travis Swinford, and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters Lucille Dollar Mason and Mary Magdelene Dollar Johnston and a brother, A. D. Dollar. Funeral services for Mrs. were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Don Russell officiating. Burial followed in Kirkland cemetery beside her husband, Johnson Swinford. Ruby Lee Williams Sydnes of Fayetteville Saturday morning (Jan. 8, 2011) in Lincoln Care Center. She was 88. A native of Florida, she was a daughter of the late Audley and Lessie Crutchfield Williams, retired from Redstone Arsenal, and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include sons, Bill Sydnes and wife Janice of Bryn Mawr, Penn., and Jim Sydnes and wife Debbie of Fayetteville, brother Gene Williams of North Carolina, 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Alice Smith of Fayetteville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Willie Williams Register, and brothers, James and Johnny Williams. Graveside funeral services were to be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at Kirkland cemetery. Visitation with the family was to be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Higgins Funeral Home. J.B. Brown, 82, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday (April 27, 2011) at Lincoln Medical Center. Mr. Brown was a farmer and attended the Hazel Green Church of God Prophecy. Survivors include his daughters, Teresa Patterson of Fayetteville, Diane Shavers of Lynchburg and Lisa Holcomb of Hazel Green, Ala.; grandchildren, Joey Patterson, Paul Holcomb, Bryan Patterson and Will Shavers. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold St. Clair officiating. Burial was beside his late wife, Nancy J. Clifford Wayne Cothem, 57, of Ardmore, Ala., died Tuesday (April 26, 2011) at his home in Ardmore. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bro. Lynn Marshall officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Toney, Ala. Elbert Dugan, 86, of Hazel Green, Ala., died Thursday (April 28, 2011) at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with burial in Briar Fork cemetery. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lois Grant, 50, of Huntsville, Ala., died Wednesday (April 27, 2011) at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Hazel Green Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roy Hardin, 65, of Fayetteville, died Thursday (April 28, 2011) at Harton Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hardin was a native of Lincoln County, the son of the late Roy and Jewell Bailey Hardin, Sr. He was a brick mason. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Hardin, and brother, James Rufus Buchanan. Survivors include his wife, Norma Clutts Hardin of Fayetteville; daughters, Madilyn Hardin, Monica Hardin, both of Fayetteville, Jewell Loyd of Murfreesboro, Theresa Hardin, Elizabeth Hardin, both of Fayetteville; sons, Roy D. Hardin, Corey Hardin, Nicholas Hardin, Christopher Hardin, Roy Hardin, all of Fayetteville; brother, Richard Hardin of Alabama; and several grandchildren. Elizabeth Hargrove, 93, of Elkmont, Ala., died Friday (April 29, 2011) at her home in Elkmont. Tom Hensley, 61, of Unionville, died Tuesday (April 26, 2011) in Nashville. Mr. Hensley was born in Marshall County and was a son of the late Douglas Wilford and Alice Elizabeth Trew Hensley. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1969 until 1980. Mr. Hensley was a Chrysler Sales Consultant for Beaman Dodge of Murfreesboro. Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ronie Hensley, Unionville; son, Brandon (Kelly) Hensley, Ft. Collins, Colo.; two grandsons, Jacob and Noah Hensley; sisters, Marie (David) Cochran, Culleoka, and Marjorie (Dan) Jacobs, Armada, Mich.; brothers, Doug (Pam) Hensley, Huntsville, Ala., Jimmy Hensley and (Jean), Lynchburg, Michael Hensley and (Belinda), Tullahoma; former daughter-in-law, Natalie Hensley. Rosa Lee Vaughn Honea, 85, of Fayetteville, died Saturday morning (April 30, 2011) at Fayetteville Care and Rehab. A native of Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Will and Edith Sims Vaughn, retired from Serbin and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Rita Smith, and husband, Jerome, of Fayetteville; son, Ralph Honea, and fiancee, Jimmie Lou Bradford, of Shelbyville; brothers, Sonny Vaughn and wife, Edna, James Vaughn and wife, Brenda, both of Yukon community; sister, June Thompson of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Mrs. Honea was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Blackie Vaughn, and sisters, Lucille Coats and Liz Honea. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jenny MacDonald, 65, of Fayetteville, died Monday (April 25, 2011) at her residence. Mrs. MacDonald was born in Sewanee and raised in Sherwood. She was the daughter of Mildred Bradford and the late William Henry Bradford. She was a teacher and of the Church of Christ faith. Along with her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Todd Bradford. Survivors include her husband, Ronald MacDonald of Fayetteville; sons, Scott and Kristi MacDonald of Huntsville, Ala., Jeff and Carla MacDonald of Fayetteville; grandchildren, William MacDonald, Kimberly MacDonald, Addison MacDonald; mother, Mildred Bradford of Nashville; sisters, Henrietta Bradford of White Bluff, Ann Bradford of Nashville; and her, Joe Bradford of Nashville. Mildred Irene May Raby, 89, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (April 26, 2011) at Donalson Care Center. She was the daughter of the late William Robert and Daisy Dean Woods May and was employed by Serbin Fashions and S&M Manufacturing for 32 years. Mrs. Raby was married to Cecil Alton Raby, who passed away in 1989. She was a member of the Park City Baptist Church where she and Mr. Raby were both charter members. Survivors include sons, Joe Wayne Raby and wife, Alice, Terry Alton Raby and wife, Nancy, William Brent Raby and wife, Karen; grandsons, Danial Terry Raby, David Wayne Raby, Brent Lee Raby and Michael Todd Young; granddaughters, Tina McKin, Kimberly Raby, Dawn Raymond, Teresa Kennedy, Shannon Sarino and Stephanie Raby; and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Russell officiating. Burial followed in Lincoln cemetery. Dorothy Geraldine Warren, 83, of Kelso, died Monday (April 25, 2011) at Donalson Care Center. Miss Warren was a native of Cordell, Okla., the daughter of the late Neal E. and Mamie Lou Murray Warren. She was a bookkeeper and secretary and a member of the Corders Crossroads Church of Christ. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Hutchins and Vicie Gray; and brothers, Gladys, Marvin, Ernest, Henry and Walter Warren. Survivors include her sister, Lucy Breeden of Oklahoma City, Okla.; brothers, Paul Warren and Lee Warren, both of Kelso, and James Warren of South Holland, Ill. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Dennis Kimery officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Memorial Gardens. James M. "Big" Hargrove, 95, of Ardmore, died Saturday (May 28, 2011) at Ardmore on Main in Ardmore. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with burial in Pettusville cemetery in Elkmont, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor Griffin Holland, 90, of the Hot Rock Community, died Tuesday morning (May 24, 2011) in Donalson Care Center after a long illness. She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Ordie Dee and Lela Maude Minor Griffin. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Mann and husband, Ray, of Flintville, Florine Carter Copeland of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Wilma Holland of the Hot Rock Community; grandchildren, Darren Holland and wife, Missy, Teddy Holland and wife, Lindsey, William Carter and wife, Tammy, Scotty Mann and wife, Nickie, Tracy Dunn and husband, Mickey, Shawn Mann and wife, Tina, Leann Carter Body, Jason Hambrick, Stanley Mann and wife, Kim; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Holland; daughter, Maxine Hambrick Scott; and son, Ronnie Holland. Susan Frye Jackson, 57, of Fayetteville, died Monday (May 23, 2011) at the Huntsville Hospital. Mrs. Jackson was a native of Bridgeport, Ala., the daughter of John William and Ella Mae Martin Frye, who survive. She was a district manager for Mercury Finance, an Air Force Veteran and a member of Howell Hill Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Dennis G. Jackson of Fayetteville; daughters, Candance King-Felts of Green Brier, Candy Jackson of Hendersonville, N.C.; son, Matthew Jackson of Fayetteville; brother, William Frye of Farmerville, Ala.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted morning in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. John Hinson officiating. Burial followed in Campbell cemetery. Homer Knox, 79, of Mulberry, died Thursday (May 26, 2011) at Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Knox was a native of Loudon County, the son of the late Edward and Ruby Marie Ryans Knox. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and he worked at Stanley Tool & Maintenance for 21 years. He was a member of Brown Teal Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Shelby Knox of Mulberry; daughters, Tina Marie Musick of Mulberry, Michelle Renee Roller of the Harms Community; sons, Ronnie Knox of the Mimosa Community, Edward Knox of Stockbridge, Ga.; sister, Annette Brookshire of Dalton, Ga.; brothers, Frank Knox of Dalton, Ga., Steve Knox of Philadelphia, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday evening in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with the Revs. Tim Shields and Don Gatlin officiating. George H. McKay, Jr., 79, a longtime resident of Fayetteville, died Friday (May 20, 2011) at Walton Regional Medical Center in Monroe, Ga. Mr. McKay was born Feb. 11, 1932 in Parrotsville. He graduated from Cookeville High School and Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. McKay served in the United States Army and then joined the government as a member of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in 1958 as a consulting physicist with the Von Braun group at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala. In 1960, the group was transferred to the newly created National Aeronautics and Space Administration. During the Apollo moon missions, Mr. McKay served as Chief of the Flight Evaluation Staff. He was also involved in the development of the first international manned space mission, the space shuttle program and Skylab. An ordained deacon, Mr. McKay was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe, where he taught Sunday School. His love of music had led him to assume the role of interim music director in several churches throughout his life. Preceding him in death are his parents, George and Artie McKay of Cookeville. He is survived by his wife, Edith Creel McKay; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Rick Morgan; son, George McKay III; and granddaughter, Tristen McKay. A memorial service was held on Monday morning at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. The service was officiated by The Revs. Glen Money and Don Fuller. The family requests that any honorariums in memory of Mr. McKay be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or the City of Hope (www.cityofhope.org). Arrangements by SouthCare Cremation Society and Memorial Centers in Marietta.

Ina Mae Stone Tipton, 88, of Elora, died Thursday evening (May 26, 2011) in Lincoln Medical Center. She was a native of Madison County, Ala., and the daughter of the late Tommy and Alma Cowley Stone. She was a former employee of Serbin Fashions and a member of the Donaldson Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, James E. Tipton of Elora; two daughters, Judy Robinson and husband, Glenn, and Cathy Thornton and husband, Wayne, all of Flintville; two sons, Lyle Tipton and wife, Martha, of Fayetteville and Keith Tipton of Elora; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ilene Daniel, and daughter-in-law, Angela Tipton. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Schultz officiating. Burial followed in Miller cemetery in Plevna, Ala. George Ed White, 86, of Fayetteville died Thursday evening (May 26, 2011) at Donalson Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Bertha Noah White, a retired appliance repair technician and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pinkstaff White of Fayetteville; four daughters, Debbie Taylor, Diane Clark and husband, Porter, Joy Denise Jean and husband, Tim, all of Fayetteville, and Delane Grissom and husband, Lane, of Chapel Hill; four sons, Eddie White and wife, Martha, of Fayetteville, Jimmy White and wife, Jo Ann, of Hazel Green, Ala., Rick White and wife, Paula, and Randy White, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Annie Lar Goebol of Alpharetta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. David G. Arnold, of Sacramento, Calif., died Tuesday (June 14, 2011) in Sacramento. He was the son of Lois Oldfield Arnold and the late Robert Arnold. He was a construction laborer. Survivors include his mother, Lois Arnold; brothers, Kelvin Arnold and Lyle (Michelle) Arnold; sister, Brenda (Richard) Klein; nephews Andrew Arnold, Joseph, Paul and Richard Klein. Susie Ruth Brown, 87, of Madison Heights, Mich., died Sunday (June 19, 2011) in Madison Heights. She was a native of Lincoln County, the daughter of the late Simon Peter and Della Lou Jacobs Smartt. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Douglas Brown; son, Garland Duwayne Brown, and daughters, Jan and Ann Brown; sister, Dora Simmons; and brothers; Pleas Smartt and Merlin Smartt. Survivors include her daughter, Melody Brown of Madison Heights; grandchildren, Lindsay Batozynski, Evan Batozynski, Jennifer Brown, Heather Tate, Hope Tate; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Daniel and Alicia Freeman; and sister, Christine Simmons of Fayetteville. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with the Rev. Lon Ostrzycki officiating. Burial followed in Stateline cemetery.
