Mary Moyers Harless
Former Oak Ridge resident
Mary Pauline Moyers Harless, 74, of Farragut, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mrs. Harless was a former resident of Oak Ridge and had worked at area drugstores and The Bakery. She left Oak Ridge in the late 1950s.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Concord and was active in the Keenagers. She was also active in Dixie Lee Baptist Church, the American Association of Retired Persons and Bible Study Fellowship.
She was the widow of James W. "Buddy" Harless. Her parents, Henry and Rozella Moyers, and a brother, Henry D. Moyers, are also deceased.
Mrs. Harless is survived by three daughters, Peggy Burnett and her husband, Mitch, Anita Loupe and her husband, David, all of Knoxville, and Linda Larsen of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; a son, Jim Harless and his wife, Melanie, of Oak Ridge; and four grandchildren, Angela Ivey, Nikki Harless, Rebecca Loupe and Hilarie Burnett, all of Knoxville.
She is also survived by a sister and a brother, Nell Blevins and Ben Moyers, both of Knoxville.
The funeral will be at 8 tonight, Nov. 3, at First Baptist Church of Concord with the Rev. Bob Sessoms and the Rev. Dave Hyers officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Knoxville, to proceed to Graveston cemetery for a 10:30 graveside service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.
Jeanette A. Bunworth
Sister of Yolanda Poutsma
Jeanette A. Bunworth, 71, of West Knoxville, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mrs. Bunworth was the sister of Yolanda Poutsma of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Knoxville.
She was the widow of Thomas Michael Bunworth Jr.
In addition to her sister and sister's husband, Marvin Poutsma, Mrs. Bunworth is survived by a niece she considered special, Julie Guilfoil of Lexington, Ky.; and by several other nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
A funeral Mass was to be held at 10:30 this morning, May 19, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with the Rev. John Dowling officiating.
Burial will follow at the Tennessee Veterans cemetery.

Kathryn A. Bolton

Kathryn Ashe Bolton, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bolton was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was born in Knoxville on Nov. 25, 1915, the daughter of Thomas F. and Katie O'Bryne Ashe. She had been active with a local bridge club and with the senior exercise class at the Oak Ridge Civic Center.
Mrs. Bolton is survived by a daughter, Kay Brackney of Oak Ridge; a son, Gregory Bolton and his wife, Chong, of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Evelyn Haws and Elizabeth A. Grace, both of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Kelly Stokes of Clarksville and Debbie Gronstrom of Clinton; and by four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Stokes, Andrew Stokes, Everett Gronstrom and Walker Gronstrom.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 tonight, Sept. 23, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Gilbert Diaz officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Highland Memorial cemetery in Knoxville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the mortuary.

Raymond Eskridge Jr.
Retired from ORNL
Raymond Eskridge Jr., of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Eskridge had retired after 40 years of employment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
He was a long standing and devoted member of Little Leaf Baptist Church in Oliver Springs, the family said, and had served in many positions at the church. He was also a member of the 103 Harriman Junction Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Born in Roane County, he was son of Lennie Coleman of Oliver Springs and Raymond Eskridge Sr. , now deceased.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Eskridge is survived by his wife, Anna Rose Eskridge; two daughters and their husbands, Delores A. and Glen Steele and Vivian and Kenny Smith, all of Knoxville; a son and his wife, Norman and Audrey Eskridge of Jefferson City; and two sisters, Rosie Jones of Rockwood and Margaret Smith of Harriman.
He is also survived by a cousin, J.C. Eskridge of Rockwood; five sisters-in-law, Hazel Robinson, Theresa Fritts and Beatrice Fritts, all of Oliver Springs, Betty Fritts of Nashville and Margaret Harris of Knoxville; three brothers-in-law, Hershel Fritts and Curtis Fritts, both of Oliver Springs, and Robert Fritts of Nashville; and by eight grandchildren, a great-grandchild, two aunts, two uncles, and several nieces, nephews and other in-laws.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Little Leaf Baptist Church in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Thomas Dews officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Mary H. Newman
Established ORNL library
Mary Holiat Newman, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mrs. Newman worked primarily in the fields of library and information science, beginning at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1947. At ORNL, she established the Biology Division library for Alexander Hollaender. She also worked with Capt. Hyman Rickover and obtained documents for him while he was a member of the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology.
Mrs. Newman later worked at the Office of Scientific and Technical Information for the U.S. Department of Energy. She retired from DOE approximately 10 years ago.
She grew up in Rome, N.Y., and graduated from Barnard College in New York City in 1943 with a degree in chemistry. She was the daughter of Leo and Anastasia Holiat of Glen Falls, N.Y.
Mrs. Newman had a lifelong interest in the arts and architecture and was a charter member of the Arts Guild of Oak Ridge.
She is survived by her husband, Lorne T. Newman of 311 West Outer Drive; two sons, Michael Newman and his wife, Nancy, of Knoxville, and Kevin Newman and his wife, Faye, of Mary Esther, Fla.; a daughter, Christine Newman of Chicago; and a granddaughter, Loran, in Florida.
No service will be held.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Newman home at 311 West Outer Drive.

Barbara Jean Cox Lowe

Barbara Jean Cox Lowe, 61, of Woodhaven, Mich., formerly of Beech Grove, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Mich.
Mrs. Lowe is survived by her husband, Dean Lowe, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a daughter, Debra Lowe, of Woodhaven; four sons, Larry Lowe of Ypsilanti, Darrell Lowe of Wyandotte, Mich., and John Wayne Lowe and Jimmy Scott Lowe, both of Woodhaven; and four brothers, James Cox of Lake City, George Cox of Toledo, Ohio, Fred Cox of Detroit, Mich., and Paul Cox of Woodhaven.
The funeral was held at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Judd Barnes officiating.
A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, Oct. 7, at Vasper cemetery in Caryville.
Kenneth Gordon Jones
Native of Oak Ridge
Kenneth Gordon Jones, 32, of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, in Jeddah.
Mr. Jones was born in Oak Ridge on Nov. 28, 1964, the son of Carlen Gordon and Jean Granstaff Jones of 147 Nebraska Avenue. He was a 1983 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and during his high school years worked as a lifeguard at both the pool at the Oak Ridge Civic Center and at the Outdoor Municipal Pool.
A 1988 graduate of the University of Tennessee, he held a bachelor of arts degree in geography and economics. As a UT student, Mr. Jones participated in Operation Crossroads and worked as a volunteer in the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa.
He was a volunteer with the Peace Corps in 1988 and 1989 in Ghana and was district project manager and technician. Mr. Jones served his graduate internship in 1990-1991 with Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County as a housing rehabilitation coordinator.
From 1992 to 1995, he taught at the Sundai Language School in Tokyo, Japan, and briefly taught at the Tennessee Meiji Gakuin High School in Sweetwater. He also served an internship in Rabat, Morocco, in 1996 and taught briefly at Bentley College in Boston, Mass.
Mr. Jones received his master's degree in international administration from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vt., in 1991, and his master of arts in teaching in 1997.
Since March, Mr. Jones had been employed as lead teacher with the ELS Language Center in Jeddah.
His hobbies included white-water kayaking, jogging and playing the guitar. While in Japan, he earned his Black Belt in the Aikido martial arts. He was also a certified scuba diver.
Mr. Jones was a member of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Beverly Jones Monahan and her husband, Gerald, of San Bernardino, Calif.; a niece and a nephew, Denise and Jeremy Monahan of San Bernardino; two uncles, Albert Wade Jones and his wife, Betty Ann, of Signal Mountain, and Dr. Robert Sidney Jones and his wife, Jeanne, of Bluffton, S.C.; and by several cousins and other relatives.
Tomoko Hitika of Brattleboro was considered a special friend.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Henderlight officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Dr. Henry Hedden
Longtime Clinton physician
Dr. Henry Hedden, 73, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at his home of cancer.
Dr. Hedden had a private medical practice in Clinton from 1948 until he retired in 1992.
He was a member of the medical review board of St. Mary's Medical Center and a member of the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club. He also belonged to Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton.
He was the son of Dr. Henry and Freda Hedden and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Dr. Hedden is survived by his wife, Theresa S. Hedden; four sons, Bryan Hedden and his wife, Missie, Richard Hedden and his wife, Missy, of Oak Ridge, Don Hedden and his wife, Susan, and Henry Hedden III, all of Clinton; a daughter, Martha Payne and her husband, Mark, of Clinton; two brothers, Bob Hedden and his wife, Norma, of Benton, Ky., and Bill Hedden and his wife, Joyce, of Magnolia, Ark.; and by several grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Nov. 20, at McCarty Woodhaven Chapel, 160 Edgemoor Road, Claxton, with the Rev. David Haynes officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at McCarty Woodhaven Chapel and proceed to Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton for an 11 a.m. graveside service.

William Brandon Sr.
Retired Union Carbide welder
William "Bill" Brandon Sr., 70, of S. Wilder Ave., Rockwood, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
Mr. Brandon was retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He had worked as a welder at both the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant and at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant
He was a member of Clymersville Baptist Church in Rockwood. He was a member and past master of Rockwood Masonic Lodge No. 403 F&AM and was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Shrine Kerbela Temple in Knoxville. Mr. Brandon was also a member of the Curtis E. Smith American Legion Post No. 50 in Rockwood.
He was the son of the Rev. Luther C. and Dollie Leffew Brandon and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Brandon is survived by his wife, Betty J. Brandon; four daughters, Teresa McNeal and her husband, Ron, Mary Crowe and her husband, Tommy, and Kim Day and her husband, Don Jr., all of Rockwood, and Karen Becknell and her husband, Tom, of Slidell, La.; and a son, Billy Brandon Jr., of Rockwood.
He is also survived by a sister, Helen Brandon of Cleveland; three brothers, Luke Brandon of Oliver Springs, Donnie Brandon of Rockwood and Bobby Brandon of Cleveland; and by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A brother, Gary Brandon, is deceased.
A Masonic service will be held at 8 tonight, Nov. 20, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. The funeral will follow, with the Rev. Charles Kelly officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Oak Grove cemetery. Members of the Roane County Volunteer Honor Guard will conduct full military rites.
