Anna B. Dew Snelson, 86, a former resident of Lake City, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, in Knox County.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney Snelson; a daughter, Jane Blum and her husband, Howard, of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Carl Dew and his wife, Eleanor, of Lake City; and a sister, Geneava Turnbill, and her husband, Bill, of Winter Haven, Fla.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City, with the Rev. Brian Courtney officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Leach cemetery in Lake City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Bessie McQueen Hatmaker
Lake City resident
Bessie Irene McQueen Hatmaker, 84, of Lake City, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Hatmaker is survived by a daughter, Kim Campbell and her husband, Mark, of Knoxville; a son, Ray Hill and his wife, Cordie, of Lake City; three sisters, Ocie Hatmaker of Clinton, Leona Webb of Indiana and Lola Beech of Briceville; and five grandchildren and their spouses.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 10, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Jeff Calloway officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Leach cemetery in Lake City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Alf Taylor Connelly
Artist, sign painter
Alf Taylor Connelly, 85, of 115 Rand Circle, died this morning, Feb. 26, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Connelly had lived in Oak Ridge since 1950. He retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division in 1977 after 27 years as a sign painter at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He was a member of the Painters Union Local No. 1805.
An artist, he enjoyed sign painting and silk screening, according to his family, who said he created cartoons along with humorous verses and epitaphs to share with his friends.
Mr. Connelly was a member of Highland View Church of Christ. He enjoyed participating in church activities, donating much of his time to church work, and was loved by all, his family said.
He was born in Tennessee's Hickman County on May 3, 1912, the son of R.G. and Lillie Jones Connelly. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
Mr. Connelly is survived by his wife, Luma Pounds Connelly; a daughter, Alva McCulley and her husband, Phil, of Oak Ridge; two sons, Donald E. Connelly of Clinton, Iowa, and Dennis D. Connelly and his wife, Janice, of Oak Ridge; a brother, James Connelly and his wife, Alta, of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Russell E. Connelly, Stephen D. Connelly and Robin R. Gaus and her husband, Michael; and two sisters-in-law, Dolly Connelly of Lenoir City and Joyce Connelly of Oak Ridge.
Five brothers, Hayes Connelly, Buford Connelly, Hobert Connelly, Paul Connelly and Taft Connelly, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Martin Pyle officiating.
A graveside service with military rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elinor Josephine Hemphill
Early resident of Oak Ridge
Elinor Josephine Hemphill, 82, a resident of Des Plaines, Ill., and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died April 21, 1998, in Des Plaines following a short illness.
Mrs. Hemphill was the widow of the late Leo F. Hemphill, one of the earliest members of the engineering team brought together for the Manhattan Project, and who died in 1988.
The Hemphills lived in Oak Ridge from 1943 until 1978 and raised their family here. Natives of Chicago, Ill., they returned there following Mr. Hemphill's retirement from the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
Survivors include five children, Holly A. Hemphill of Falls Church, Va., Pamela J. Dickson of Chattanooga, Jeffrey L. Hemphill of Brentwood, Dr. Christopher B. Hemphill of Johnson City and Debra K. Andrew, Troy, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.
William H. Holbert Sr.
Former Oak Ridge resident
William H. Holbert Sr., 72, of LaGrange, Ga., and a former resident of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Holbert, an engineer, came to Oak Ridge in 1954 to work for Union Carbide Nuclear Division. He retired in June 1986 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems Inc.
He was born March 11, 1926, in Swannanoa, N.C., the son of Anna Mae and Roy McKinley Holbert, both now deceased. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on a tanker during World War II.
Mr. Holbert was a 1946 graduate of Warren Wilson College. He attended Lee University, Cleveland, and in June 1951, he received a bachelor's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville.
Before coming to Oak Ridge, he was employed at the Savannah River Plant near Aiken, S.C., during its construction.
He was a member of Courts of Praise Christian Center in LaGrange.
Mr. Holbert is survived by three sons, Thomas M. Holbert of Evans, Ga., James M. Holbert of Eden, N.C., and William H. Holbert Jr. of Oak Ridge; three daughters-in-law, Kimberly Holbert, Cheri Holbert and Teresa Holbert; six grandchildren, Jimmy and Tiara of Eden, Amber and Adrienne of Evans and Jessica and Danny of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Ernest Holbert and Kyle Holbert; and by many nieces and nephews.
Charmaine Holbert of Oak Ridge is his former wife.
A sister, Ila Mae Holbert, and a brother, Wayne Holbert, died earlier.
Burial will be in LaGrange on Sunday, June 14. Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange is handling arrangements.

William Rodney Lewis
Oak Ridge Quincy's employee
William Rodney Lewis, 36, of Oak Ridge died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Lewis had been employed at Quincy's Family Steak House in Oak Ridge.
He was born in Greensboro, N.C., on July 17, 1961. He was a 1979 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his mother, JoAnn Dripps of Oak Ridge; three brothers, Isaac Lewis Jr. and James Lewis, both of Oak Ridge, and Robert Terence Dripps of Claxton; a niece, April Lauderdale of Oak Ridge; and a nephew, Christopher Lewis of Knoxville.
Charlie Vaughn, Tammy Hunter and Ruth and Bob Williams, all of Oak Ridge, and Luke Vinson of Oliver Springs were considered special friends.
His sister, Beverly Lauderdale, and his stepfather, Robert E. Dripps Sr., died earlier.
The body was cremated. No service will be held.

Robert Ray Ward, 60, of Knoxville and formerly of Briceville, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Ward is survived by three daughters, Mary Owens, Phyllis Ward and Janine Burgin, all of Knoxville; a son, Steve Davidson of Knoxville; two sisters, Ruby May of Decatur and Dixie Waller of Guntersville, Ala.; and a brother, Jack Ward of Knoxville.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 1, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Edwin Phillips officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Indian Bluff cemetery in Briceville.

Randolph M. White Jr.
Former mechanic
Randolph Murel White Jr., 47, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at Mountain View Health Care Center in LaFollette.
Mr. White had worked as a mechanic for Followay Spring in Baltimore, Md.
He was born in Baltimore on Oct. 20, 1949, the son of Lillian Blalock of Lake City and Randolph Murel White Sr., who is now deceased.
Mr. White was a member of the Full Gospel Church of God.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Randolph M. White III and his wife, Mary Ann, of West Virginia; two grandchildren, Tammy and Nicole; two sisters, Mae Smith and her husband, Jerry, of Lake City, and Diane Bowles and her husband, Billy, of Charleston, W.Va.; a brother, Norman White and his wife, Sandy, of Lake City; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the chapel of McCarty-Woodhaven Funeral Home in Claxton with the Rev. Justin Phillips and the Rev. Eugene Wallace officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at McCarty-Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.

Evelyn Robbins Woods

Evelyn Corrina Robbins Woods, 78, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Woods had been a resident of Clinton and affiliated with St. Mark's United Methodist Church since 1959.
She was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Powder Mill Hollow in Campbell County. She was the daughter of Herman and Cora Parrott Robbins of LaFollette and the granddaughter of Alvis and Elizabeth Ann Parker Robbins of LaFollette and of Benjamin Franklin and Eliza Butler Parrott of Bethlehem. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and schools in Riverview and LaFollette.
She was the widow of Astor Arnold Woods. After she and her husband were married
, from 1937 to 1957 they lived in Caryville, where she belonged to Caryville United Methodist Church and worked at Cove Lake State Park.
Mrs. Woods is survived by a daughter, Jocelyn Woods Griffo.
In addition to her husband, a son, Edwin "Eddie" Arnold Woods, and an infant brother, Alvis Franklin Robbins, are also deceased.
The funeral will be held at 7 tonight, Oct. 1, in the chapel of Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette. The Rev. Glenn C. Patterson of Sevierville and the Rev. John T. Clark of St. Mark's United Methodist Church will officiate.

Jimmy Frill "Jim" Gilliam, 63, of Lake City, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by his wife, Claudette Lewis Gilliam; two sons, David Gilliam and his wife, Kitty, and Scott Gilliam and his wife, Martha, all of Lake City; a sister, Kathleen Sloan and her husband, Aaron, of Charlotte, N.C., and three brothers, Thomas Gilliam and his wife, Opal, of Oak Ridge and Johnny Gilliam and his wife, Laura, and Billy Gilliam and his wife, Shelby, all of Lake City.
