Algie C. Gough, 85, of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Gough was retired from the security department at the Atomic Energy Commission, a Department of Energy predecessor agency.
He was born in Coalfield on Nov. 24, 1912, the son of Harvey Cleveland and Sadie McGlothin Gough. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Gough was a former active member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church of Lenoir City. He enjoyed gardening, his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Gough; five sisters, Ruth Salyers McCarty and Nora West and her husband, Jessie, all of Springfield, Ohio, Esther Phillips and Betty Patterson and her husband, Virgil, all of Oliver Springs, and Dortha Gough of Florida; two brothers, Richard E. Gough and his wife, Minnie, and Alvie H. Gough and his wife, Hazel, all of Oliver Springs; and a niece he considered special, Leigh-Anna Konopka of Nashville.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David Latham and the Rev. Keith Price officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, and military rites will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Joe Konopka, Jim Rather, Ken Ballenger, Carl Brewer, Ken Justice and Terry Futrell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the mortuary.
Otis Dabney Jr.
Brother of Clinton residents
Otis Dabney Jr., 65, of Amherst, Ohio, died Sunday afternoon, April 12, 1998, at his home after a short illness with cancer.
Mr. Dabney is survived by his wife, Christine Jeffers Dabney; two sons, Byron Dabney of Columbus, Ohio, and Mark Dabney of Lakewood, Ohio; seven brothers, George Ed Dabney, O.L. Dabney and Paul Dabney, all of Clinton, Ben Dabney and Jack Dabney, both of Sandusky, Ohio, Elmer Dabney of Memphis and Joseph Michael Dabney of Mountview, Ark.; and two sisters, Ann Gilliam of Reno, Nev., and Raney Faye Boyeln of Muncie, Ind.
The funeral was to be held at 11 this morning, April 15, at Faith Baptist Church in Amherst with the Rev. Robert N. Barrett officiating. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Faith Baptist Church, 440 N. Luke St., Amherst, OH 44001.

Hobert A. 'Barney' Barnett Jr.
Retired ORNL employee
Hobert A. "Barney" Barnett Jr., 64, of Lawnville Road, Kingston, died Monday morning, Nov. 3, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Barnett was retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
He had also served in the U.S. Air Force and was a master sergeant at the time of his retirement.
He was the son of Kate Blanche Webb and Hobert A. Barnett Sr., both now deceased. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Betty Barnett; a daughter, Michelle Cash and her husband, Jay, of Lenoir City; a son, Rick Barnett of Kingston; a granddaughter, Carrie Hutcheson of Knoxville; four grandsons, David Barnett, Nicholas Julian Barnett and Randy Barnett, all of Knoxville, and Gary W. Ray of California; and two great-grandchildren, Shayanna and Greyson Ray of California.
He is also survived by two sisters, Geraldine Sharp and her husband, O.L., of Rockwood, and Connie Sharp and her husband, William, of Valparaiso, Ind.; a brother, Tom Barnett and his wife, Robbie, of Harriman; and by many other relatives.
His stepfather, George Webb, and a stepson, Gary W. Ray, are deceased.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Dyllis Baptist Church. The Rev. Tim Ramey will officiate, and Jay Cash will give a special eulogy. Friends and family may call at the funeral home during the hour before the service.
Burial will follow at Dyllis cemetery, with members of the Honor Guard at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga., conducting full military rites. Pallbearers will be Terry Moore, Darryl Moore, Danny Barnett, Ray Sharp, Troy Chambers and Brent Davis.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Booth Funeral Home in Rockwood.
William Grover Jernigan Jr.
Brother of Oak Ridge resident
William Grover Jernigan Jr., 81, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1997, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. He was previously a resident of the Oak Ridge Retirement Community, having moved there from his home in Claxton two years ago.
Mr. Jernigan's brother and sister-in-law, Harold W. and Helen Jernigan, are Oak Ridge residents.
Mr. Jernigan retired from Abbott Laboratories in Chicago, Ill., in 1979 and moved to Claxton to be near family members.
He was born in Algood on Nov. 25, 1915. He was the son of William G. Jernigan Sr. and Ethel Cook Jernigan, who later moved to Oak Ridge. Both are now deceased.
Mr. Jernigan graduated from Livingston Academy and as a young man, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority on the Ocoee River Dam project and with the INS Border Patrol in Texas and New Orleans.
He had a long career in sales and marketing with Cutter Laboratories in Memphis and Atlanta, Haver-Lockhart in Kansas City, and Pfizer in New York City before joining Abbott, where he worked for 20 years.
Since moving to Anderson County, Mr. Jernigan had been active with several local organizations: Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, Clinch River Home Health, Emory Valley Center Sheltered Workshop and the Claxton Optimist Club. He also consulted with small businesses on a volunteer basis.
Mr. Jernigan enjoyed writing and was the author of a recently published book, "Two Scrambled, Heavy on the Grits," a "mostly true" story," he had said, of coming of age during the Great Depression. He also enjoyed computer networking.
He was a friend of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church.
His wife, Sara Johnston Jernigan, is deceased. Two other brothers, Kenneth Jernigan and Joseph Jernigan, also died earlier.
In addition to his brother, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Ann Jernigan of Oak Ridge; a son, William Reed Jernigan of Knoxville; two sisters, Mary Rose and her husband, Jack, of Claxton, and Charlotte Keathley and her husband, Joe, of Oak Ridge; and by several nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at McCarty Woodhaven Mausoleum in Claxton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Weatherford Mortuary.
Willie Weaver Prince

Willie Weaver Prince, 83, of Lake City, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Mrs. Prince was a member of Longfield Baptist Church in Lake City.
She was born in Jacksboro on Sept. 18, 1913, the daughter of Moss and Lucy Hatmaker Weaver, both now deceased. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors, her family said.
She was the widow of Carl Prince.
Mrs. Prince is survived by her daughter, Awennie Rife, and her daughter's husband, Stephen, of Oliver Springs; her grandson, Stephen Rife Jr. of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces, nephews and other family members.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Longfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Hazel Foit Young
Mother of Oak Ridge resident
Hazel Foit Young, 87, of Shrewsbury, Mass., died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, 1997, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Shrewsbury .
Mrs. Young was the mother of Maryann Palmer of Oak Ridge.
She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Mary Sometzer Foit. She lived in Snyder, N.Y., for 55 years before moving to Shrewsbury in 1993. She was a graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo and of Columbia Teachers College in New York City.
She was the widow of W. Wallace Young, who died in 1971.
Mrs. Young was a piano teacher for more than 50 years, including her years in Shrewsbury. She was a past president and longtime board member for the Piano Teachers Forum in Buffalo and was a past president and honorary life member of the Chromatic Club, also in Buffalo.
She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota sorority.
In addition to her local daughter, Mrs. Young is survived by another daughter, Dr. Lynda Young Sorrenti of Worcester, Mass.; a brother, Dr. Norman Foit of Kenmore, N.Y.; and five grandchildren, Christine Palmer of Chattanooga, Carolyn Palmer and David Palmer, both of Oak Ridge, and Michael Sorrenti and John Sorrenti, both of Worcester.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Immaculate Conception Church in Worcester. Burial was at Acacia Park cemetery in North Tonawanda, N.Y.
Athy Memorial Home in Worcester handled arrangements.
George Everett Creek
Retired ORNL chemist
George Everett Creek, 84, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Creek, a chemist, was a retired research associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He began his employment with Union Carbide Nuclear Division on Feb. 2, 1944, and retired on May 31, 1973.
He was born in Metropolis, Ill., on Dec. 12, 1912, the son of Thomas J. and Rhoada Jane Blankenship Creek.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Louise Krughoff Creek; a daughter, Mary Guzy and her husband, Greg, of Spartanburg, S.C.; a son, Jeff Creek and his wife, Jane, of Fullerton, Calif.; a sister, Gladys Creek of Herrin, Ill.; and two brothers, Ray Creek and T.J. Creek, both of Herrin.
Mr. Creek is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew Creek and Laurel Creek, both of Fullerton, and David Creek and Evelyn Creek, both of Spartanburg; and by several nieces and nephews.
A son, Alan Creek, died in 1983, and a sister, Eloise Vale, also died earlier.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Kenneth Henderlight officiating.
A private graveside service will be held at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Wesley Daugherty

Wesley Daugherty, 74, of Clinton, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Daugherty is survived by his wife, Viola Daugherty of Lake City; three daughters, Shirley Daugherty and Kizzie Daugherty, both of Clinton, and Margaret Phillips of Harriman; two sons, Tommy Daugherty of Clinton and Wesley Daugherty of Lake City; four stepdaughters, Kathy Sharp of Wartburg, Evelyn Isabell of Roswell, Ga., Linda Braden of Lake City and Barbara Richard of Georgia; and two stepsons, Henry Messamore of Lake City and Johnny Rhea of Clinton.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ellie Hicks of Clinton and Della Kible of Englewood; and a brother, Cleve Daugherty of Coalfield.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Elmer Thomas officiating.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Oct. 23, at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.
Ethel Bolton Rutherford

Ethel Bolton Rutherford, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Rutherford was a homemaker and enjoyed working puzzles and walking in the mall, the family said.
She was born in Rockhold, Ky., on June 1, 1908, the daughter of Hiram and Sarah Cupp Bolton. She attended First Apostolic Church in Knoxville.
Mrs. Rutherford is survived by eight children, Jean Clifton and her husband, Bud, of Jacksonville, Fla., Don Rutherford and his wife, Lea, of Brighton, Mary Wallace and her husband, Steve, and Shirley Summers and her husband, Charles, all of Oak Ridge, Doris Wooten of Denver, Colo., Betty Burke and her husband, David, of Morris, Ill., Elizabeth Russo and her husband, Joseph, of Lakeland, Fla., and Jerry Rutherford and his wife, Jackie, of Lenoir City.
She is also survived by a brother, Charlie Bolton of Corbin, Ky.; and by 36 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy McCool officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.
