Helen "Jeannie" Rieder, 64, of Clinton., died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Md. She had been visiting her daughter in Rockville.
Mrs. Rieder was retired from the Office of Scientific and Technical Information in Oak Ridge.
She was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Big Rock, Tenn., the daughter of Alvin and Maude McKinney. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton.
Mrs. Rieder is survived by her husband, J.C. Rieder; three daughters, Lucy Jones and her husband, Brian, of Lenoir City, Kathryn Rieder of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Vickie Moscoso and her husband, Roddy, of Rockville; two sisters, Ida McDraw of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Verna Scott; and two grandchildren, Conrad Jones and Locke Jones, both of Lenoir City.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Sam Dean officiating.
Burial was at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.
Virginia Cox Snasdell
Former Oak Ridge teacher
Virginia Cox Snasdell, 93, of Sevierville, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at the Sevier County Health Care Center.
During World War II, Mrs. Snasdell worked for Tennessee Eastman in Oak Ridge and later taught school here. She then became a schoolteacher at Pi Beta Phi School in Gatlinburg.
Before coming to Oak Ridge, she was a teacher in the Johnson City schools.
Mrs. Snasdell was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sevierville.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane S. Peters of Knoxville and Barbara S. Mauck of Missouri; a brother, Herbert Cox of Sevierville; and by seven grandchildren, a nephew, several nieces, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral was to be held at 11 this morning, April 20, in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville with the Rev. Jim Bailes officiating.
Burial was to follow at Shiloh cemetery in Sevierville.
Tommy Irwin
Owned dairy farm
Tommy Irwin, 53, of Andersonville, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Irwin owned and operated Irwin Dairy Farm in Andersonville.
He was born in Knox County on July 17, 1944. He was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Irwin is survived by his wife, Janie Braden Irwin; his daughter, Missy Jones and her husband, Bruce, of Nashville; his son, Michael Irwin of Andersonville; his mother, Willie S. Irwin, also of Andersonville; and by several cousins.
His father, Morrell Irwin, is deceased.
The funeral was held Saturday night, May 9, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. George Buchanan and the Rev. Ken Abbott officiating.
A graveside service was held Sunday afternoon, May 10, at Norris Memorial Park in Norris.
Gerald Allen Webber
Retired Dico employee
Gerald Allen Webber, 52, of Andersonville, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Webber was retired from Dico, a division of Titan Tire Co., in Clinton.
He was born in Andersonville on Jan. 8, 1946.
Mr. Webber was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Powell.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Meredith Webber; one son, Kevin Webber, stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; his mother, Grace Webber of Clinton; two sisters, Kathy Vanhuss of Lake City and Sandra Murray of Clinton; his mother-in-law, Alma Meredith of Andersonville; and several nieces and nephews.
His father, Howard Webber, and another son, Allen S. Webber, died earlier.
The funeral was held Sunday night, May 10, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Lester Mullins, the Rev. Perry Duncan and the Rev. Ken Abbott officiating.
A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, May 11, at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.
Jimmy Wilson
Clinton resident
Jimmy Wilson, 18, of Clinton, died Friday, May 8, 1998, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Nesha Wilson, and daughter, Desiree Wilson; his mother, Donna Sue Wilson of Clinton; his father, James Wilson of Caryville; and two sisters, Leslie Wilson of Clinton and Jamie Wilson of Caryville.
The funeral was held Sunday, May 10, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Rick Teague officiating.
Burial followed at McCarty Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.
Perry Ward
Retired coal miner
Perry Ward, 89, of Clinton, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Ward was a retired coal miner and had worked in many of the coal mines in the New River area.
He was born in Anderson County on April 11, 1909, the son of Eli and Maggie Bunch Ward, both now deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ward was a member of Free Communion Baptist Church of New River.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Borum and her husband, Roy, of Oliver Springs; two sons, Alvin Ward and his wife, Patsy, of Clinton, and Rayburn Bunch and his wife, Oma Gail, of New River; three grandchildren, Jamie Allen Ward of Clinton, Danny E. Byrge of Oliver Springs and Carlton Greg Bunch of Lake City; and by three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ward is also survived by a brother, the Rev. Dana Ward and his wife, Jane, of Oak Ridge; a half-sister, Vera Zane of Peru, Ind.; and a half-brother, J.C. Daugherty of Oliver Springs.
His wife, Dessie B. Ward, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Luke Ward and the Rev. Dana Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight, May 21, at the funeral home.
Charles Frank Ethridge
Retired Air Force sergeant
Charles F. "Frank" Ethridge, 64, of Houston, Texas, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at East Houston Medical Center.
Mr. Ethridge retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a commendation for meritorious service.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1933, the son of Charles C. and Jackie Gilham Ethridge of Oak Ridge. His hobbies included nature and photography. He was a member of the New York Photography Society and had won a national award for his photo of a fireworks display.
While in Oak Ridge, Mr. Ethridge attended the Oak Ridge Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Ethridge; and seven daughters, Pamela Nobles and her husband, George, of Houston, Terri Schreiner and her husband, Donny, of Valparaiso, Ind., Vickie Stuckert of California, Doe Onna Bellows and her husband, Kirk, of Temple, Texas, Tabitha Roberts of Lively, Texas, Marsha Medley of Knoxville and Denise Fritts of Rockwood.
Mr. Ethridge is also survived by a sister, Brenda Demps of Oliver Springs; three brothers, Jack Ethridge and his wife, Joanne, of the Batley community, James D. Ethridge and his wife, Eva, of Statesboro, Ohio, and Richard Ethridge and his wife, Sharon, of Oak Ridge; and grandchildren, Michael, Curtis, Cameron, Rachel, John, Lydia, Audrey, Justin, Monty, Blake, Dylan, Christopher, Darren, Dustin and Lynsey.
A son, Charles Lynn Ethridge, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ed Denham officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. Family and friends should meet at the cemetery, where a military service will be conducted.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Gilbert William Norman

Gilbert William Norman, 65, of Harriman, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Norman was a self-employed contractor.
He was born in Knox County on Sept. 2, 1932, the son of Rufus and Chastine Norman.
Mr. Norman was a member of Oliver Springs Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Harris Norman; five daughters, Kay Yarbro and her husband, David, of Thomaston, Ga., Connie Wright and her husband, Bobby, and Sandra Norman, all of Oliver Springs, and Tina McCawley and her husband, Harold, and Emma Bates and her husband, Boggan, all of Dayton, Tenn.; and three sons, Mike Norman and his wife, Joanie, of Lenoir City, Gary Norman and his wife, Stacy, of Chattanooga, and Larry Norman and his wife, Neda, of Kingston.
Mr. Norman is also survived by a sister, Delsie Stansberry and her husband, Kenny, of Seymour; two brothers, Chris Norman and his wife, Emma, of Claxton, and Glen Norman of Harriman; and by 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 8:30 tonight, June 9, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Roy Massengale officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Ray Taylor
Retired master mechanic
Ray Taylor, 71, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge from complications of lung cancer.
Mr. Taylor worked for 21 years as a master mechanic in Flint, Mich., before moving to Oak Ridge in 1972 to be near his family.
He was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Somerset, Pulaski County, Ky., and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. While aboard ship, his family said, his duties were in the ship's laundry section where doing things right the first time became standard issue.
His tour of duty took him to Okinawa, Japan, during World War II, and his duties changed to combat status. During an engagement with the Japanese army, he was injured and three of his shipmates were killed on the Japanese shoreline by a subsequent mortar attack.
For his efforts, he received the distinguished Purple Heart, reserved only for those injured or killed in the line of duty. He attained the rank of ship's serviceman L 3rd Class and was honorably discharged in 1945. He moved to Flint after his discharge.
In 1975, he worked for Union Carbide Nuclear Division and received a medical discharge in 1979.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his sister and her husband, Flossie and Jim Denton of Oak Ridge; two sons, Frederick "Fred" Taylor and his wife, Janice, their grandsons, Ian and Zachary, and their granddaughter, Sophia, all of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and Johnathan Taylor and his granddaughter, Jalyn Kelsey, both of Oak Ridge; an adopted daughter, Liseth Blanco Rivera of Guatemala, Mexico; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ron Howard of Oliver Springs officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Thomas "Mack" Jackson, 82, of Lake City, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Ina Lou Lindsay Jackson; two sons, Paul Jackson and his wife, Wilma, of Jacksboro, and Joe Mack Jackson and his wife, Evelyn, of Knoxville; and four grandchildren.
