Alan W. Williams, 40, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Oak Ridge, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.

Mr. Williams is survived by his mother and stepfather, Rebecca and Kenneth Hughes of Dalton, and a brother, Dana Williams of Oak Ridge.

The funeral will be held at 7:30 tonight, July 21, in the chapel of Love Funeral Home, 1402 Chattanooga Road, Dalton, with minister Barry Gilreath officiating. Burial will be in Ozone, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Highland Church of Christ, 901 Chester St., Dalton, GA 30721.

Margery Keelor Toucey
Longtime Oak Ridge resident

Margery Keelor Toucey, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Farragut Health Care Center.

Mrs. Toucey and her husband, the late Robert Edward Toucey, came to Oak Ridge in the early 1940s.

She was a homemaker most of her life, but in earlier years had managed the credit union at ORTEC, her daughter said.

She was born in Ohio, the daughter of Miron and Beatrice Keelor, both now deceased.

Mrs. Toucey enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing golf and bridge. She was known for her sense of humor and her sense of fun, her daughter said.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Wilson of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Scott Wilson of Campbell, Calif., and Brian Wilson of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, Richard M. Keelor of Xenia, Ohio; three nieces, Pam Airtene of Port Huron, Mich., Jane Howard of Naperville, Ill., and Linda Fischer of El Paso, Texas; and two nephews, Rick Toucey of Duluth, Ga., and Donald Toucey of Indiana, Pa.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, in the chapel of McCarty-Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 N.W. Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mildred Louise Williams
Guiding Star Baptist member

Mildred Louise Williams, 67, of Lake City, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Windwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.

Mrs. Williams was a member of Guiding Star Baptist Church in Lake City.

She was born in Anderson County on July 16, 1931, the daughter of Luke Elliott and Parley Buena Williams, who are now deceased.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Carl Fred Williams; a son, Carl Williams and his wife, Arline, of Andersonville; a sister, Mable Ruth New and her husband, Patrick, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Authur Elliott and his wife, Emmia Jean, of Lake City; three grandchildren, Jason Williams of Andersonville, Ricky Williams and his wife, Kimberly, of Lake City, and Bryson Williams and his wife, Cara, of Clinton; a great-grandson, Jonathan Andrew Williams of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 21, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City. The Rev. Clifford Fraker, assisted by the Rev. Verlin Langford, will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Red Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Andersonville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Annie M. Harness
Mother of area residents

Annie M. Harness, 89, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Harness was born June 4, 1909, in Briceville, the daughter of Robert and Mary Harness Roberts. She was a former resident of South Carolina for 46 years and had lived in Oliver Springs for the past three years.

Mrs. Harness was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church of Givhans, S.C. She was a homemaker and the mother of 17 children.

She was the widow of Clarence M. Harness.

She is survived by two daughters, Lois Bass and her husband, the Rev. Bill Bass, and Audrey Seeber and her husband, Ralph Seeber, all of Oliver Springs; a son, Dee Harness and his wife, Mildred, of Givhans; two brothers, D.K. Roberts and the Rev. F.A. Roberts, both of Summerville, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Jerry Harness and his wife, Juanita, of Lake City; a sister-in-law, Nellie Harness of Oliver Springs; 34 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She has 91 direct descendants, the family said.

Adele Harness of Lake City and Ruby White of Oliver Springs were considered special friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Laurel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Marlow, the Rev. Altman Harness, the Rev. Mark Bass and the Rev. Bill Bass officiating.

Burial will follow at Laurel Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 27, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.

James Louis Lane
Retired research engineer

James Louis "J.L." Lane, 57, of Clinton, died Thursday afternoon, July 23, 1998, at his home of lung cancer.

Mr. Lane was retired from Gates Rubber Co., in Denver, Colo. He began with the company in 1965 and retired as a research engineer from the company's polymer science group, Gates R & D.

He was born in Anderson County and was a 1949 graduate of Clinton High School. He was the son of Basil and Ollie Glendon Lane, now deceased.

After graduating from Clinton High, Mr. Lane attended school in Pennsylvania for two years. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years.

He began as a manager-trainee for the W.T. Grant Co., in 1955, and when he left in 1965, he had served as manager of and helped open stores in Washington, California, Oregon and Arizona.

Mr. Lane was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Marlow but had been attending church at Second Baptist in Clinton since returning to the area. He was a Scottish Rite Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Fay Brown Lane; four sons, Jim Lane and his wife, Jane, and Steve Lane and his wife, Terri Jo, all of Denver, Brad Lane and his wife, Karen, of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Greg Lane and his wife, Lori, of Vonore; two stepdaughters, Angela Duncan Fox of Oak Ridge and Kim Hollin and her husband, Tony, of Knoxville; and a stepson, Greg Duncan and his wife, Markettia, of Chattanooga.

Mr. Lane is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa, Ian and Zandria Lane, all of Denver, Elisabeth Lane of North Las Vegas, and Tony Lane of Vonore; step-grandchildren, Sherri Fox and Beau Hollin, both of Knoxville, and Justin Fox of Oak Ridge; a sister, Toni Jenkins and her husband, Jimmy, of Maryville; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Jean Crawford of Clinton; a brother-in-law, Alvin Brown and his wife, Pat, of Chattanooga; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

His first wife, Joyce McKinley Lane, died earlier. His maternal grandparents, Carter and Emily Glandon, and his paternal grandparents, R.L. and Maggie Lane, also died earlier.

The funeral will be at 8:30 tonight, July 27, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Gary Swaggerty and Milford Ely officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 901 Fowler St., Clinton, TN 37716.

Clark Mayes Lay
Retired Y-12 Plant employee

Clark Mayes Lay, 73, of Claxton, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mr. Lay was retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems as an electrical engineer at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.

He was born in Claiborne County on Jan. 10, 1925. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lay was a member of Disciples of Christ and a member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge No. 13 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell Kendrick Lay; his mother, Emma Myers Lay of Speedwell; two daughters, Judith Lay of Oak Ridge and Margaret Burk and her husband, Robert, of Zanesville, Ohio; a stepson, James Lay of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Ruth Lay of Monteagle, Ava June Lay of Speedwell and Merle Carlson and her husband, A.L., of Palm City, Fla.; a brother, James Lay of Speedwell; two step-grandchildren, Joel Lay and his wife, Sara, and Stacey Lay, all of Maryville; and by three nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Lay's father, Edgar Lay, a brother, Dean Lay, and his first wife, Mary Greene Lay, all died earlier.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Fritts and the Rev. Terry Moore officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

Bobbie W. Sexton
Retired schools' cook

Bobbie W. Sexton, 67, of Coalfield, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Sexton had worked as a cook for the Morgan County school system for 22 years.

She was born in Coalfield on Sept. 24, 1930, the daughter of Joseph W. and Beatrice Ashley Wood, both now deceased.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Coalfield.

Mrs. Sexton is survived by her husband, Ralph, of Coalfield; two daughters, Patricia Sexton of Harriman and Teresa Baer and her husband, Rick, of Solway; a son, Michael Sexton of Coalfield; two sisters, Marjorie Chadwick and her husband, Mitchell, and JoAnn Wormsley and her husband, Willis, all of Coalfield; and three grandchildren, Samantha Sexton, Jessie Baer and Katie Baer.

Two brothers, Donald Wood and Tommy Wood, died earlier.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Davis cemetery in Coalfield with the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating.

The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Coalfield, TN 37719.

Frances Tate
Clinton resident

Frances Tate, 89, of Clinton, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Windwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.

Mrs. Tate was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Covington, Va., the daughter of George and Rose Byrd, both now deceased. She was a homemaker.

She was the widow of Harry Joseph Tate.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jo Aloi of San Antonio, Texas, and Phyliss Elaine Scoby of Sun City, Ariz.; a son, Harry Eugene Tate of Sun City; and by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, a daughter, Carolyn Lee Martin, and a sister, Ethel Mae Johnson, also died earlier.

A graveside service was held Sunday, July 26, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.

Evelyn Mardine Venable
Mother of area residents

Evelyn Mardine Venable, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Venable was a homemaker. Her grandchildren were her hobby, the family said.

She was born in Tryon, Ga., on Aug. 25, 1924, the daughter of Friel and Mattie Barlow Harris. She was a Baptist.

She was the widow of Walter Troy Venable, who died in June 1988.

Mrs. Venable is survived by three daughters, Martha Elaine Schultz and Linda Louise Wilson, both of Oak Ridge, and Evelyn Marie Williams of Dallas, Texas; two sons, William Bryan Venable and his wife, Anita, of Greenville, S.C., and Jack Andrew Venable of Lake City; two sisters, Katherine Cornett of Lancaster, S.C., and Doris Boikin and her husband, John, of Rome, Ga.; and a brother, Edward Fain Harris and his wife, Louise, of Pensacola, Fla.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tim Moneymaker of Lubbock, Texas, Patrick Moneymaker of Dallas, Dean Schultz of Kingston, and Tina Stevens, Troy Venable and David Venable, all of Oak Ridge; and two great-grandchildren, Hilary Moneymaker of Lubbock and Jason Moneymaker of Dallas.

The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 27, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.
