Susie Phillips Bunch, 79, of Lake City, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bunch is survived by two daughters, Juanita Foust of Clinton and Frances Weaver and her husband, Bob, of Knoxville; three sons, Hubert Bunch of Knoxville, Frank Bunch of Powell and Archie Bunch and his wife, Alice Faye, of Clinton; four sisters, Annie Bunch of Lake City, Rosie Lively of Briceville, Pauline Phillips of Clinton and Lizzie Patterson of Harriman; a brother, Charlie Phillips and his wife, Frances, of Lake City; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, April 17, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Edwin Phillips officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Phillips cemetery in Devonia.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Ruth Virginia Carter Mitchell, 79, of Oak Ridge, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Mitchell was retired as a cashier at the former A & P Tea Co.
She was born in Summerville, Ga., on June 5, 1918, the daughter of Ollie and Sam Carter. She attended Woodland Park Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, William Tracy Mitchell; three sons, Fred R. Mitchell and his wife, Libby, of Cumming, Ga., Billy T. Mitchell and his wife, Terry, of Acworth, Ga., and Bobby G. Mitchell of Chattanooga.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, David Mitchell and his wife, Carol, of Hartwell, Ga., Dena Barber and her husband, Mark, of Stone Mountain, Ga., Denise Haynes and her husband, Mike, and Preston Mitchell and his wife, Dena, all of Atlanta, Ga., Brad Mitchell and his wife, Nattlie, of Acworth, Chan Mitchell of Blue Ridge, Ga., Michael Mitchell and his wife, Vicki, of Loganville, Ga., Mindy O'Conner and her husband, Kelly, of Denver, Colo., Angela Mitchell of Nashville, and Christopher Richardson of Charlotte, N.C.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Terry Mosley officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Mildred I. Moyers

Mildred I. Moyers, 86, of Oak Ridge, died at 1:49 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Moyers was a homemaker in recent years but had owned a beauty shop in Spring City.
She was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 29, 1911, the daughter of James and Ada Mooney Heird. She was an Episcopalian.
She was the widow of Russell Frank Moyers, who died Dec. 2, 1973.
Mrs. Moyers is survived by two daughters, Betty Watson of Plant City, Fla., and Patricia Jean Morphew and her husband, Allen, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a niece she raised, Charlotte H. Coward and her husband, Oscar, of Corryton; and two sisters, Grace Morgan of Orlando, Fla., and Mary Sitton of Knoxville.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Gary Hall of Miami, Fla., Karen Christeen of Boise, Idaho, and Randall Allen Morphew of Idaho Falls; two great-grandchildren; grandnieces and grandnephews whom she considered her grandchildren, James S. Anthony of Oak Ridge and Tonya T. Anthony, Oscar S. Coward, Stacy M. Swann and Celena F. Brown, all of Corryton; and by seven great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. No other service will be held.

Helen Jeannie Rieder

Helen "Jeannie" Rieder, 64, of Clinton., died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Md. She had been visiting her daughter in Rockville.
Mrs. Rieder was retired from the Office of Scientific and Technical Information in Oak Ridge.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton.
Mrs. Rieder is survived by her husband, J.C. Rieder; and three daughters, Lucy Jones of Lenoir City, Kathryn Rieder of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Vickie Moscoso of Rockville.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at First Baptist Church in Clinton.
Burial will be at Sunset cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Christine Johnson Cale

Christine Johnson Cale, 74, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Cale had worked in the Oak Ridge Preschool for many years.
She was the daughter of Lonnie and Savannah Johnson, now deceased. Mrs. Cale was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
She loved sewing, cooking and singing and spending time with her grandchildren, the family said.
Mrs. Cale is survived by her husband, Willie T. Cale; two children, Stanley A. Cale and Gina S. Cale, both of Oak Ridge; one stepdaughter, Betty J. Cale; three grandchildren, Eric T. Cale, Ginaé N. Cale and Xavier T. Cale; a sister, Alice Jean Johnson and her husband, Sam, of Chicago, Ill.; and one brother, Perry Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio.
She is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Mary Williams of Kentucky, Josephine Thomas and her husband, Buddy, Betty Cale and her husband, Robert, and Gladys Cale, all of Knoxville, and Betty Johnson of Alcoa; a brother-in-law, James Cale and his wife, Myrtle, of Oak Ridge; and an aunt, Amelia Johnson.
Naja Brown was Mrs. Cale's godchild, and Mother Ivy was considered a special and devoted friend.
In addition to her parents, a daughter, twin sons, two sisters, and a brother died earlier.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 195 Wilberforce Ave., with the Rev. Tommie Mims officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
The body may be viewed after noon on Saturday, July 4, at Foothills Funeral Home, 910 E. Lincoln Road, Maryville.
Oliver L. Keene

Oliver L. Keene, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Keene began his employment in Oak Ridge in 1944 as a dispatcher with Union Carbide Nuclear Division at the Y-12 Plant. He retired in 1971.
He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Feb. 17, 1907, the son of Carrie Hinton and John Findlay Keene.
Mr. Keene was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Penny Keene; a sister-in-law, Frances Keene of Tuscaloosa; a niece, Meredith Holt and her husband, Tom, of St. Paul, Minn.; four nephews, John Robert Keene and his wife, Pat, of Tuscaloosa, Denzel Hollis and his wife, Brenda, and Jack Hollis, all of Foley, Ala., and Hubert Y. Rollen and his wife, Ann, of Clinton; and by several grandnieces, grandnephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 5, at United Church, Chapel on the Hill with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating. (The time was not confirmed at press time.)
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service.

Lena F. Bunch

Lena F. Bunch of Oliver Springs died Friday, July 3, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bunch had worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a draftsman and later received a CAD operator's certificate. She also worked as an associate in the nuclear design and engineering field for the several years at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and the Brown's Ferry Plant. Mrs. Brown received an award in appreciation of her 17 years of service at TVA, along with an accommodation plaque for her outstanding work in department administration.
She was a 1962 graduate of Oliver Springs High School and had an associate's degree from Roane State Community College. She was the daughter of Elmer and Etta Lively of 211 Hermitage Drive, Oliver Springs.
Mrs. Bunch was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edward Ray Bunch.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Bales, and her husband, William, of Oliver Springs; two grandchildren, Amanda Bales and Michael Bales, both of Oliver Springs; two sisters, Sena McPeters and her husband, Wendell, of Oliver Springs, and Sheila Collins and her husband, Tim, of Kingsport; three nieces, April McPeters, Melissa Lively and Katie Lynn Collins; and four nephews, Tommy Lively, Chris Lively, Jason Lively and Steve McPeters.
Mattie Tippett of Knoxville was considered a special friend.
In addition to her husband, a brother, Vic Allen Lively, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 8 tonight, July 6, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Benny Braden and the Rev. Danny West officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Oliver Springs cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Lois Alford McCracken

Lois Alford McCracken of Oak Ridge died Sunday morning, July 5, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center. She was 71.
Born June 1, 1927, in Johnson County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Ivan Connie Alford and Rosa Lee Royall Alford.
Mrs. McCracken was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, serving as circle chairman, president of the women's organization, a Sunday school teacher, and member and chairman of the Kitchen Guild. She was an active volunteer worker for Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for many years, serving as president of the volunteers in 1979.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Howard L. "Mac" McCracken of Oak Ridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and James Drummond of Knoxville and Debbie and Dan Starnes of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Debbie McCracken of St. Peters, Mo.; grandchildren Brian and Brad Pritchard of Knoxville, Brook and Sarah McCracken of St. Peters, and Erin, Joey, Patrick and Ryan Starnes of Nashville.
Also surviving are her sisters, Connie Taylor of Stovall, N.C., Shirley Alford of Marissa, Ill., and Helen Hendrick of Oxford, N.C.
The funeral will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7. The family will receive friends in the parish hall following the service.
Burial will be Wednesday morning at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Altar Guild or St. Francis Guild.

J. Reba Smellage
Retired special services librarian

Johnnie Reba Smellage, 72, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was the daughter of John and Ota Anderson Smellage of Putnam County.
Miss Smellage was a graduate of Baxter Seminary High School and Tennessee Technological University and held a master's degree in library science from Peabody/Vanderbilt University. She received many academic awards and honors in school but, according to her family, she was most proud of the "Outstanding Graduate Award" she received at Peabody/Vanderbilt.
She taught English at Baxter Seminary and served as librarian in Pekin, Ill., before going to Germany as a U.S. Army Special Services librarian. Miss Smellage worked in Germany for 20 years, and her home reflected her extensive travels throughout Europe and the Far East, as did the homes of her four sisters, her sisters said.
She was an avid and fast reader and retained almost all that she read, family members said, adding that she could converse intelligently on almost any topic one cared to mention. She was a frequent book reviewer for the Oak Ridge Woman's Club.
She was very close to her Philathea Sunday School Class, members of First Baptist Church, who provided transportation to a dialysis clinic for six years. She also had many special friends.
She is survived by four sisters: Frances Neal and husband Bob of Oak Ridge, Polly Holmes and husband Ken of Memphis; Bettie Koerber and husband Joe of Attica, Mich.; Wanda Stewart and husband Albert of Fortville, Ind. A brother died earlier. She is survived by seven nephews and four nieces whom she adored, her sisters said. Her seven great-nieces and great-nephews loved her story-telling ability.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating. A short service and burial will be held at 3 p.m. at the Smellage cemetery in Putnam County.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, July 6, at Weatherford Mortuary.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the library of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, where she was church librarian for many years.
