HONEYCUTT, W.E. (WILLIE) - age 81, of Ridgewood, Tennessee, departed this life at 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the home of his daughter, Brenda Moore, in Maryville, Tennessee. Willie was an active member and Deacon of Lake View Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in The Pacific Theater of Operations. He also served in The Civilian Conservation Core and had served as President of the PTA at Ridgewood Elementary School. He was retired from Union Carbide of Oak Ridge. Willie was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Preceded in death by his wife, Castene Byrd Honeycutt; daughter, Louise Russell and parents, Leonard and Arbana Bauswell Honeycutt. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ramsey Leonard (R.L.) Honeycutt and wife, Beth, of Columbus, Mississippi, Curtis Honeycutt and wife, Carolyn, of Stansbury Park, Utah and Jim Honeycutt and Wife, Dixie, of Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita Deaver and husband, Steve, of Waynesville, NC, Phyllis Simpson and husband, Butch, of Knoxville, Brenda Moore and husband, Tom, of Maryville and Yvonne Smith and husband, Tom, of Oak Ridge; 12 grandchildren, Pam Wallace, Robert Wallace, Sherry Washington, Tim Hutson and Brian Hutson, all of Clinton, Travis and Brad Honeycutt of Jacksboro, Kim Slater of Maryville, Angela Janke of Canton, GA, Will Honeycutt and Jim Honeycutt of Lynchburg, VA and Cassandra Honeycutt of Washington, D.C.; 5 great-grandchildren, Shawntina and Alex Washington, Ariana Wallace and Zachary Hutson, all of Clinton, and Heather Honeycutt of Lynchburg, VA; one sister, whom he loved dearly, Dora Allred of Ypsilanti, Michigan and special best friend, Evon Crabtree of Caryville, TN; one niece, Carolyn Cheek of North Carolina and one nephew, Clifford Allred of Ypsilanti, Michigan and many friends too numerous to mention. KEATON, MARY LOUISE (THOMAS) - age 89, of Fountain City, passed away Wednesday evening, June 27, 2001, at Hillcrest North Healthcare. She was the widow of Lieut. Clyde H. Keaton, Tenn. Highway Patrol Ret. A member of Fountain City United Methodist Church, Fontanalis, and the Retired Teachers Assoc. Graduate of Maryville College and taught for 40 years, teaching in McCreary Co., Ky., Knox County, and Knoxville City Schools before retirement. Survived by daughter, Mariel Clark of Miami, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Shirley Keaton of Corryton; granddaughters, Robin Fox of Miami, Fla., Michelle Leach of Corryton, Angie Buchanan of Seymour; grandsons, Brian Keaton of Corryton, Brad Keaton of Knoxville; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Ruth O'Bryan of St. George, Utah, Francis Dobbs of Franklin, Ky.; brother, Dr. Frank C. KESTERSON, DAVID W. - age 84, of Powell, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Shannondale Nursing Home. Member of Glenwood Baptist Church and retired from Southern Railway. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge, and Scottish Rite. Veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by wife, Willie Thornton Whittle Kesterson and son, Charles Leroy Kesterson. KITTRELL, MR. CHARLES M. - of Oakdale, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at his home. He was an active member of the Piney Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for 7 years. He served on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity for Morgan and Scott Counties, and was a member of the Gideon Foundation. He was a Veteran of World War II and was widely known and appreciated for his civic and community service. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Martin Kittrell; parents, Fred and Halcie Kittrell, and brother, Louis Kittrell. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen Kittrell of Oakdale; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Michael Ogilvie of Sarasota, Florida; three grandsons, Chris and wife Tami of Knoxville, Jason and wife Robin of Oakdale, and Josh, of Oakdale; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sydney, Madeline and Darren; two brothers, Merle Kittrell of Dallas, Texas, and Maurice Kittrell of Kingston, and several nieces and nephews. LAUGHERTY, CHUCKEY LEE - age 44, of Kingsport, originally of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Holston Valley Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Laugherty; son, Kevin Laugherty, and brother, Rex Laugherty. MILLER, MRS. LEILA LEACH - age 86, of 310 Paty Place, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday evening, June 27, 2001, in the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bishop Kenneth Carder of Jackson, Mississippi; two granddaughters, Mrs. John (Sheri) Hood of Knoxville, and Mrs. Kyle (Sandra) Nash of Columbia, South Carolina, and three great-granddaughters. She was a former church secretary of First Baptist Church of Powell and Inskip Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Horace A. Powell. PUCKETT, JOHN T. - age 79, of Oneida, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville. Born in Scott County, Tennessee, September 25, 1921, he was the son of the late Warren and Victoria Smith Puckett. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneida, where he was baptized by his youngest brother, Rev. Dale Smith. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5669 of Oneida, and a volunteer for the Retired Railroad Museum in Oneida. John was the oldest son growing up during the depression and joined the 3 C's in 1938, where he worked as a blacksmith during development of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. From 1942 until 1945, he served his country with pride in the 1st Army, (Big Red One) Landing of Normandy's Omaha Beach, and was promoted to 3rd level staff Sergeant. In 1986, he retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he was a member of the National Aerospace and Machinist Union. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Dorothy Ellis. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Ellis Puckett; one son, Monty Puckett and wife Heather of Bristol, Virginia; one daughter, Judy Puckett Brown and husband Dennis of Knoxville; one granddaughter, Andrea Foster and husband Jim of Nashville; one great-granddaughter, Jaden Alexa Foster; one brother, Rev. Dale Smith and wife Flonnie of Oneida, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Kidd of Wartburg and Mrs. Helen Bradley and husband Junior of Oneida. He also leaves nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 25, at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Smith and Rev. Philip Kazee officiating. Music was provided by Allen Matthews and Gina Phillips. RAINS, MRS. NERVA - age 88, a 61 year resident of Morgan County, passed away suddenly Wednesday, June 27, 2001. She was born near Popular Creek, Kentucky, the daughter of Nancy Ann and Jarvis Carpenter of Silar, Kentucky, and came to Morgan County as a young wife in 1933. She was the wife of the late Lee Rains, a coal miner and the mother of Lawrence Rains, also deceased. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She is survived by son, Kenneth R. Rains of Wartburg; daughters, Phyllis Rains Akin of Chattanooga, and Patsy Rains Ferrell of Cookeville.
