PARDUE, GLENN JOSEPH, SR. - age 73, a life long resident of Sweetwater, passed away 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 5, 1928. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sweetwater, for 60 years, where he was a former Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Sweetwater Lodge #292, Free and Accepted Masons, also a 32nd Degree mason and member of the Knoxville Scottish Rite. A 51 year member of the IBEW Local #270. Mr. Pardue was a Veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Pardue and his wife were the former owners and operators of the Barnett Cleaners in Sweetwater for 32 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nettie Browder Pardue. Survivors include wife of 53 years, Joyce Barnett Pardue; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Pardue; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Mike Littleton, all of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Mikie and Nikki Littleton of Sweetwater, Missy and Rockey Brown of Sweetwater, April and Evan Plaugher of Vonore, and Heather Pardue of Sweetwater; great-grandchildren, Chance and Abigayle Plaugher of Vonore, and Austin Brown of Sweetwater; aunt, Virginia Stout of Sweetwater; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Oran Barnett of Lenoir City; brother-in-law, Charles Cason of Newport. Special friends, Kenneth and Josephine Denton of Sweetwater. PAYNE, MRS. BERNEICE FRANCES RUTHERFORD - of Knoxville, departed this life Monday, June 11, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospice Facility, after a bout with a lingering illness. Preceded in death by husband, Clifton Payne, Sr.; daughter, Sandra Payne; parents, Elmer and Mae Rutherford, and sister, Willie V. Rutherford. REED, GLADYS IRENE LAMB - age 80, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was the 3rd of 12 children born to Lee and Martha Lamb on Lamb Mountain in Campbell County, Tenn. She was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church, Euzelian Sunday School Class and the Golden Notes Choir. Former volunteer at Fort Sanders Hospital and the American Heart Association. Preceded in death by beloved husband, Roscoe Reed. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Glenn Pettit of Knoxville, Brenda and Mario Martinez of Brush Prairie, Washington; grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Amy Pettit, and Amy and Scott Hamilton; granddaughters, Monique and Michele Martinez; great-grandchildren, Evan and Garret Hamilton and Nathan Pettit. THORPE, CHARLES "JACK" - age 94, passed away Monday, June 11, 2001. A resident of Knoxville, Tenn., for the past 11 years. He had lived in Plymouth, Michigan for over 50 years, and was born April 21, 1907, in West Tennessee, near Reelfoot Lake. He is survived by his second wife, Zella; a daughter, Sally; a son, Jim; daughter-in-law, Susie; grandsons, Michael and Nathan, also great-granddaughter, Amy. TOPPINS, JOHN P. - age 81, of Seymour, died Wednesday morning, June 13, 2001. He was a member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church, and had retired from Allied Chemical Corp. in 1981. Mr. Toppins was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Mae Pack Toppins; three brothers, Walter, Harold, and Millard Toppins, and sister, Virgie Collier. His survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Frances and David Pyle of Strawberry Plains; daughter, Loretta Toppins of Knoxville; son, John P. WEBB, KATIE EVELYN HARVEY - born December 8, 1914, in Loudon County, Tennessee, to Bessie Hassletine Moore and Joseph Harrison Harvey. She was a graduate of Roane County High School. She received her BA at Carson Newman College on May 8, 1942. She was a teacher in Roane and Loudon County Schools. She married
Jacob H. Clay Webb on August 15, 1942. She died on June 10, 2001. Member of Meridian Baptist Church, WMU, Bethany Sunday School Class, LLL, and New Hopewell Home Demonstration Club. Predeceased by parents, husband, infant son, and siblings, Mamie, Thelma, Ruth and Ray.
