MAY, LONNIE C., JR., M.D. - age 80 of West Knoxville, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Shannondale Nursing Home. He was a Methodist, a retired General Practitioner and a decorated Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was a devoted father, husband and caregiver. Survivors: daughter, Mary Beth Daniel, Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; son, Lonnie Coker May III, Mims, Fla.; sister, Billie C. Stege, Alpharetta, Ga.; former wives, Dottye May Marston, Mims, Fla., Sandi Thompson, Knoxville. MURPHY, HATTIE MAE - age 95 of Oak Ridge died Friday, April 27, 2001 at the Methodist Medical Center. She was born May 4, 1905 in Scott County, Tenn., the daughter of Marion Francis Ross and Mary Orick Ross. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Outreach Center Assembly of God. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and especially her family. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson Murphy, January 3, 1984 and also by 4 brothers, Virgil, Charlie, James and Willard and by 5 sisters, Bertha, Flora, Eva, Ivy and Willie. She is survived by sons, Chester Murphy and wife, Christine of Lebanon, Tenn. Bill Murphy and wife, Donna of Lima, Ohio and Jack Murphy and wife, Teresa of Houston, TX; daughters, Evelyn Babb of Oak Ridge, Jean Pope of Karns and Julie Strickland and husband, Art of Ackworth, Ga.; brother, Louie Ross and wife, Beatrice of Oneida; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be Monday, April 30, 2001 at 12 noon at Weatherford Mortuary with Pastor Archer Corder officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. NORMAN, REBECCA REAGAN - age 69, of the West Haven Community died Wednesday April 25, 2001. She was a member of West Lonsdale Baptist Church, worked at several recreation centers for the city of Knoxville, and had been acitve in various garden clubs. In 1953, Mrs. Norman was named Miss Southern Belle of Knoxville by the telephone company. She was preceded in death by husband, Rex Norman; and daughter, Kim Norman. Survivors: son and daughter in law, Tony and Jani Norman; grandsons, Danny and Derek Norman; brothers, Frank and Fletcher Reagan; sister, Melita Lance; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ola Grigsby and Emma Lou Coffin. MOORE, DR. JOHN W., JR. - of the Coalfield Community passed away Thursday April 26th 2001. John was a faithful member of the Coalfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he served as a Deacon. In the past he was a Pathfinder Club Director, Chairman of the Church school board and taught the Children's Sabbath school lesson at different times. John worked at Roane Medical Center, Harriman, Tenn. in the anesthesia department for 32 years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Jane (Wiggins) Moore; sons and daughters in law, Dr. Chris and Joy Moore of Collegedale, Tenn., Andy (part owner of Moore's Sales) and wife, Nina Moore of Coalfield; two precious grandchildren, Johnathan Andrew and Micah Chableah who loved him dearly and Nick named him, Ha-Ha; parents, John William, Sr. and Ruby Moore of Montgomery, Ala. loving sister, Jane Haney and husband, Gary; brothers, Donald Moore and wife, Diane, and Ronald Moore, all of the Montgomery, Ala. area and his family called him Buddy; mother in law, Evaleen Wiggins Coalfield; sister in law, Carol Gigante and husband, Joe of Beltsville, MD; brothers in law, Danny Wiggins and wife, Alice of Elm City, NC, Randy Wiggins and wife, Patricia of Whitesburg, Tenn., Ronnie Adams of Blaine, Tenn.; special 6 year old friend, Ashley Phillips; several nieces and nephews. OWNBY, MRS. CELIA HUBBARD - age 92, of Knoxville, went to be with our heavenly father, Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center, after a courageous fight with heart disease. She was born in Strawberry Plains, Tenn. She was a member of Power House Baptist Church, and long time family member of Bever Creek Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Carson Ownby of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; daughter, Betty Lou Frazier of Maryville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Lori Owenby and grandson, Eddie Owenby. She is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Emma Owenby of Texarkana, Arkansas, Harold and Cathie Owenby of Knoxville, John and Mary Owenby of Texarkana, Texas, Ronald and Doris Owenby of Knoxville; daughter, Sharon O. Handly of Knoxville, devoted caregiver, granddaughter, Kathy Nipper of Knoxville. She has 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. PEARSON, HELEN RUTH FRYE - age 63 of Concord passed away Thursday evening April 26, 2001 at the Parkwest Medical Center. She recently attended Grace Fellowship Church in Lenoir City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jencie Frye; brother, H.C. Frye and several other brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Elmer L. Pearson; children, Lewis Pearson and wife, Sue of Kodak, David Pearson of Farragut, Lynn Pearson of Memphis, Jessica Stubbs and husband, Jeff of Knoxville, Jennifer Pearson of Knoxville; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. SLIMP, MILDRED - age 71 passed away on Thursday night at her residence. She was born on February 1, 1930 and is the daughter of the late Roy and Florence(Ramsey) McCarty. Mildred is also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda McCarty Spicer. She was a member of the Sand Branch United Methodist Church for 47 years. Survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Orville Slimp; two daughters, Nancy Slimp Beard from Knoxville, Paula Slimp Diaz from Detroit, Mich.; one son, Randy Slimp from Knoxville; one sister, Mary McCarty Ross from Pittsburgh, Penn. five grandchildren, Jody, Tony, Ricky, Jeana, Deanna, and many nieces and nephews and friends of the family.
